About This Listing
Hello. We have a great clean, quiet room with a comfortable queen bed available in South Edmonton, Alberta. We are looking to rent to mature adults who are working or going to school and are interested in privacy within a family home (2 adults, 2 cats, 2 dogs). You will be the only paying guests so no hostel life situation to contend with!
Your bedroom has a comfortable queen sized bed, desk, clock, closet, heater and fan (if needed, though the house is kept at comfortable heat). A TV and DVD player can be made available and the desk has 2 drawers of movies. There are also some magazines. All linens are supplied for bed and bathroom but you will need to bring your own toiletries. There is a wireless network for free.
There is a lovely, 4 piece bath near the guest room which is shared with the hosts. The hosts also have a 2 piece ensuite. We are happy to work around your schedule as far as getting ready in the morning and have therefore not had any guests have conflicts over bathroom use.
There are grocery stores, pharmacy, dry cleaner, excellent mall and restaurants within a 2-3 block walk.
You can make light use of the kitchen. You will have space in the cupboards available for you. We provide dishes and pots and pans that are just for you. You can use the dishwasher also. You can cook, however as I am a vegetarian you can only BBQ meat/poultry/fish outside or have pre-cooked meats (deli slices, cooked chicken) in the fridge but not cook meat in the house. We would be happy to assist you with the BBQ. One of us is extremely allergic to STRAWBERRIES so we ask that you do not bring them into the house for our safety. : )
If you drive, you can park for free in front of the house.
We is a three block walk to the LRT train, a short train ride to the university and downtown. There is also a bus station at the same location.
Own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, yard.
Interaction with Guests
We like to host people, provide the space, and then leave you to yourself. If you need assistance we are happy to help and are very friendly. We like to keep to ourselves in the evenings so please be mindful of our privacy, just as we will be of yours.
Very simple rules:
Enjoy your stay. Please see the guidebook for suggestions on what to do, where to shop etc. In the evenings we like to keep to ourselves as much as possible so please be mindful of that. We reserve the living room for our exclusive use, though you can use the room, kitchen, eating area and front and back yard.
We are a family home not a party house. So...no drugs, alcohol only within moderation (1-2 drinks), smoking cigarettes is not desired but if you need to do so, please smoke only outside.
Lock the door when you leave.
Tidy up after yourself.
Do not let the cats or dogs out!
You may cook vegetarian food in the kitchen. Meat, poultry, fish must be cooked on the BBQ. Pre-packaged meat (e.g. whole chicken or deli slices are ok too).
Please clean the kitchen after you use it. : )
A TV and DVD player can be provided if desired. If you bring a laptop, there are videos in the desk drawer!
Kamaljit and Marnie are great hosts. They extended the warmest welcome I ever received. The room is exactly as shown in the picture. And, I must in particular point out that the bed was so comfortable that I got a great rest all nights when I was there. It worked so well with my neck and shoulder muscles which were able to full relaxed after my long travel from Asia and be able to resume my energy for daytime activities. The room and the bathroom which I care most are very clean. Overall, I highly recommend their room to anyone who come to Edmonton for different purposes.
Kamaljit and Marnie were good hosts. The place was quiet and comfortable and their pets were an added bonus to the stay. The bed was very comfortable too - unlike most hotels. I would definitely recommend staying with Kamaljit and Marnie.
Kamaljit and Marnie were extremely welcoming and I had such a pleasant stay with them! The directions to get to their place from the airport were really easy to follow and when I got there Kamaljit showed me around and told me everything I needed to know, including directions to get to the university campus. The room was great and the bed was comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom were really clean and everything I needed for my stay was provided. It was easy to get around Edmonton because their house is so close to the train and bus stations. They were very friendly and I enjoyed hanging out with their pets and having wonderful conversations with the hosts, but there was also plenty of privacy! I highly recommend this listing!
Their place was homey and inviting. It was a cozy and safe place to stay with great access to shopping and the university. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. I felt like part of the family during my stay.
Kamaljit and Marnie are very nice. The house is lovely and very close to the mall. A great place to stay in Edmonton.
Kamaljit and Marnie made me feel welcome by introducing me (first of all) to their pet dogs. One of the dogs stopped barking after I was introduced.
House rules were explained and location of everything were given.
The house location is in a very quite neighborhood exactly as advertised. It was easy to find since the directions were given clearly. It is walking distance to the train station and the mall (kind of 5 long blocks). They only host one guest at a time so it was nice to have the impeccably clean bathroom to yourself. Over-all, it was a nice, quiet stay exactly what I wanted.
About the Host, Kamaljit And Marnie
We are a married couple (2 women) who share a nice home with two wonderful cats and two friendly dogs (one tiny, one big). One of us is a pediatric nurse and she works shift work. The other woman is a grad student and so is frequently home, sometimes working on her thesis, usually quietly procrastinating.
We are interested to rent out the guest room in our home for two reasons: we are blessed to have more room in our home than we need which we want to offer to others, and secondly, the income assists with graduate school.
We are pretty quiet around the house. We watch some TV but guest tell us they cannot hear it. We keep the home pretty clean but it is lived in. The guest room and bathroom are always VERY clean. We tend to go to bed late and get up late but you will not wake us up if you are getting ready to go out.
We love folk music and attend the Edmonton Folk festival every year. We love to walk in nature with our energetic dogs. We are both avid readers. We like to make vegetarian food and to recycle and compost. We love to go to second hand stores to see what treasures we can find.
You can buy passes and tickets on site. You can plan your trip on the websi(website hidden)spx
This is a local store with a pretty good deli, bakery and fresh food. We like their vegetarian lasagna and their dips (spinach dip. roasted red pepper, pesto). Walking distance from the house.
The mall has all the essentials: Safeway-grocery, pharmacy, banks, dollar store, hairdresser, bookstore, Starbucks. etc. These is also a good food court if you are not in the mood to shop and cook.
We love the Chiropractor here (Dr. Joan Shaben) and it is walking distance from the house).
Nice, handmade local pizza. Yum! It is walking distance to the house or they deliver. They also have a gluten free pizza for those with gluten allergy or celiac disease.
Great salt water pool with hot tub and sauna.
Great Italian store with pasta, regular groceries and fantastic deli. There is a cafe attached with excellent coffee and pastries. I recommend the cheese danish, Marnie like the bread and the eclairs!
It is not the closest drug store but I think it is better then the one in the mall. There is also a walk in doctor clinic attached.
Marnie likes it because you can get a great beef burger there. I like the fries! There is a restaurant and a lounge area. It is a good place to watch sports.
This is a great charity shop with used furniture/housewares. If you are moving to Edmonton it is a great place to buy real furniture at Ikea prices while supporting a charity that houses the homeless.
Edmonton has and excellent library system. If you are a new comber to living here it is definitely worth getting a card.
Cheaper groceries then the store at the mall (Safeway), though you need a car to get there (or a cab). You can buy an inexpensive pay-as-you-go cell phone there.
If you need to rent a car, this is the place closest to our hous(website hidden)set
Good simple yoga studio within driving distance to the house. Could take a quick cab there too. I like the restorative and gentle yoga classes.
During the day...great coffee and homemade cinnamon buns. At night it is a great little pub with many beers on tap. Walking distance from the university and one bus from the house.
This is a fun local place that has a great mix of food: meat, veggie and gluten free. It is one bus from the house. Marnie loves the chicken salad sandwhich and the ice tea. I love the spinach pie!
Good Chinese food and they deliver. Reasonably priced.
If you take the train, we are a 8 min train ride (25 minutes door to door).
Cool retro theatre that plays interesting films and has good, cheap popcorn and cheaper ticket prices. To see what is playing go t(website hidden)ess&

Amazing art in an amazing building. We think it is reasonably priced. You can take the LRT there. The last Thurs. night of the month is free or by donation.
Many people who come to Edmonton go to this famous huge mall. You can golf, ice skate, see movies, ride the roller coaster and shop. We have a direct bus from out front of our street to the mall.
Great yoga studio. About a 15 minute walk from the house or 1 short bus ride away. I like the restorative yoga class. There is also hot yoga.
