The Space

I am offering my one bedroom apartment for your stay - kitchen, full bath, bedroom and living room.
The Upper West side is one of Manhattan's best neighborhoods (though I AM biased!), but if you are looking for some calm and respite from the buzz of the city, while remaining two stops from Time Square and four stops to Greenwich Village, this is the neighborhood for you.
My building is one block from the subway and one block in the other direction to Riverside Park and the Hudson River, where there is a bike lane that runs the entire west side of the island. I have a bike you may borrow and there is (email hidden) one block away. (I know, everything is a block away!) I am really blessed.

  • The good things - Great location! One block from 96th St subway (2 stops on the express to Times Sq) supermarket right there as well. Also good restaurants along Broadway close by.Great deli on Broadway & 95th St had the best NY cheesecake! Easy walk to Central Park.
Nice little apartment & Mr G, the cat, very entertaining!
The bad things - The bed is very hard & the sofa bed was worse. I do not recommend sleeping on them for 6 nights! The kitchen was not the cleanest. A little snooping on our part finally located the laundry & rubbish bins.
For tourists like us on our 1st visit to NY, there was no info or maps etc on what was around and how to get there.
Good tip! Go to the NY Public Library & buy a laminated map for $7.00. Has everything marked on it plus all the subways. The best $7 spent for the whole trip!)
Staying in an apartment as opposed to a hotel was a great experience.

  • Terrible experience! We were not expecting any luxury for 200 USD per day but we counted on a decent and clean place to stay in NY. Unfortunately this apartment was far away from tidy , even worst – it was totally dirty. Urine on a toilet sit, kitchen covered with a thick layer of grease mixed with dust, cat's fur all over the place, dirty floor. From the spots on the table you could see what has been eaten there for the last 2 weeks. Dreadful!
When we complained the host didn't even bother to come and clean this place (or to send someone who can clean it).
If this was not enough the owner never returned the whole deposit (only a half) and nothing was damaged in the house – we didn’t even get any explanation for our question what was wrong.
If anyone interested we took some pictures and made a short video.

    Response from Philomena:

I learned so much from this guest! Particularly that not everyone enters in the spirit of Airbnb in the same way :( Most of what is written above is not true. The dusty area in the kitchen she referred to was on TOP of the fridge (I never look up there!) - but I do now because of the kind (?!) observances of this person. As soon as she told me that the apt. did not meet her expectations, naturally I offered her a full refund - I actually didn't want her energy in my apt., but she chose to stay for the full period.

I have traveled and lived in several countries and know some of what it is like to arrive into a place and feel a little lost and confused and without your feet firmly on the ground. Which is why I live near Riverside Park so that I can go there and get myself planted onto the ground again after a day in the city. You might be the same. My apartment is also a place of quiet and tranquility for the most part. I like to practice yoga and meditate. I have a cat, who also likes to meditate ... I love all that the city has to offer and am a regular arts and culture taster. Lincoln Center, which I sometimes bike to, offers cinema, theater, dance, opera, music - all the high arts.
