The home of the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods offers people who seek tranquility and peacefulness the perfect spot to spend a long weekend or restful week or two. We are ideally situated for day trips to all the magical sights this part of California has to offer. Up here at the end of the road you will find luscious flora and fauna, a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere and you can experience the best of two worlds: the redwoods that literally grow in the back yard and the ocean that is only a short drive (or bike ride) away.
The Glass House at the Wellstone Center in the Redwoods is a private bedroom fronting the redwood groves at the rear end of the main house. The room offers a quiet and tranquil vantage on the yard and forest through window-filled walls (with curtains) on two sides and a separate entrance from the back porch. The room comes with a bathroom and shower, a soft queen bed and a warm and homely feeling. Great sleep is guaranteed!
We offer access to our fully equipped kitchen during the evening hours and there is also the possibility for BBQing outside. We recommend to all our guests that they - depending on their preferences - go to one of the great local restaurants close by or bring with them food that they can cook here.
From the back of the house you can take private trails through the redwoods. On our grounds you can entertain yourself with Bocce ball or just lounge by the pool or sit in the hot tub. We will try to make you feel comfortable and give you an experience that you will not want to have missed. The Wellstone Center in the Redwoods also provides free community courses, such as Sarah's popular German Cooking Course two Friday nights a month, and weekend workshops on topics like nature photography or a "Find Your Voice" writing workshop with a best-selling author. Our experience staying in the Glass House greatly exceeded our expectations, and we had such a fabulous time!!! My friend and I stayed for my birthday weekend and it was so special, unforgettable, and lovely... We were totally taken care of by the three wolfers who live and work at the property. Very sweet and good people! Sarah and Steve were out of town, but were very responsive and kind in their communications. The hot-tub and pool were a delight even on this rainy weekend, as was the hiking trail, Sally the dog, who led the way, the other farm animals, and the fresh orange trees. We only got a little lost toward the end of the hike, but we found our way back pretty easy. The area is peaceful and beautiful with redwoods, and a view of the ocean. The Wellstone center is a great place for a retreat. There are multiple airbnb options here, which I didn't realize when booking, but the Glass House was perfect for us. It turns out one wall of the glass house is connected to the main house and has a door leading into it, while the other three walls are huge glass windows. This was a good thing though because we had better access to the amazing kitchen and all. We were shown the "Zen room" where no one was staying this weekend, and it is was luxurious, if you are looking for a bigger space with a bath-tub. There are also other quarters to choose from on the property as well; stand alone places.
Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for a place to relax. I can't say enough good things! So lovely and a great experience!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Glass House at the Wellness Center. The people that were hired to help the owners were very welcoming and warm and we had a blast chatting with them. Sarah and her partner graciously set us up in the Glass House when the heating didn't work in the Library Room, and it was a pleasure meeting them. The home has gorgeous views, a great kitchen, friendly dog, various farm animals (the goats are pregnant so will be having baby goats by May they estimate), and of course the hot tub (it takes about an hour to heat up so let them know ahead of time when you want to use it). It rained while we were there and it was so serene to watch the rain fall from the front room. We decided not to hike because of the rain, and will just have to do it next time! We will definitely be back and encourage anyone looking for a place to renew to check this place out
The place is a very comfortable, clean and well maintained cabin/room with a bathroom and shower attached to the main house, accessible through a door to the yard or a door connected to the house. Though we used both doors, the latter was very useful, because it let us access the kitchen without having to go around to the front door. In addition to comfortable amenities, like a big bed with lots of pillows, the room came with a faux fireplace - romantic artificial fire that kept the place warm and toasty at night. The place has a number of rooms for rent on AirBnB - which created a respectful kind of community living feel. Others who worked there, or were living on the property were very friendly, and - when we got there, gave us a tour of the place, and showed us around. Sarah and Steve were terrific hosts - very friendly and helpful, but also mindful to give us time to ourselves. To welcome us to the room, they left kiwi fruits and water with orange slices on our table. As long as it wasn't past quiet hours (10PM), they made themselves available to turn on the hot tub (which takes an hour to heat up). The place is in a terrific location, with an amazing sunset view of the ocean, access to a forest hiking trail, and is maybe 10-15 minutes from downtown Santa Cruz. Sally (their dog) was particularly friendly too. When we have the time, we definitely would like to come back - and would recommend the place to others who wish for a quiet, semi-secluded experience but want to still be able to drive back to civilization - for dinner, etc. BTW: The place is very near Café Cruz, a restaurant definitely recommended as a comfortable family style dining experience with locals.
My wife and I enjoyed this cozy room while on a weekend trip to the Santa Cruz area. We didn’t spend a huge amount of time at the house due to a packed hiking schedule through the area’s magnificent parks, but we easily could have given how beautiful and charming both the house and the surrounding property were. We also enjoyed hiking the trail behind the house, watching shooting stars in the dark night sky, and, of course, their adorable, super-friendly dog, Sally! Thanks for hosting us!
The Glass House was beautiful- even better than the photos made it seem. The room was private, quiet, extremely clean and welcoming- they even left us warm cookies straight out of the oven and the fireplace burning upon our arrival. We did a beautiful hike around the property with their trusty dog Sally, and watched shooting stars from the jacuzzi. Set back in the forest, Glass House was a little retreat, yet only about 15 minutes by car to Santa Cruz. Perfect!
I don't even know where to begin describing this hidden gem in the middle of the redwoods.
Me, my boyfriend and small dog had the best time relaxing at the Wellstone Center - the house is simply amazing. We were greeted warmly by Sarah, Steve and their dog Sally who made us feel welcome right from the beginning.
The glasshouse is attached to the main house, but has separate entrance and bathroom, so it's actually really convenient since you have easy access to game room, living room, dining room and kitchen whenever you need.
Everything was spotless, and felt like a top hotel rather than an affordable AirBnB stay. There is a hot tub for 6-8 people, a large pool, a private trail into the Redwoods and the most fantastic view over the ocean.
Our small dog was not just welcomed, but had a great time playing with the resident dog and pets of other visitors. She had the best vacation ever!
The hosts are making sure you have everything you need, and are available for chatting, but they will also leave you alone if you like privacy. It was very silent during the day and night, we hardly heard them or the other guests, and slept like babies in our huge comfortable bed.
We would come back in an instant - it's the perfect place for a romantic getaway, serene meditation place, and will give artists great inspiration (the natural light in the glass house will help).
We can't thank our lovely hosts enough for this remarkable opportunity and stress-busting stay that makes you forget the day-to-day reality. THANK YOU!
Very secluded romantic spot. Great for couples get away. We truly enjoyed the hike and the hot top. Thank you for sharing your place.
We had a lovely relaxing time at Steve and Sarah's glass house room at their Wellness Centre in the Santa Cruz forest. We especially enjoyed the hot tub, views and the hike on the private trail with Sally their friendly dog. The room was cozy and comfortable and sufficient for our needs We would definitely stay again if we are back this way in the future. A big thanks to you both for your hospitality. John and Jan
Beautiful location, nice room, relaxing, country setting, yet only 10 minutes away from everything else. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and gave us plenty of space/privacy as well. We hiked this 3 mile trail that's adjacent to the property and it was wonderful.
