Interaction with Guests

We are a working family - with our young adult "kids" sharing the home but separate from the Aspen Suite. We all do our best to offer you a quiet and private experience. Some guests enjoy sharing a meal or conversation with us, sometimes our schedules do not allow for that. We always want you to feel at home, free to share common areas, and an honored guest. Just let us know if there are any needs or requests that we can accommodate.

The Neighborhood

The rural environment makes it possible for you to take a stroll past pastures and farm animals. Our neighborhood is composed of those who live here, and not a through street, so it remains quiet, secure, and peaceful. Quick access to the Highway and a 15 min ride to Durango gives access to restaurants, shopping, and attractions. Since Durango, though a small city, gets very, very busy - it is nice to be just outside of the hustle and bustle.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Gail and Tom. They were so accommodating and kind--from having extra ice available for our coolers and allowing us some room in the fridge for our things, to searching the internet for us to find gluten-free restaurants and allowing us a little flexibility on check-out time. We also appreciated how easy it was to communicate with Gail before and during (and even after!) our stay.

The Aspen Room and adjoining bathroom were great--clean, comfortable, and beautifully done. We also loved hanging out on the deck--lovely views and clean, crisp air. Our 18-month-old daughter was delighted by the whole thing. Durango was to be just an overnight stopping place on our journey, but we decided to stay two nights to be able to explore and experience the area, and we are so glad we did--and that we chose to stay with Gail and Tom!

  • We had the best time with Gail and Tom. The room was as pictured only more homey and comfortable in real life. We both loved the bathroom. Perfect for both of us (mother and daughter). The shower was great, just what we needed. Gail made us a "red carpet" welcome and had information on the area, coupons for meals and was a wealth of information. Besides being a comfortable place to sleep and a base for explorations around Durango, Tom and Gail are fun people to get to know. We felt like we were visiting old friends; welcoming and engaging hosts. Don't be put off by the first glimpse, this place is wonderful. Breakfast included our names at our places and an array of healthy and good food. I will be writing Gail for her yogurt and granola bar (email hidden) was the best. Fresh fruit, home grown cut flowers and special care everywhere to make you comfortable. Exceptional value.

  • Gail and Tom were very warm, hospitable and welcoming. This was my first Airbnb experience and it could not have went any better. Their home is clean, orderly, and comfortable. The bed was cushy, the flowers on the vanity were thoughtful, and breakfast was just right. Most of all, they made me feel welcome. I stayed 2 nights at the beginning of my trip and then again at the end of my trip. It was like going home! There are lots of hotels in Durango that cost 4 times as much, but they would not have even come close to the 2nd Wind. Thank you Gail and Tom! Hope to come back again someday!

The Aspen room is very clean and Gail is attentive to every detail. We wish we were able to stay longer, and definitely would stay there again. Gail and Tom have a beautiful home, and it's still pretty close to Durango.

  • Gail and Tom's BB was very nice, clean and beautiful. It is located south of Durango but not too far, actually nice "in the country" feel. They were very accommodating with providing a cot and pad which was very comfortable. The rate was the best around. Very friendly family! Thanks!

  • Gail and Tom were both so welcoming to myself and wife, Joan. As soon as we arrived we both felt completely comfortable in our surroundings. The facilities of 2nd Wind completely exceeded our expectations. After a couple of weeks on the road the peaceful surroundings of Gail and Tom's home were just what we needed as the perfect base to explore the surrounding area particularly Durango. We would both highly recommend 2nd Wind and thank Gail and Tom and all the family for making us so welcome.

  • Gail and Tom are consummate hosts. Their guest space is top notch, beautiful finishes everywhere and lovely furniture and bedding. In the morning, a lovely array of breakfast choices was laid out for us. They were especially sweet to my little girl, who came away with a fabulous impression of the Airbnb experience.

  • Gail and Tom have a true gift for hospitality. My mother and I had a wonderful stay at their place in Durango. Incredibly comfortable bed, lovely shower and many personal details. It was nice and quiet too! I would recommend this spot to everyone! We booked the same day and Gail went out of her way to accommodate us last minute - we were very impressed!

Tom/ Self Employed : McDermott Construction" Gail/ Cross Utilized Agent for SkyWest/United Express
Tom is a craftsman who can build or fix anything! His warm personality and smile is his trademark, and his Irish roots are part of his love for sharing stories, ideas, and conversation. Tom is great at noticing your need and offering his assistance. He loves to ride "the orange carrot" his road bicycle, and explore the natural scenic beauty of the area. Gail has been everything from a cook, to a singer, to her current work for United Airlines at Durango-La Plata Airport. She is also a very "hands on" type of person-with landscaping, homeschooling, and massage therapy, in her background. Originally from the Hudson River Valley of New York State, Tom and Gail re-located to Colorado in 2006 to experience the amazing southwest culture. At the time, we were thinking that our new home would be a bridge for friends from the east to come to visit and experience Colorado...Airbnb gives us the opportunity of sharing this environment that we now call home with folks from all over the world as well! We appreciate the spirit of the Southwest, the scenic beauty, and laid back Western style of Durango, and you will too!
