101 things (well a few anyway) you really should do while in Kas
A Hammam Turkish bath, followed by a full body massage at at various Hammans in Kas town
There are many good Turkish restaurants in Kas, too many to mention – Mercan’s on the harbour front is very good (choose your lobster from the indoor pool).
Day boat trip to KEKOVA sunken city, with swim stops, lunch on the boat (A great day out for about £10-20 per head depending on numbers).
Buy your tickets in the Harbour or if you have a car, drive to Kekova.
Friday is market day (Pazar). Situated near the new harbour. An enjoyable experience for all your senses, clothes, fruit and veg, spices and tasty fast food Turkish style – try the spinach and cheese flat bread.
Myra and St. Nicholas Church. Where the legend of Father Christmas (Noel Baba) really started. Easy to get to. Take a minibus from the bus station (Otogar) to DEMRE (Myra) then it’s a short walk to the church. The ruins of the city of Myra are then a 20min walk or a 5min dolmus (bus) ride away.
Patara Beach. Well worth a visit but is much easier if you have a car.
14 kilometres of sand, and shallow waters. Ideal for children. (Voted 2nd loveliest beach in the world 1998).
Other Beaches worth a visit
Locally, Küçük Çakıl (little pebble) or Buyuk Cakil (big pebble) From the Peninsula, go to Kas harbour and follow the road around and up a small hill. You will then come to Kucuk Cakil. Continue on this road, past the hotels, for about 20 mins and you will come to Büyük Çakıl.
Halk Plaj, next to the dolphin park on the way into Kas town.
Kaputas (on the road to Kalkan) A sandy beach which can be easily reached by Dolmus from the Otogar.
Limanağzı. Get the water taxi from the harbour, or if you’re feeling energetic it’s a 90 minute walk along part of the Lycian Way with easy to follow signs (red & white painted strips) The walk starts from Buyuk Cakil beach.
Another local section of the Lycian Way (one of the top ten walks in the world) is to visit the ancient city of Phellos at the top of the hills above Kas. Take the dolmus to Cukurbag and follow the red and white markers. Its an hour climb but the views are spectacular
Saklikent Gorge is a cool place on hot day. Enjoy a trip down the river in an inner tube raft! You’ll need a car, or go with an organised tour from town. On your way back stop off at the ruined city of Xanthos. A good example of Lycian, Roman and Byzantian buildings.
A half-hourly (in the high season) Dolmus service goes anti clockwise around the Peninsula (Yarimada).
This leaves from the roundabout closest to the Mosque in the harbour 8am to 12.30 am.
Going in to Kas town from the apartments, the dolmus goes past the top of the street at approximately 15 minutes after leaving the harbour.
The cost is 2.00 TL (approx. 85p)
There are no official stops, the dolmus picks you up and drops you off any where you like.
If you miss the last bus home the taxi rank just up from Smiley’s, operates 24hrs a day (though you may have to wake them up at 3’o clock in the morning)! The price is about 13 TL (approx. £5.50) day or night.
From the Otogar (bus station) buses go every where in Turkey. Because of government subsidies, it is a very inexpensive way to travel, and they are always on time !!
Garden with hammocks.

Beautiful apartment, in an incredible location. The balcony has absolutely superb views, and the apartment is spacious and well furnished. The apartment is located on the peninsula, about a ten minute drive from Kas, and in our opinion this was a great thing - you get the advantages of Kas but also the quiet, tranquility of the peninsula with it's superb views of both the Greek island of Meis, as well as the wider coastline. Additionally, the location is a two minute walk from one of the best restaurants in Kas (Manzara Restaurant) located at the nearby Hotel Cachet. The apartment has a shared pool which is quite deep and spacious, and is well maintained by the friendly housekeeper. A clean and spacious apartment in an idyllic location at a reasonable price - you couldn't ask for much more.
Thanks so much for your review Ankur; we are very glad that you liked the apt and its position. Also its very helpful for you to reccomend a restaurant close by,we will try it next time. We look forward to having you as a guest again in the future. We will look at the windows when we are out next week and see if we can improve them. The back door is quite new but there is a knack to closing it.
We were met at the apartment by the local agent, who was very friendly and gave us good advice about what to do in the area, although I didn't agree with one of his restaurant recommendations. We didn't have any problems so didn't need to contact him until the day we left, but he came across as very helpful and had excellent English.
The area is really nice and the views from the balcony quite stunning. The Garden/pool area is great, with the hammocks in the palm trees just the thing for the hot midday sun. The apartment complex was not busy when we visited, just a couple of other places had guests, so the pool wasn't crowded, we had it to ourselves mostly.
We traveled in August which is incredibly hot in Turkey. I'm not sure I'd do it again. The villa was quite cool and has very useful shutters on the window to reflect the sun/heat. However in the full heat of the day we had to have the aircon on, and a separate aircon for the living room would have been good here (there is a large one upstairs which cools both bedrooms), but maybe it is fine in May, June, September, etc.
The stone steps down to the garden/pool aren't very kid friendly if you have little ones, but this is an excellent apartment for a couple/friends or if you have older kids. The main room downstairs is very comfortable and stylish, the small kitchen has everything you need and a massive fridge for storing frosty cold beers and cocktail supplies.
The peninsula area is a really good place to stay, very peaceful. Best to have a car, although the minbus service seemed to run ok. There is a tiny beach just as you come off the peninsula which we found to be excellent, really calm and easy to swim off, and quiet early in the morning (before 9am). Avoid Smiley's restaurant in the town, this was recommended, but we were disappointed, very average food and quite expensive.
Would stay again, definitely. Kas has lots of things to do in the surrounding area, and the villa is a great base to stay and a nice relaxing holiday in its own right.
Thanks Joe for your very helpful review. I will mention your views about Smileys restaurant to Cunyet (the manager) Glad you liked the apt and yes August is very hot but its the first time we have been asked about air con for downstairs as usually the large air con unit cools the whole apt if windows are shut etc. However it sounds like it was super hot !! Thanks for being such lovely guests and we would welcome you any time again. All the best Sandy
We had a very comfortable and peacefull holiday. The house is suitable for 5 persons. Only the aircondition works very loudly. If this will change, everything will be perfect. Thank you for everything.
Mesmerizing views from this pretty apartment! Watch birds free-wheel over Kas harbour and boats traversing the stunning blue waters from the sun-filled balcony. Plenty of room for two plus a toddler. That said, the stairs to the apartment and inside it aren't very toddler-friendly (very steep) or easy for those with difficulty with mobility, but we were warned beforehand so we took our chances. Other than that, a lovely stay in a prettily furnished apartment - with a well equipped kitchen and an ipod dock for holiday tunes.
Pack mosquito repellent - they are particularly ravenous along the peninsula.
We had the opportunity to spend 5 days in Sandy's beautiful Kas apartment. It was the perfect place to spend our holiday, an incredible view together with Sandy's great hospitality transformed that apartment to a 5-day-home to us. 5 minute drive away from the center, with a beautiful view of Meis, a pool with hammocks and palm trees and for a very reasonable price, we were more than satisfied. Thanks for everything. If we ever go to Kas again, we will definitely try to book this house. You should not hesitate about renting this apartment.
we had a really nice time in sandy's appartment, is was as specious as the images, very clean and well maintained, the location is good, with a great view over the sea (which is easy to reach by a small path for a dive from the rocks), it is quiet with hammocks under the palmtree near the swimmingpool, it takes hardly 10 minutes by bus to get the village, both the managing agent and the housekeeper were very friendly, helpfull and flexible,
this appartment is defenitly worth the price
We've stayed in Sandy's apartment for 5 nights and it was lovely. The apartment has a beautiful view and is nicely decorated. The pool is great (important for the kids!). Kitchen is fine and the caretaker is very helpful (he brings bread and water etc.). The apartment is not too small for 5 people but you don't have to mind about sleeping in the livingroom - there are only 4 beds upstairs. The dolmus to town is oke but we had to wait for quite a bit - having your own car would be best if you want to stay here. All in all: we had a great time and would definitely reccomend this apartment to others.
