Large 6000 square foot living space in restored barn. If you like open, airy loft living, this is your property in the country. 2 large master bedrooms, one with Jacuzzi, 1 smaller bedroom and 3 unique bedroom/baths each located in a converted silo. Large kitchen with professional appliances, dining area, fireplace area, living room. 600 square foot deck overlooks a 24 acre private lake. Gunite pool. The property has many trails for hiking, and there is the opportunity (under a separate arrangement) to participate in a working cattle ranch featuring grass fed beef.
Located 5 miles from the Town of Litchfield, the property is in a very private area and is in the midst of a 700 acre grassfed beef farm ((website hidden)). Surrounding the farm are 2000 protected acres of the Waterbury Water Company. Litchfield is a short drive away and features numerous bars and restaurants, museums, nature preserves, antique shops and general sight seeing opportunities.
The Barn is about 2 hours drive from both New York and Boston. The city of Waterbury, CT is about a 15 minute drive away, and from there you can take a train or bus to New York City.
There are no other properties of this size in the Town of Litcjfield and few others this size in the state of Connecticut. The farm it is in is one of the largest cattle ranches in Connecticut. A working farm experience is available at an additional cost, depending on group size and how involved you want it to be.
The short truth about his property:
The setting of this barn is amazing. Photos cannot so the view justice.
The barn itself, however, including bathrooms, main room, and deck could have used some TLC - the barns interior is not as nice as the photos depict. Rooms not depicted are sub-par. Not here is a group bathroom in the silo that is just gross (worse than a camp bathroom). Water temperature at the barn was not regulated (showers were freezing or scalding). Also note, the neighbor lives about 300 yards away and was annoying and bothersome. He came over and disturbed our enjoyment of the property.
The owner was not responsive to our issues - did not even apologize.
(i.e. Owner, without apology, had the yard mowed at 6:30 - 7:00 am on Saturday morning - woke everyone of the guests.) Owner did not address the water temp issues - still charged us full price ... Despite the fact that we could not shower. He did not even care that a guest was hurt by a hazard on his property - in fact, the owner had harsh words for us renters when informed someone fell.
In short, I'm glad we tried it out ... But we will NOT be going back due to the condition of the house, the angry neighbor, and the less than friendly owner/renter.
we really enjoyed our stay at the barn in litchfield! the space is true to the photos posted. it was a perfect escape for a big group of us for a 30th birthday party. the barn is incredibly spacious. we spent a ton of time on the deck and by the pool. the living area and dining area is huge and great for big groups. the house is on a huge field with beautiful private lake. would definitely come back! the check-in and check-out process was very smooth.
The restored barn was even better than it looks in the pictures! We had a magical weekend there. It's incredibly spacious and perfect for hosting a group. John was a wonderful host and everything was incredibly well organized from the check out check list to the information about the surrounding area. Litchfield is an adorable town. Plus, there is so much space to walk around and enjoy the natural beauty right on the property we barely even needed to leave. We also loved standing out on the deck and looking at the gorgeous view of the pond, the cattle, and the incredibly sky. I would highly recommend a stay here!
The Barn was the perfect spot for our mid-winter knitting retreat. We curled up on the couches with our projects and settled in for 3 days of watching the Olympics on the TV. The Barn had all the channels we needed, the wifi was strong, and it made for a delightful weekend. Connecticut had received over a foot of snow the day before, but the driveway had been cleared, and the garage was accessible for indoor parking.
The industrial stove was put to good use as well. 10 burners! Such a luxury.
John was very responsive and helpful! The farmhouse is beautiful and is much bigger than the pictures show - it was a great fit for our group of 12 people. Highly recommend it!
The barn house was perfect for our group. We had a blast. There is tons of room throughout the property. The photos don't really capture how large the living room is. I would recommend this place for groups. Also, make sure to buy some grass-fed meat from John.
My family and I made great memories this past week-end at our stay at the red barn for my husband's 70th birthday celebration. The barn has an expansive living area, complete with cozy fireplace and picture windows overlooking a nearby lake. Sunsets were magnificent! Bedrooms are tucked away on the second floor, and inside the two silos. The 10-burner Vulcan stove in the kitchen makes it easy for 5 people to cook at once. Our host was very gracious and accommodating. There are hiking trails nearby, and close to White Memorial, worth a visit. We highly recommend a stay at this beautiful spot.
Great space! Beautiful views! Super neat house. Our family had multiple rooms to choose from and so much to explore. John was very responsive and on top of everything. An easy flow for our wedding weekend in and around Litchfield County. Thank you :)
We stayed at the barn for a work retreat and it was great! The main living area is MUCH larger than the pictures indicate - plenty of space for 11 people to do big-group work and break into smaller groups without crowding. The wifi was fine and there's good wall space for hanging up giant post-its.
The kitchen is well-stocked - nothing elaborate, but a good number of pots, roasting pans, etc. The bedrooms aren't fancy but there are lots of bathrooms and it was a great setup for our group.
The area is gorgeous; in early October there was lots of fall foliage and warm days. There were a ton of birds on the water and flitting around the house. We really appreciated having a beautiful pond view and nice walks right off the back porch to punctuate our work discussions.
This was also a great central location for people coming together from Boston and NYC. We'll be back!
We had our small family wedding here and it was PERFECT! The barn is much bigger than it seems from the pictures and is every bit as gorgeous as the pictures. The surrounding land is beautiful as well, with wildflowers, a picturesque windmill, and pond to hike around. John and his wife were both very nice. We visited the farmers' market and bought some delicious meat from John to grill. The kitchen was well equipped, the rooms were comfortable, and we and our guests were amazed by the number of bathrooms. The space is great for events, as long as you're careful with the water. We had an amazing weekend here and hope to come back again sometime.
