Located in the center of historic Hilo Town, HILO BAY HALE (house) is a perfect "base camp" for your Big Island Experience! This restored 1914 plantation home features 3 guest rooms with private baths and a great breakfast is served everyday.
Relax and enjoy watching the cruise ships and Hawaiian paddlers pass in and out of the Hilo Harbor from the huge wrap around front lanai (porch) on this classic 1912 plantation home that has survived tsunamis and earthquakes. In 2007, the house was purchased by your hosts, Danny Miller and Dawn Roberts and saved from demoltion. Danny and Dawn had a vision of creating an “Oasis” in the city where visitors to Hilo could rest during their adventures to the islands. Today, visitors from around the world, including research scientists, and archeaologists enjoy the relaxing sounds of the water gardens that surround the house.
Restoration of the house was completed in December of 2008 and offers a glimpse back into Hilo’s exciting history. Architectural features, including ten foot ceilings and original hardwood floors have been restored and complimented with unique bamboo trim, wall treatments and ceilings.
When you stay at the Hilo Bay Hale, we want you to feel at home and relax in the common areas that guests share including the wrap around deck, lobby, kitchen and outdoor dinning area. The wrap around deck offers views of the Bay and Hilo and is a great place to unwind and meet other guests. When you enter the home there is a lobby with a desk, seating area and a collection of books and information on local attractions. Down the hall from the lobby is the kitchen and outdoor dining area where Breakfast is served buffet style from 8-9am each day. You can use the kitchen anytime to prepare and enjoy other meals, snacks, cocktails, tea, coffee etc. and you are welcome to store items in the refrigerator. Below the kitchen is the laundry room that guests can use during the day.

We had a great time at Hilo Bay Hale B&B.
It is a lovely place with a wonderful porch and a private balcony in a quite but very central location. We were warmly welcomed and the room was charming and meticulously clean.
We also enjoyed a great home-made breakfast.
Thank you Danny and Team for a great stay.
Very welcoming. Beautiful b&b. Conveniently located. Matthew, Carolina and Danny are great hosts. Great for families with children.
The home was beautiful, decorated with typical Hawaiian furnishings, but with many other exceptional touches. The hosts were gracious and provided a breakfast with variety and gourmet touches. They also gave many good tips for visiting the area.
HIlo Bay Hale B&B made for the perfect Hilo visit. The house is lovingly restored and feels like Old Hawaii. It is clean, and had everything we needed. The location is ideal. Oh and did I mention the breakfasts? Yummy and fresh and prepared with love. Matthew and Danny were wonderful hosts.
I really enjoyed my time at Hilo Bay BB. The breakfasts were great. The place and room were a good representation of A Hawaiian house circa 1920. It was wonderful talking with the hosts about life in Hilo and the big island. I especially liked the recommendation for some great local coffee for a reasonable price. I have already recommended the place to a friend.
We stayed for two nights at this wonderful place in Hilo. The house is really nice and the room had everything we needed. The house is charming and tastefully decorated. It was nice to be able to walk downtown. The breakfast was fantastic and Danny and Matthew took very good care of us. We even liked the coqui frogs - they give a special atmosphere!
