The apartment was wonderful for my visit. The bed was super comfortable and had clean, crisp sheets, which I love. The man who met me was kind and gentle and I felt very welcome. As a woman traveling alone on this trip, I also felt very, very safe in this space. I was there for a Papal visit, and for anyone going to Rome for this purpose, this is the best place to stay...only five minutes walk and I was there...and back quickly afterwards to use the restroom! Thank you Monica!
This is a great place to stay in Rome. You couldn't get any closer to the Vatican, super convenient. It is very close to a super market as well so you can have some dinners in and relax. Great neighborhood and lots of shopping nearby as well. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Although it was a little difficult to get in touch with Monica when we arrived, once we did, the studio was lovely! Everything was clean and tidy, the host left us coffee and breakfast for the first day which was a nice surprise. We didn't spend a lot of time in the flat, we came to see Rome, but the location was great, really close to a subway station and right next to the Vatican City. We would recommend Monica to anybody visiting Rome.
Stayed March 2014. The place had so much character, just like the picture, except a little bit darker. Location was great too! Within walking distance to the Vatican, yet still in a quiet neighbourhood.
For check in, we rang the door bell as instructed, but no one was home. We waited for about 15 minutes until a friendly elderly man came home and unlocked the apartment for us. One thing that freaked out my husband a little bit is that other than the usual locks for the apartment, they also had a padlock for the door. Husband was worried that people can easily lock us inside the apartment with a padlock. It didn't happen, obviously.
While sleeping, I felt a breeze and was a little cold, that was when we found out that there was a hole right behind the bed. Now THIS freaked me out. hahah Next morning we found out that it was just a little craw space for storage.
For people that plan on cooking, it gets really hot in the kitchen. You have to light the gas stove with a match, which takes a little getting used to.
Over all, we still enjoyed our stay. Really loved the look and style of the apartment. My husband basically glued himself to the desk right in front of the window because he loved that as a working space!
Fantastic apartment, absolutely perfect location. Exactly as described, and even better than the photos. Arrived directly from the airport and it immediately felt like home. Friendly and helpful neighbour arranged for keys and offered excellent advice on neighbourhood amenities. Wonderful visit!
I have been in the appartment for almost four weeks and this long stay did meet my expecations based on the pictures. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Practical problems were picked up quickly by the owners. The appartment is close to metrostation Ottaviano, but all important spots are on walking distance (most of them at 20 minutes).
We were lucky to even get in to the apt. Monica without telling us even though we were emailing the day before that she was not around and nor was any one else. It was not that easy to get there from the metro, the main doors were locked and it was raining, we stood outside as we didnt know there was not going to be anyone there, luckily a neighbour came by and let us in, we dont know but we believe that Monicas parents live in the next apt they let us in with a key but didnt speak much English had no idea what to show or tell us, no local information no map.
We would never stay here agauin, the area was great and close to the metro and Vatican City but there would always be a risk with the absent host. She never communicated with us she would not show or while we were there any reason why.The bed is on a mezzazine level, the sprial stair case means you need to have been born in a submarine or the Arc de Trunp to get up and down it and the bed is a large single its really small, there is also no clothes dryer so over all not ideal
Dear Mr Niven, when we read your comment the first reaction we had was sorrow. Renting this apartment is not a real business for us: we do it because we like to meet people and share experience, therefore we have always done our best to be as welcoming and as helpful as possible towards our guests and to accommodate their needs. All the comments below show that our guests are usually happy with our hospitality and we are truly sorry that you had such a bad experience. That said, however, we feel that we also have to point out a few things: first of all, your reservation was from Jan 3 (check-in) to Jan 6 (check-out); on Jan 3 we messaged you asking you at what time you’d arrive to the apartment, but you didn’t answer, didn’t show up at all on that day and instead wrote to us only on the 4th, very few minutes before arriving, saying only that you were on the metro. That’s why we thought you were no longer coming and were not waiting for you on the 4th. In addition, you never said that there would be 2 guests. Instead, you paid Airbnb only for 1 guest while you showed up with another person. We asked you to pay for the difference (75 euro for the 3 days) but you said you didn’t have cash and you’d pay us the day after. You see, our philosophy is to trust the guests (especially from Airbnb) and we trusted you: as you have seen, we live on the same floor as the apartment and we were convinced that on the day after you’d come and pay for the day when you didn’t show up and for the second person. When we understood that you were not leaving on the 6th we rang at the door and wrote you a note. Instead, you managed to avoid any contact with us and sneaked out on Jan 7th without saying goodbye and, of course, without paying anything. And now you are even complaining about our hospitality and about the features of the house: we don’t think we have to point out that the spiral staircase and the bed you complain about are clearly shown in the pictures, and we never said or wrote that there is a clothes’ dryer. Of course, had you complained with us about the staircase or the bed, we would have helped you find another accommodation and we would have paid for it, but you only told us that you liked the apartment very much. To make it worse, your comment says that we gave you neither information nor local map, while we walked you around for 1 hour to show you the restaurants and the whole area. We are sure that you’ll understand our strong disappointment for your behavior and your tremendously ungrateful comment and we are confident that you’ll send us at least some apologies.
This apartment is in a great location, in a beautiful building. I was greeted by the owner with a smile even though I was late. The stairs up to the bed are a bit tricky, however the charm of the place makes up for this. It is a very pretty, comfortable space, and quite easy to find from the Metro.
The flat is smaller than it looks in the photos, but was Gorgeous and cozy and was the perfect Rome Pied-a-Terre. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman/next-door neighbour who gave us enthusiastic recommendations for museums, and Monica so kindly lent us another blanket since we were two guests. I can also vouch for the couch's sleepability should there be two guests who don't want to share the bed. Internet was a bit slow, but I recommend giving the computer a miss and just walking out the front door. Rome is a treasure. Thanks so much, Monica.
