Villa Alam Bidadari (The Angel’s Abode)
This new villa was completed in 2012, and combines the best of traditional Balinese open living with a comfortable, modern environment. Located on the edge of a still-traditional village on the outskirts of Ubud, the villa is surrounded by trees, rice fields and a seedling nursery, and the village temple is just down the road. Here you can enjoy Bali’s still-vibrant rural life, while central Ubud with its restaurants and other attractions is just a 5 minute drive away.
• Two stories, with a pleasant view and a private garden. Top quality construction.
• One very large bedroom (king bed, 200x200) and attached full bath upstairs – separate bath tub and shower with hot water. Wrap around windows and high ceilings make it a light and airy hideaway.
• Second bedroom (with queen bed (180x200) and attached bath downstairs, including shower with hot water.
• Air conditioning in the downstairs bedroom, and a ceiling fan upstairs.
• Both bedrooms have lockable doors.
• Large open living and dining area downstairs overlooking the garden.
• Fully equipped kitchen with new gas cook top and refrigerator/freezer.
• There is a small lotus pond and temple in the garden where our family makes daily offerings.
The house is suitable for one or two couples, or a small family. The price includes daily housekeeping service and all utilities, including bottled water. There is a laundry nearby and we can help organize that service for you. There is a good grocery store on the near outskirts of Ubud with a wide variety of international products – including meats and dairy products – and there is a weekly organic farmer’s market in the next village just up the road (Tuesdays, year round). Many restaurants in the Ubud area will deliver to the villa.
Our family compound is directly behind the villa, and we are happy to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Since I work in tourism, I can assist in arranging airport pick up or drop off, rental of a car or motorbike, or suggest day trips you might enjoy. The neighborhood is welcoming – and very safe. We have a small dog in our compound, but he does not wander into the guest villa property.
A five minute ride away in central Ubud, you will find many excellent restaurants, world-class spas and yoga studios. The villa is located in the village of Katiklantang, just south of Penestanan and on the southwest side of Ubud. Our village consists of mainly Balinese families (and a few resident visitors) – nearly everyone farms and keeps a cow or some ducks, there’s a painter or carver in most families, kids fly kites in the rice fields, and women are busy preparing offerings for our many traditional ceremonies. You are always welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the local shop and join the chat about the day’s activities.
The place is situated about a 25 minutes or so walk from the Monkey Forest and the main sites in Ubud. It is in the middle of a village overlooking rice fields. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a welcome drink from Dewa and his daughter.
The place is very clean and had everything that we needed. The upstairs does not have air conditioning though there are windows all around and was very comfortable with all the fans on. The downstairs had air conditioning and it was pleasant to stay in there. It had an outdoor kitchen with everything that we needed to cook our own food even included a microwave. Unlimited drinking water was provided for us at no charge.
The place is very clean. They cleaned it daily.
We also went on a tour with him for eight or nine hours. He is a very careful and safe driver.
We have a 16 month old daughter. Dewa and his family welcomed her and were very accommodating. His daughter played with our daughter for 3 or 4 hours one day. He also provided us with a jackfruit one morning which was nice.
Dewa really took care of us during our stay providing us with umbrellas, a carseat, and sorongs when needed. He did everything he could to make us happy during our stay.
The place is a little far from Central Ubud. Dewa will pick you up and drive you there for 50,000 rupiah per way.
Dewa is dedicated to providing you with the best service and experience possible. From the moment that I contacted Dewa with an enquiry and then the booking, he answered all emails quickly. He was even patient with me confirming my booking several times as it was the first time I had been to Bali and was a little nervous. However within about 5 minutes of meeting him. I knew that I had made the right choice.
His beautiful large villa holds many unique features, that you don’t find elsewhere in Bali. A fully equipped kitchen, both bedrooms are huge with a King/Queen beds in both ( downstairs bedroom is air-conditioned ) with a lot more room around the beds than any other place that I stayed at. I really loved the open verandas complete with day bed and 2 sets of tables and chairs. There are 2 bathrooms, which were always clean and tidy. The upstairs bathtub was just divine and worth taking a bath in. The villa was decorated with fresh flowers, which was such a lovely touch. Fresh fruit and more importantly fresh water were supplied.
I loved how Bali life continues on around you with the extended family performing their daily task. Dewa made myself and my children feel really welcome and would answer any questions that we had. He took the time to explain the local customs and gave my children an insight into his world. I would thoroughly recommend staying at his villa. In fact I plan to when I go back.
Dewa is a quite humble man who made us feel safe. We hired him as our driver as well during our stay as he was an extremely safe driver ( which is something that you need in Bali! ) If you want an English speaking driver who doesn’t get all pushy and who anticipates what your needs are before you do, then Dewa is your man!
Dewa's villa was the perfect place to stay in Bali. The accommodation is just as shown in the photos and is very comfortable. Everything feels very new and is in great working order, obviously well maintained. It is comprised of 2 levels, with both levels being similarly spacious and well equipped, the main differences being that the upper level doesn't have an aircon but instead has a view over the nearby farmland. Dewa doesn't rent them out separately though so in our case, being a couple, we had twice as much space as we needed and only ventured upstairs out of curiosity. Next time we'll be asking around if any friends want to come and stay up there during our stay! We felt it was good value even with just the two of us in there.. if you were to utilize all the space and have 4 people stay, it would be a total steal With properties like this on airbnb, why anyone would stay in a hotel is beyond me.
Dewa was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. He works as a tourist driver too so if you require transport he is on hand to help you out at a fair price - with his new, air conditioned car and perfect English ability, you'll learn all about Bali and its fascinating culture. He even brought us coconuts for breakfast one morning which was really appreciated and helped us out with our difficult laundry requests and scooter requirements. The wifi connection was fine too - no major hitches at all.
The location is about a 10 minute scooter ride from central Ubud, through rice paddies and local areas. It's easy to navigate (literally just one straight line into town) and is conveniently near the Cantika Zest Spa (a 'wow' experience - highly recommended) plus relatively close to Alchemy too, which you'll appreciate if you're into health and wellness.
All in all, two thumbs up. A brilliant airbnb find.
Dewa was the most gracious host and his villa was very comfortable to stay in. He was our driver, as well, and even carried our heavy luggage all by himself to our villa! He took us to many wonderful sights in Ubud, including snorkeling, coffee plantations and hiking. When we parted ways and started seeing prices for the same sights at various travel agencies, we realized just how great Dewa's prices were! The villa definitely lived up to the pictures shown here. He left us little flowers all over the villa on our first day, and had our rooms cleaned every day. He is an incredibly wonderful guide and host, and I wish him all the best for his future bookings with other travelers. I strongly recommend him for anyone who plan to visit Bali, as Ubud is an interesting and fun place to stay and his accommodations and recommendations are truly excellent.
We spent two days at Dewa's villa. It is a beautiful and very spacious house set in a little plot of jungle; perfect for relaxing and 'getting away from it all'.
Dewa was extremely helpful and went out of his way to ensure we had a lovely time. The villa is a little outside the centre of Ubud, but Dewa was more than happy to drive us in for dinner and collect us afterwards which was great. I would certainly recommend this as a great place to stay near Ubud.
This was a wonderful house and Dewa was a fabulous host. The house is new, clean, comfortable, and charming, surrounded by trees and rice paddies. The house was cleaned every day and was a very pleasant and peaceful place to spend a holiday. The house is also a good location for long walks in the rice paddies; we took daily walks from the house, and the GPS can help you find the paths. Dewa is extremely knowledgable about getting around Bali, and was always ready to help get information about things to do and places to go. He helped us find restaurants, groceries, information about events, and routes. He also shared with us lovely fruits and coffee beans from his garden. He showed us how to roast coffee beans and cocoa beans. He was an ideal host and very attentive to our needs, and very accomodating and responsive. For example, we needed to do some work while there that required more bandwidth on the internet, and he arranged for a bigger plan. He arranged rental cars and gave us rides in the Ubud area. One day, we mentioned that we kept trying to find black rice pudding but could not find it, and the next day he left it as a surprise in the kitchen for us. He also watched out for us as we were dealing with vendors, and gave us advice on the proper prices for things. He was a very nice person.
this was really nice house. And the area is good, also you can find dogs, wild cats and adorable gekkos)
Next time will stay here again. Dewa, thx for hosting us!
Dewa's place was very clean and pleasant. Dewa and his family are great hosts. His place is a wonderful 20 minute walk from central Ubud and a nice escape from the busy touristy streets. He lives in a quiet village where you will truly be able to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. Dewa is very helpful with transportation as well and will drive you or have a family member or friend take you wherever you want at any time. He is a safe driver and is a wealth of information on local culture and history.
Excellent value for the size and location.
Dewa Arjana's villa is just beautiful. Quality workmanship and quality furnishings make this villa sensational. It is set in beautiful grounds and very private. The kitchen is well quipped and the two bathrooms are very good with nice hot showers.
The villa is just outside of Ubud which suited us perfectly as a lovely escape from the busy streets of Ubud. Dewa is a perfect host, very informative and nothing was a problem. He also has some good recommendations for places to eat and areas to visit. He also has a service where he can be your guide/driver. Our whole family really liked Dewa, he was just the right mix, not over- bearing and very accommodating. We would definitely stay at "Alam Bidadari" again. Thanks Vandre
My family (husband, sister, 22-month-old son) and I had an amazing time in Bali. The villa was beautiful...clean...peaceful... just what we needed to unwind after a somewhat frenetic two-week stay in Singapore. Dewa and his family were amazing hosts who anticipated our every need, and even helped to take care of our son when we needed an extra hand. (Or, were busy getting massages at the spa!) Dewa is also a very knowledgeable tour guide with a very comfortable vehicle... If you can arrange a few excursions with him during your stay, you won't regret it! The airbnb description of the property is quite accurate, but one would have to actually experience the place to truly appreciate its beauty and uniqueness. I highly recommend Dewa's villa to anyone looking to immerse him/herself in an authentic Balinese experience... Much, much better than a hotel stay.
