The Space

Villa Alam Bidadari (The Angel’s Abode)

This new villa was completed in 2012, and combines the best of traditional Balinese open living with a comfortable, modern environment. Located on the edge of a still-traditional village on the outskirts of Ubud, the villa is surrounded by trees, rice fields and a seedling nursery, and the village temple is just down the road. Here you can enjoy Bali’s still-vibrant rural life, while central Ubud with its restaurants and other attractions is just a 5 minute drive away.

The villa:
• Two stories, with a pleasant view and a private garden. Top quality construction.
• One very large bedroom (king bed, 200x200) and attached full bath upstairs – separate bath tub and shower with hot water. Wrap around windows and high ceilings make it a light and airy hideaway.
• Second bedroom (with queen bed (180x200) and attached bath downstairs, including shower with hot water.
• Air conditioning in the downstairs bedroom, and a ceiling fan upstairs.
• Both bedrooms have lockable doors.
• Wifi
• Large open living and dining area downstairs overlooking the garden.
• Fully equipped kitchen with new gas cook top and refrigerator/freezer.
• There is a small lotus pond and temple in the garden where our family makes daily offerings.

The house is suitable for one or two couples, or a small family. The price includes daily housekeeping service and all utilities, including bottled water. There is a laundry nearby and we can help organize that service for you. There is a good grocery store on the near outskirts of Ubud with a wide variety of international products – including meats and dairy products – and there is a weekly organic farmer’s market in the next village just up the road (Tuesdays, year round). Many restaurants in the Ubud area will deliver to the villa.

Our family compound is directly behind the villa, and we are happy to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Since I work in tourism, I can assist in arranging airport pick up or drop off, rental of a car or motorbike, or suggest day trips you might enjoy. The neighborhood is welcoming – and very safe. We have a small dog in our compound, but he does not wander into the guest villa property.

A five minute ride away in central Ubud, you will find many excellent restaurants, world-class spas and yoga studios. The villa is located in the village of Katiklantang, just south of Penestanan and on the southwest side of Ubud. Our village consists of mainly Balinese families (and a few resident visitors) – nearly everyone farms and keeps a cow or some ducks, there’s a painter or carver in most families, kids fly kites in the rice fields, and women are busy preparing offerings for our many traditional ceremonies. You are always welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the local shop and join the chat about the day’s activities.

  • This was a wonderful house and Dewa was a fabulous host. The house is new, clean, comfortable, and charming, surrounded by trees and rice paddies. The house was cleaned every day and was a very pleasant and peaceful place to spend a holiday. The house is also a good location for long walks in the rice paddies; we took daily walks from the house, and the GPS can help you find the paths. Dewa is extremely knowledgable about getting around Bali, and was always ready to help get information about things to do and places to go. He helped us find restaurants, groceries, information about events, and routes. He also shared with us lovely fruits and coffee beans from his garden. He showed us how to roast coffee beans and cocoa beans. He was an ideal host and very attentive to our needs, and very accomodating and responsive. For example, we needed to do some work while there that required more bandwidth on the internet, and he arranged for a bigger plan. He arranged rental cars and gave us rides in the Ubud area. One day, we mentioned that we kept trying to find black rice pudding but could not find it, and the next day he left it as a surprise in the kitchen for us. He also watched out for us as we were dealing with vendors, and gave us advice on the proper prices for things. He was a very nice person.

  • Dewa's place was very clean and pleasant. Dewa and his family are great hosts. His place is a wonderful 20 minute walk from central Ubud and a nice escape from the busy touristy streets. He lives in a quiet village where you will truly be able to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. Dewa is very helpful with transportation as well and will drive you or have a family member or friend take you wherever you want at any time. He is a safe driver and is a wealth of information on local culture and history.
Excellent value for the size and location.

  • Dewa Arjana's villa is just beautiful. Quality workmanship and quality furnishings make this villa sensational. It is set in beautiful grounds and very private. The kitchen is well quipped and the two bathrooms are very good with nice hot showers.

The villa is just outside of Ubud which suited us perfectly as a lovely escape from the busy streets of Ubud. Dewa is a perfect host, very informative and nothing was a problem. He also has some good recommendations for places to eat and areas to visit. He also has a service where he can be your guide/driver. Our whole family really liked Dewa, he was just the right mix, not over- bearing and very accommodating. We would definitely stay at "Alam Bidadari" again. Thanks Vandre

  • My family (husband, sister, 22-month-old son) and I had an amazing time in Bali. The villa was beautiful...clean...peaceful... just what we needed to unwind after a somewhat frenetic two-week stay in Singapore. Dewa and his family were amazing hosts who anticipated our every need, and even helped to take care of our son when we needed an extra hand. (Or, were busy getting massages at the spa!) Dewa is also a very knowledgeable tour guide with a very comfortable vehicle... If you can arrange a few excursions with him during your stay, you won't regret it! The airbnb description of the property is quite accurate, but one would have to actually experience the place to truly appreciate its beauty and uniqueness. I highly recommend Dewa's villa to anyone looking to immerse him/herself in an authentic Balinese experience... Much, much better than a hotel stay.

  • We stayed in Dewa's pieceful Villa just outside from Ubud in the middle of a village. In the morning you wake up with the nature sound around. The house is still in a new condition and well furnished. The kitchen is fully equipped and in the small garden is a bamboo gazebo for relaxing hours. If you rent a motorbike or a bycicle it's not far to Ubud Center. Or you ask Dewa for transport service. Dewa is always friendly and very anxious to make it a perfect stay.Sometimes we sat together and he told us a lot of interesting things about Bali's traditions. We can really recommend this place. For a small budget you get a much higher standard as you would expect! And you get a feeling of the real Bali. Thank you Dewa. If we come again before our own house is availble we would definitely book again. Wish you the best!

    Hi Gunda,
Thank you for staying in my villa. You or your friends can stay in my house anytime, I would be very happy to host you.
    Hope see you again.

  • This place was beautiful. It was very quiet and a nice escape from the city. You can reach Ubud by car. Dewa is happy to provide for you with a ride to the city for a reasonable price and even helped us find someone to drive us on a day trip. He was a great host and had many recommendations for us. He also had a guide for local restaurants which was helpful. Kitchen and bathrooms well stocked. He provided drinking water and complimentary fruits for us. Air con in the downstairs bedroom was good and the fan was suitable in the upstairs bathroom. Both had mosquito nets.

  • Thank you Dewa to you and your family, for making our first month in Ubud enjoyable and so easy. You were most helpful with everything. Even after we have left your Villa you are still helping us!! I am sure we will see you more during our time in Ubud. All the best, Warren, Abbie, Bobby & Pepper

Dewa's Villa is as described. It's away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud but still close enough and a short trip to access Ubud by bike, car or Taxi (Dewa offer's all of these services at standard Island rates). We stayed at Dewa's Villa with our one year old Daughter, and the Villa was not too suited to her, due to the steps around the property. Dewa can assist with most things you might require during your stay, just ask.

    Response from Dewa:

Thank you so much Warren , for staying in my villa. We love your family, sweet family . Difficult to forget your family, one month feel just like a few day for us. I enjoy to hose you.
Yes, my house is not too suite for kid under one year old, because my villa surrounded by steps.
    Thank you Warren .

  • It was a great place to stay for sure. Dewa is an amazing guy, very helpful, positive, with good English. He can arrange everything for you. Villa is spacious, new, full of light. It's very clean and has everything you might need from kitchen equipment to bathroom towels. It's located pretty far from main things in Ubud, so plan either using a bike or hire Dewa as a driver. What's interesting is that you'll be actually living inside a Balinese village, surrounded by palms, trees and morning roosters (be prepared to wake up early on first few days ;) ). And this is unforgettable experience. We liked it a lot and enjoyed our time spent there.

  • Dewa was a fantastic host! :)
He was always there if you needed him
and he provided all the advice you needed
to have a great time in Ubud.
The house he has just finished is amazingly
comfortable and secluded enough in the rice
fields yet so close to everything in downtown Ubud.
I would absolutely love to stay at Dewa's
house if and when i return to Bali!!! :)
    Highly recommend staying!
