About This Listing
Villa Alam Bidadari (The Angel’s Abode)
This new villa was completed in 2012, and combines the best of traditional Balinese open living with a comfortable, modern environment. Located on the edge of a still-traditional village on the outskirts of Ubud, the villa is surrounded by trees, rice fields and a seedling nursery, and the village temple is just down the road. Here you can enjoy Bali’s still-vibrant rural life, while central Ubud with its restaurants and other attractions is just a 5 minute drive away.
• Two stories, with a pleasant view and a private garden. Top quality construction.
• One very large bedroom (king bed, 200x200) and attached full bath upstairs – separate bath tub and shower with hot water. Wrap around windows and high ceilings make it a light and airy hideaway.
• Second bedroom (with queen bed (180x200) and attached bath downstairs, including shower with hot water.
• Air conditioning in the downstairs bedroom, and a ceiling fan upstairs.
• Both bedrooms have lockable doors.
• Large open living and dining area downstairs overlooking the garden.
• Fully equipped kitchen with new gas cook top and refrigerator/freezer.
• There is a small lotus pond and temple in the garden where our family makes daily offerings.
The house is suitable for one or two couples, or a small family. The price includes daily housekeeping service and all utilities, including bottled water. There is a laundry nearby and we can help organize that service for you. There is a good grocery store on the near outskirts of Ubud with a wide variety of international products – including meats and dairy products – and there is a weekly organic farmer’s market in the next village just up the road (Tuesdays, year round). Many restaurants in the Ubud area will deliver to the villa.
Our family compound is directly behind the villa, and we are happy to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Since I work in tourism, I can assist in arranging airport pick up or drop off, rental of a car or motorbike, or suggest day trips you might enjoy. The neighborhood is welcoming – and very safe. We have a small dog in our compound, but he does not wander into the guest villa property.
A five minute ride away in central Ubud, you will find many excellent restaurants, world-class spas and yoga studios. The villa is located in the village of Katiklantang, just south of Penestanan and on the southwest side of Ubud. Our village consists of mainly Balinese families (and a few resident visitors) – nearly everyone farms and keeps a cow or some ducks, there’s a painter or carver in most families, kids fly kites in the rice fields, and women are busy preparing offerings for our many traditional ceremonies. You are always welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the local shop and join the chat about the day’s activities.
1. Please treat our villa with the same respect you would like us to exercise at your house.
2. NO SMOKING in the bedrooms.
3. QUIET HOURS are from 10pm to 8am and are strictly enforced. Please be considerate of our neighbors.
My parter and I had a wonderful stay at Dewa's villa. We initially meant to have 3 people staying but a last minute hiccup meant that there were only 2 of us. We stayed in the bedroom downstairs, which has AC, is spacious, and beautiful. The whole villa is actually more beautiful in person than in the photos. Dewa was a great host and if you want and he is available, he can actually drive you around and suggest sites, etc. Because of him we were able to see the highlights of Ubud efficiently and at the right times. The villa itself is so self contained that it is a great place to relax. Sit outside on the porch which leads into the outdoor kitchen, and just be amongst the sights and sounds. You can pick up food at the supermarket and cook, or walk 5-8 minutes up the road to a local warung/restaurant and eat, or walk into Ubud central, which is about 45 minutes (it is a lovely walk, good views and good exercise!). For the days Dewa was unavailable he organised others to take us around who were as kind and considerate and helpful as he was. The highlight of staying at Dewa's place is that the villa is on the same lot of land as where Dewa lives. This means you are living amongst Balinese people, away from the hotels and touristy spots, and you get to learn about what life in Bali is like. This was a real highlight for me and my partner.
Each day the villa is tidied up for you, a portable water tank is provided for you. Showers have hot water. I can't recommend this place enough! You will have a great time. Great value for 2 couples/4 people. We didn't make full use of the place as there were only 2 of us, but to be honest, having a whole villa to just us two was pretty awesome :) This place is perfect for those looking to unwind, who want to relax in privacy in their own place, and if they want, organise to go into town and enjoy the sights. You will enjoy the villa as much as you enjoy Ubud.
Thanks Dewa for your hospitality and all the efforts you put in to make sure we had a lovely time!
We drove follow the GSP location from Google map. But you probably need to give Dewa a call as the Villa is in the middle of a complex that you can't see via Google street view. Dewa is a great host. He gave us welcome drinks, fruits and stayed for a while to make sure we had everything we need, especially cooking needs as our mum prefer to cook instead of going to resturant. Dewa is a guide too, a great communicator who provide a lot of useful information.
The villa is very clean just as the photos, and maybe even better than the photos. However, as it locates in the middle of the jungle, you will find it is a bit humit. The aircon room downstairs is good to seperate you from the humidity and heat. The room upstair is bright with great jungle view. It is cool enough to enjoy a good sleep at night although without aircon. You will sleep with the sound of the jungle that you will never find in the big city and wake up with dog barking and cock crowing around 6:30 in the morning.
It has been a fantastic experience with Dewa. He is a friendly host and always helpful for every need you have. Importantly he is available all the time to help. The place is kept spot on and shining all the time. We will be more than happy to come back again.
This place is just amazing, the house is clean and well-located in "spiritual" surroundings. Rooms are cleaned everyday. The spot is amazing and the treatment gives the guest an upscale impression.
Dewa is a brilliant host, making everything easy. He gave us complete information about what to do in Ubud, including a list of recommended restaurants with reviews! He drove us to the lake temple and rice terraces as well. He was always accommodating and even called us up one late rainy night to check if all was OK. Perfect host for a perfect spot.
Dewa's villa was perfect - and he was a gracious host. If you're looking to see the real Ubud, stay here!! Peaceful villa, very clean, and Dewa even helped us get a motorbike. Highly recommend this place; much much better than staying in central Ubud. Thanks, Dewa.
My family enjoyed not only having Dewa as our host but also our driver for the entirety of our stay in Ubud. He was incredibly hospitable and very professional, and will go above and beyond to make sure that your stay is relaxing and worry-free.
I came to Ubud with only a faint idea of what we should do. Dewa sat down with me and we planned our itinerary day by day for the trip. He was our day-trip driver, and as someone who was born and raised in Bali, he can tell you a lot about the culture. His fees were also reasonable.
My only comment is that if you stay here, it's not really walkable to central Ubud. You'll have to get a ride there and back, but Dewa can easily arrange transportation for you.
If you want a glimpse of Ubud village life, I highly recommend his space – it's clean and the grounds are lush and beautiful. I also highly recommend this Airbnb for the access it gives you to Dewa, who will make sure that you will get what you want out of Ubud/Bali.
We stayed with Dewa for 4 days last week. To describe his house in a few words, all I can say is it is a little piece of heaven on earth. It's peaceful and beautiful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and come with daily cleaning service. It was great waking up to nature's sounds. It's just outside Ubud, so you either need a driver or a motorbike to get there but Dewa was great at dropping us off in the city center when we needed.
Dewa is an amazing host and driver. He's very honest and kind, and will share whatever information you want to know about Balinese culture. My experience of Bali wouldn't have been the same without him. I highly recommend his home and him as a driver, you won't regret it.
About the Host, Dewa

The villa is right behind his family compound, so it's always safe and welcoming. There is daily cleaning lady and daily gardener. Dewa speaks perfect English and has a ton of knowledge about Bali.
