Urban Cabin Guesthouse

Come and enjoy our colorful and cozy guesthouse with private bath and queen-sized Tempur-Pedic bed. This cabin is nestled amongst our gardens in the back of a fully-fenced yard with side gate for your privacy. You will find our fire pit and grill, complete with pizza stone and vegetable sauté pan inserts, for your use throughout your stay. Feel free to enjoy our fantastic city or simply relax and get some sun in the yard while you are here.

Enjoying the city is easy when a brief 5 minute walk from the front door will land you at a coffee shop, an Irish pub, a pizza place with an affordable happy hour, a grocery store or a light rail stop that is a fifteen minute ride from either downtown or the airport as well as easy access to many of the wonders Portland has to offer. If a walk is in order for you, Mt. Tabor and the neighborhood of Montavilla are both brief strolls.

We are two friendly, professional guys who may or may not be around throughout your stay. If you see us at home, you are more than welcome to say Hi or maybe even share a meal and an evening fire in the back yard. One of us is a chef, so cooking together over the fire or grill can be an option for those cooking foodies out there, if our schedules so align. We are here to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is something you need.

Even though our sweet dog, Audi, will be happy to meet you while you are in our yard, the cabin has been kept a pet free zone for those of you who might have allergies and be concerned about reactions.

Although we do have a three-night minimum stay, we do accept one and two night bookings to fill one and two night openings in our calendar. If you see one or two nights available on our calendar, please inquire. We would be happy to have you.

We do offer discounts for week-long and one month stays. If you are interested in a stay of one week or longer, please send an inquiry in lieu of an actual request, and it will send you a special offer that reflects the discount.

  • Ron's urban cabin was every bit as gorgeous as advertised - the perfect introduction to Portland. He also takes really great care of the little details and presentation, like loading up the coffee maker so that it was ready to go, leaving soap and shampoo in the shower and tying up the towels with a tasteful ribbon.
The garden outside is the best view I could possibly wish to wake up to.
Before we checked out Ron gave us some excellent breakfast recommendations. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • Ron and Brad were welcoming, friendly hosts and respectful of privacy. The cozy cabin was artfully decorated, the queen size bed was very comfortable, and on an unusally hot day for the season a fan was offered which was enough to cool us for sleeping.
The light rail station was very close by with easy access to the whole city.

  • A delightful, intimate space for a private retreat with gracious hosts and a very good dog. I loved being there. :-)

  • Staying at the Urban Cabin was such a treat for my first airbnb experience! The place smelled good, was detailed and clean and even had a pot of delicious coffee ready to go in the morning. Ron was an incredible host and his home and backyard was just beautiful! I will definitely return!

  • We completely fell in love with the Urban Cabin, as well as Ron, and Portland. It was quiet, a wonderful location, and Ron suggested a delicious restaurant our first night there. The Urban Cabin has everything you need for a quiet, comfortable, and private place to sleep, hang out, and use to launch yourself into any area of Portland. We loved our stay so much that will come stay again, unless the next time we come to Portland it's with our moving van!

  • Our first stay in an airbnb and this place is flawless! Clean suite, comfortable bed, very convenient location to get anywhere in the city by car or transit. Didn't get to meet Ron but chatted with Brad a couple times and he's great helping out with any information you may need. 10/10 will be back.

  • Ron and Brad were great; they were around the first couple days we were there and available to give us some feedback on restaurants we were considering. The cabin was really nice- clean, well-lit, well-decorated. It was a quick walk to the train and an easy drive to the city and a short walk to a Fred Meyer (like a Target type grocery store place). It was also nice to have a fire pit available. We would absolutely stay here again!

  • Ron and Brad were amazing hosts during my week long stay in Portland. They have added thoughtful touches to their Urban Cabin that let me feel right at home the entire time. Their backyard is lovely and you truly feel right at home. Ron was super responsive, laid back, and non-invasive which was extremely refreshing. The home itself is adorable (with a comfy bed) and just as described -- 4 minute walk to the MAX in a quiet suburban neighborhood. I'd highly recommend!

About
It really is true that you can take the boy out of Alaska, but you can't take the Alaska out of the boy. I was born and raised in the small town of Homer, Alaska. If you never have been there, you are missing one of the most beautiful places God put on this earth for our enjoyment. Life has taken me out of Alaska (Interlochen, MI, Seattle, WA, Milwaukee, WI, San Francisco, CA, Palm Springs, CA, and currently Portland, OR) to work as a professional ballet dancer and a private chef, but I continue to return to Alaska every summer to energize that Alaskan in me. I enjoy the finer things in life - opera, ballet, symphony, the occasional black tie event, cooking and/or eating a gourmet dinner. On the other side of me is that Alaskan I mentioned. That one definitely is not afraid of activities that might get me dirty. The perfect summer weekend would be spent outside - yes, that means sleeping in a tent and catching fish - lots of fish. In my closet you will find a tux right beside some overalls - Kind of Versace & Carhartt all in one.
