Description

The Space

Cozy, private studio in eclectic and clean 1908 historic building that was originally a boarding house. A European hostel feeling, with wide hallways and tall ceilings, wood floors and wood burning fireplace. Studio D has a queen bed, is on the top floor (second story) and has painted floors, paneled walls, and high ceilings. There is a sink in the room so you don't have to go down the hall to freshen up. It is a perfect room for one person or a couple. The living room is big and open with windows to the balcony. The small but clean bath is down the wide, wood floor hallway. Feel free to interact with the other traveling guests or you can stay to yourself and no one will interrupt you at all. This is not a party house, it's great for a personal retreat, a business trip, or as base from which to explore the city. There is a lovely balcony in the trees to enjoy, overlooking the sidewalk and urban bike traffic. Have your coffee and relax in the tree tops.
There is bike storage & washer/dryer in the basement. There's a key hanging in your room for that door. The building is in the Buckman neighborhood in Inner Southeast Portland. It's just minutes to walk to the river downtown, or the unique Hawthorne & Belmont Streets. It is an artistic neighborhood with lots of trees & bicycles and people buzzing. Coffee shops, wine bars, food carts, vintage stores, and indie movie houses are easily accessible. The bus is just down a couple blocks and will take you downtown in minutes or all the way over to Northwest Portland (NobHill). I think you'd really enjoy your stay. Sheila

PLEASE NOTE: A $25 CASH cleaning fee to be left in envelope in room at check out. Thank you so much!

Guest Access

There is bike storage in the sidewalk level basement, there's a key on a hook in your room. There is a washer & dryer to use for a small fee ($1.50 ea). Street parking available right out front. If you need extra storage just let me know as there is room in the attic or over at my house down the street if you are moving here.

Interaction with Guests

I would never knock on your door or bother you in anyway during your stay but I may see you in the common areas as I come to spruce up things. If you do ever need me I'm just a phone call or text away and I live just down the street.

The Neighborhood

The WalkUps are in the Buckman neighborhood in Inner Southeast Portland. It's just minutes to walk to the river that leads downtown. Or if you feel a bit ambitious you can walk to the shops/bars/restaurants on SE 28th Ave or Hawthorne & Belmont Streets. This is an artistic neighborhood with lots of trees & bicycles and people buzzing. Coffee shops, wine bars, food carts, vintage stores, and indie movie houses. I think it's the best neighborhood in Portland.

Getting Around

The #15 bus is just down on the corner of 16th & SE Morrison and it takes you over the bridge to downtown in minutes or the Northwest Portland if you just stay on it thru downtown.
Cabs are cheap here and great if it's raining. Radio cab is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), just call a bit ahead of pick up.
There's a new street car down on Stark and Grand Avenue (6 blocks) that will take you to the Oregon Convention Center and then to downtown, it's pretty nice. Bike commuting is also very good here, just be sure to bring your helmet and your lights as you can be ticketed if you have no lights.

Other Things to Note

PLEASE NOTE: A CASH cleaning fee of $25 is to be left in envelope for Gabrielle (our sweet cleaning girl) in room for all stays. Thank you so much!

House Rules

Thank you for considering spending your time in Portland at the "16th Ave Walk Ups".
There are just a handful of house rules:
- Please clean up after yourself in the kitchen & bathroom.
-Please take the trash/recycling/compost out to the front when any of it gets full. Thank you so much for that help!
- Please keep all your personal stuff and your towel/washcloth in your room. Please don't leave your shoes in the hallway.
- There is no smoking anywhere on the property.
- There is a curfew of 10:00pm on the balcony in order to be respectful of our neighbors. You may be out alone, but not to chat as these are quiet hours.
- There are no pets allowed, to be considerate of others allergies.
- Please be aware that this is an old building and sound can travel. Please don't play your music or movies too loudly in your room.
- There is a table in the living room for computer use, please don't set up your work space in the kitchen as that can get in the way of people trying to fix their food or have their coffee.

Thanks for being considerate of everyone.

We're happy to help make you more comfortable any way we can, just call/text.
