About this listing
This artist's loft is situated in the historic and artistic Menilmontant/Belleville neighborhood. Very spacious and charming, this loft gets a lot of light, with windows giving onto the East and West. It is located in a classical Ménilmontant building, built in 1880, and the floors in the loft are original terracottas! Minilmally decorated with modern design furniture, this is a special and unique place to spend a week or a month in Paris.
The loft is fully furnished, with a separation for the sleeping area. It is furnished with a comfortable queen size bed, and in the living area, there is a design sofa which also becomes a sleeper for 1 adult or 2 children. The kitchen is big and airy; fully equipped, including utensils, plates, toaster, coffee maker, tea pots and boiler, fridge with freezer, and many spices that you can feel free to use. There is a large wooden table in the open space, which is perfect for dinners, and also for working and reading.
The apartment comes equipped with hi-speed internet with WIFI, bed linens and towels. There is a washing machine inside the apartment for longer stays.
On vacation? You are walking distance to many great cafes, restaurants, bars, and also sight-seeing spots. At 200m, you have the Oberkampf/Belleville neighborhoods with their great restaurants and trendy bars. A short 10 minute walk gets you to Père Lachaise cemetery. Also, walking past the art studios of Belleville, you can arrive to the Buttes Chaumont park in 15-20 minutes.
Close to many different metro stops: you are 2 minutes walking distance to the Menilmontant metro, 5 minutes to Belleville and Rue St. Maur. By metro or bus, you can arrive to the Marais, Centre Pompidou and Beaubourg in 15 minutes. There are also many Ve'lib bicycle stands, and great bus routes around that take you to different parts of the city.
If you want to stay for a longer time, this is the perfect space and situation to rest, read, think, write, and take in all the cultural activities that Paris has to offer..
Situated in the heart of an international neighborhood, there is delicious Vietnamese, Chinese, Turkish, Kurdish, Algerian, Tunisian, and Thai food in walking distance. The most important rule is that the apartment be cared for as if it was one's own home.
The safety of the building and the apartment are important to all of us, and with friendly neighbors around, it is expected that guests respect this environment and its safety as well.
Bani's apartment was lovely, very close to transportation in a fun and lively neighborhood with plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and parks. The space was large, stylish and clean. Comfortable bed and (separate) couch, fresh towels and sheets, handy kitchen with washing machine for clothes.
Bani was great to deal with, very responsive and clear with communications, and made it all easy to set up. Her friend who met us to check us in at the apartment was also very nice and responsive.
I wrote a review of this apartment in September 2012, and all the comments I made then still apply. Since then I have enjoyed a longer stay in the apartment, for a whole month, in November 2012. The place is ideal for a longer stay because it s situated in such a nice neighbourhood. There are numerous friendly local businesses, shops, cafes and bars... I soon had my regular habits with the baker, the butcher, the newspaper vendor and the cafe and, by the end of the month, I felt like part of the community and didn't want to leave. The contrast of this bustling neighbourhood with the quiet and cosy flat makes it a particularly nice space to work in. I spent one week in particular mostly writing in the apartment in the knowledge that everything I needed was only a few minutes away when I felt like going out.
Bani is a very helpful owner, always in touch via email and punctual in her replies to queries. I didn't have any problems during my stay but felt confident that I could get help or advice promptly if I needed it.
We stayed in Banis apartment for 10 days in October 2012. We really enjoyed the place. It was very clean and had fresh towels and bedsheets prepared for us. Also the neighboorhood was really cool, with lots of cafes and bistros close by.
We felt completely safe walking back to her place at night, as there would always be people in the street.
We never met Bani, but she was very attentive via email, and always replied within few hours.
We highly recommend staying at Banis place!
I stayed in Bani's apartment for a week in September 2012 and will be going again in November.
The apartment feels very spacious compared to many properties I have stayed in in Paris. It has a nice big table perfect for working or dining, plus a proper kitchen (not always guaranteed in Paris!), a good shower and a very comfortable bed.
The apartment is well situated, just five minutes walk from the fashionable rue Oberkampf with lots of interesting bars and restaurants. In the other direction is the quieter and more relaxing 20th arrondissement, ideal if you want to get to know the 'real' Paris away from the crowds of tourists, but it's still easy to get into the centre via the metro or the number 96 bus that goes right by the front door. Plus the neighbourhood feels very safe because, even if you come home late at night, there are always plenty of people around.
The apartment itself is surprisingly quiet, given the bustling neighbourhood, and a good place to work during the day.
It was a pleasure to rent from Bani. She is very friendly and helpful and always responded very promptly to request and queries. She is clearly also a talented linguist, speaking flawless English and French in addition to her native Spanish.
Our family of three stayed in Bani's apartment for the whole month of August and we loved it! The neighborhood is eclectic with LOTS of great restaurants, parks and of course, Père Lachaise nearby. The apartment was one of the more spacious studios I have seen in Paris with a wonderful view, a cross breeze for some fresh air, and room to entertain or just lounge about quietly with a good book. The kitchen is well lit and a pleasure to cook in; the bathroom is tout à fait correct.
The main studio is floored with classic Parisian red tiles that haven't been redone in a while. We really liked that funky style and felt very comfortable there. Our host was SO gracious! Bani arranged for a fold up crib for our daughter and a stroller, which really made our stay enjoyable. Bani also gave us lots of neighborhood recommendations and checked in via email frequently to make sure we had everything we needed.
Thank you Bani for a wonderful stay at Ménilmontant. We miss the place already.

About the Host, Bani
Hello, I am an independent filmmaker who lives between Paris and Mexico City. I enjoy spending time in both places, taking advantage of all the cultural activities that both have to offer. I enjoy films, music, reading, parks and having nice dinners with friends. I also enjoy having guests, whether for meals or overnight. My apartment has hosted many people in the past, and I like to share the location and simple decor with people who appreciate it.
