Hello from Athens and the Gizi flat! You are really welcome to visit and see Athens from a completely different point of view: That of an Athenian resident that also happens to be an architect with great interest in urban planning!

The Space

The apartment is big, sunny, comfortable and fully furnished -equipped (wi-fi , air conditioning etc) and follows the typical Athenian flat distribution of the 60s. It has two bedrooms - 12m2 and 14m2 respectively . The flat Is also surrounded by a nice balcony which brings into the house a nice breese during the night and of course that's the reason for being so sunny. Furthermore, there is a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable shower. The basic decoration rule is - less furnitures possible - and as many empty surfaces possible - to make city life simpler and more relaxing.

Visitors will have the chance to stay in a typical apartment of Athens - in a very old and family centric area - that still keeps its aroma of the old vicinity. Here everybody knows everybody !!
The whole block of flat used to belong to my grandmother - from my fathers side - and her sisters. During the late 60s that was an era of big urban transformations in Athens they gave their house and they got in return three flats in the same block of flats.

Gizi area, as already mentioned, is a centric safe lively area of Athens 40minutes walk and 15 minutes by bus (021) from the square to the center/ 30 minutes by buses (phone number hidden)) from Alexandras street to monastiraki/suntagma/plaka etc. or 20 minutes walk away from metro. Whenever I want go downtown I usually take the bus or I go on foot. The square of Gizi is very nice - with small souvlaki restaurants, kiosks, and shops around.

I hope people coming to my place will be having a pleasant - relaxing and Athenian stay - the way normal Athenians live the city.

  • Alkisti is just wonderful! Perfect place to stay and just the right mix of having good company and having space for yourself. Take some oranges when you come, for she is addicted to them ;)

  • I lived in Alkistis appartment for four weeks and I really felt at home. She is a very welcoming, warm and engaged person, that I enjoyed the city, the lazy afternoons at home and a great trip out of the city with. She was like a roommate I had lived with for a very long time.

The room was very nice with a glas door to the balcony, where the morningsun would often shine just at the time when I drank my morningtea there. The appartment has a big livingroom that Alkisti was very keen at sharing.

The neighbourhood is like any normal living area in Athens and the appartment was near the nice little Gizi square where I could take my favorite bus that drove me to Exarhia in 10 minuts. The walking distances to the metro was around 15-20 minuts which can feel a bit long, but there is a huge park near with lots of activity in the weekends.

I would definitely recommend staying there, especially if you stay for a longer periode and not just for the normal turist attractions.

    Enjoy

  • Alkisti's place in Gizi was lovely, with everything I needed. The bedroom was a good size and opened to a nice large balcony. Alkisti was incredibly sweet and positive, and great to be around for my time in Athens. She was helpful about the city, knew all the good spots and was happy to talk and recommend things. The neighbourhood was great- tons of shops, markets, cafés, bars, and not too far from central Athens. I highly recommend staying at this place if you are in Athens.

  • I spent a whole month at Alkisti's place and I have to say she is the best host and flat-mate one can imagine! Always in a good mood, with an infectious smile and the capability to make you feel home from the very first moment you cross the doorsill. I left Gyzi two days ago and I'm already missing my yellow room, the super cosy coach and of course Alkisti - my Greek "sister" who even let me drive her car to Pireus and took me with her to a big fat Greek wedding on Andros!!! :-)) Alkisti, I want to come baaaack.......!!!!!!!

If you are looking for a room in Athens, don't hesitate to book Alkisti's place. You are not only going to gain a great flat-mate but also the feeling of having become a real Athenian in a super clean and cosy typical Athenian apartment in a neighbourhood with a magical Athenian atmosphere - that's guaranteed! :-)

  • It was very nice staying Alkisti's home. She's a sweet person and was very helpfull with my traveling plans! I truly recommend Alkisti as your host!
The apartment is not in a turistic area of Athens, but you can easily reach those areas by taxi (5 euros maximum), and I quite liked not being in the usual turistic spot.

About
I come from an Island but I grew up in Athens - When I was a little girl, during summer time, my grandmother used to take me with her to look for tourists whenever a new ferry was coming to the port of Andros - Gavrio. At that time my grandmother was running a small hotel near port. I was really embarrassed because we had to ran behind the tourists and ask them in bad English --- Do you need a room? Of course I have many lovely memories from those people ....I think this is a reason among others that I like communication, learning languages and meeting new people. Times have changed of course...my grandmother is a retired woman nowadays and she only takes care of her chickens and goats while I am looking for people through the internet !
