Interaction with Guests

I enjoy being home to welcome guests and to provide any information that may be required for your stay.

I provide the level of interaction that guests prefer. This may be the space required to suit the visit (the house is large and my schedule can be busy so I may rarely be seen) or daily friendly interaction to discuss events, recommendations and activities.

The Neighborhood

Within a couple of minutes is the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Crown Casino, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Arts Centre, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Etihad stadium, Vintage stores, South Melbourne Market and Southbank.

Either walk or catch the 96 tram from City Rd (a 2 min walk away) directly into the CBD or to St Kilda.

Beach and water sports 5 mins away and a beautiful beachfront promenade runs to St Kilda.

The No 1 Tram goes directly the Arts Precinct, Theatre District and Federation Square which showcases daily events and is the heart of Melbourne.

There are many excellent wine bars, cafés and restaurants close by, fresh produce at the South Melbourne Market and a supermarket a couple of minutes away.

Close by is the Botanical gardens with beautiful floral walks and lakes, and a wide array of events, theatre and outdoor musical festivals.

Public Transport is located practically at the doorstep and will take you absolutely anywhere you need to go in Melbourne.

Myki cards can be borrowed for topping up and getting around on all public transport.

The City Rd 96 tram stop is a 2 minute walk away and runs from 5am- midnight through the week and til about 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The bus from the city stops across the road (Garden City; 250 & 251)

Melbourne Bike Share station - a great way to cycle wherever your heart desires.

  • The location was excellent close to Melbourne south markets which was a delightful surprise and 10 mins from the central city by bus and less than 10 min walk from my course at Australian College of Massage. Stress free. Carmen was hospitable and helped me with my bags up the stairs which was great as id injured my knee. Clean, spacious, High ceilings Bohemian chick and ultra zen modern . Awesome thank you.I was hardly there as I was so busy enjoying all Melbourne has to offer and catching up with friends so i was busy from very early morning to late at night enjoying Melbourne struggle free due to such a close location.

  • I stayed with Carmen for about a week in May, I must say I like the place a lot. The location of the house is great, it's a 5 minutes walk to the nearest tram station, and you can directly walk to the river or Crown Plaza in about 10 minutes. Yet the neighborhood was quiet, I had very good sleep during night. There are also very nice restaurants in the neighborhood, 3 minutes walk along the road there is a fantastic small Indian restaurant which I loved, and there's also a great Mediterranean Cafe just around the corner. In addition, there's small supermarket just opposite the road.

The room itself was large and bright, and most importantly, very clean. Carmen was very nice to show me the facilities when I arrived, and gave me maps and helped me to plan my travel. She was very fast in responding my messages as well. As a host, Carmen is friendly and helpful. All in all I'd say this is a great place to stay in Melbourne.

  • I usually stay with Airbnb hosts because whenever I travel to a new city, I want to know all the insider's tips, and possibly make new friends around the world. So when Carmen called me to inform me that she was not going to be around during our stay I was a bit disappointed, but of course that was Easter Weekend so... totally understandable that she, too, wanted to get out of town.
I was traveling with a couple of friends, and booked the room for 3 people. I slept on a mattress on the floor (not saying that because I minded, but just because some of you out there may).
Location of the place is great, the place itself is great, we ended up having breakfast somewhere else, though, because there was not much we liked on the shelves.

    Response from Carmen:

    Thanks Livia,
I am glad that you appreciated the location and thought my place was great. I think we would both agree that for the rate that I gave you over Easter ($50 per night per person) it was a very reasonable.
I’m glad that you understood I was going to be away and that Rolf would be here in the house hosting to help you with insider’s tips. He explained that you had a great time in Brunswick Street at his recommendation.
Yes it is beneficial for others to know that the large Queen room has a queen size bed and for a third person staying I make up a 40cm thick single mattress/divan on the floor. I did give you the option of booking the second room which had a single bed in it though I understood that you were happy to accept the lower rate than the comfort of the second room.
Breakfast was help yourself to a selection of; Organic sourdough bread from the local Bakery, organic raspberry and apricot spreads, vegemite, a choice of butter or olive spread, nutella, peanut butter. There was sultana bran and homemade muesli and a selection of black tea (English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Australian Afternoon Tea, Russian Caravan) decaffeinated black tea, green tea, chai and herbal tea’s (Blueberry, Apple & Rosehip, Cranberry& Pomegranate, Chamomile, Lemon & Ginger

  • Once again it is great to stay with Carmen. It is an enjoyable experience to stay in a great house in a nice area so close to the CBD. Carmen is a lovely, thoughtful host.

  • Carmen's house is in great condition. The room I stayed in was very clean, with lots of space. I liked that the house was not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city, but is close enough that it's just a short tram ride away. I was also able to easily walk into the city when I wanted some exercise.

Carmen was also a very hospitable host. She gave me maps to use during my stay, and also gave me tips and advice on what to see and do.

  • This was my first time using AirBnB and I had a great time! Carmen was very friendly and welcoming, and the house was fantastic. It was a beautiful large and sunny bedroom. I could not of been more impressed! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to stay in Melbourne city.

  • ***This was my first airbnb stay. I went to Melbourne for 3 nights to visit my son who lives in the CBD. I usually stay at a hotel, but I heard about airbnb and I'm so glad I booked with Carmen in her beautiful home.
***Carmen's help and directions before I arrived were easy to follow and she met me her door when I arrived. She is a very happy, personable, friendly and helpful host who will share her home with you and help you with anything you need to know for your stay.
***South Melbourne was new to me so I decided to stay there and explore a different part of the city too which is so enjoyable - wide, leafy streets, cafes and parks.
***My room was huge, quiet, beautiful, very comfortable and well equipped with all that I needed for my stay.
*The stylish bathroom had an excellent shower - very good supply of hot water that ran evenly - not hot and cold like in some places! The breakfast was just what I enjoy too.
*The tram stop is a three minute walk away going directly to the CBD or St Kilda, so getting around was simple. Getting back from the tram stop late at night was safe too which is a consideration for me as a single woman.
*** So, this is where I'll stay each year.
    ******* I recommend Carmen's airbnb - it's perfect :)

  • Really nice place in a quite district, and just 15-20 min walk from CBD. Amazing view over downtown from rooftop terrace!

Neat and comfortable living space as well as shared areas.

Many thanks to Carmen for relaxed atmosphere, for being so helpful in exploring Melbourne (that was my first time in city) and additional thanks for delicious homemade muesli :)

Northern N.S.W, Ubud, The Great Ocean Rd, The Murray River, country Victoria, a wedding in India have been recent holiday destinations. I've lived in Melbourne for 30 years and 15 out of those years in South Melbourne. It's a great place to live and I've come to know Melbourne well over the time I've been here. As a host, I'm here to help your visit to Melbourne be whatever you desire it to be and can provide my experience, local tips and information. What makes my world go round? Great food, enjoyable company, living well, keeping fit, peace of mind and rewarding activity. Simple really.
