About This Listing
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore was voted the most beautiful place in the world. This description could not be more accurate. You will feel as if you have entered your own private Caribbean beach with amazing shops, food and hikes.
I am renting the lower portion of my house out. The home was just built two years ago and is gorgeous. Wood Floors, big open windows, and it is located in the quaint town of Suttons Bay Michigan. Suttons Bay is right on the beautiful white sandy beaches of Lake Michigan located in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. My home is 1 1/2 blocks from the downtown area and beaches and 3 blocks from the grocery store. The TART trail is two blocks away and is a gorgeous bike trail that is 15 miles long and takes you into Traverse City. Come stay in my home. You wont regret it. You will have your own privacy downstairs but we will share a kitchen. I have a huge projection screen if you want to watch movies at night. However, I have a feeling you will want to use the bonfire pit, roast marshmallows, go for a night hike, hit up the many vineyards and wineries, cherry orchards, brew pubs, and natural wonders. I can help design your trip for you as well. I know of tons of hiking trails and private beaches. I am also a pretty good chef...so would love to make you a homemade meal while you are here. Look forward to hearing from you soon!
Internet, Washer/Dryer, Coffee Pot and coffee, Refrigerator, Private Bathroom, Porch, Bedroom and Sitting Room, Free Parking, Outdoor Fire-pit, Barbecue Grill, 2 Bikes to use on the TART trail (awesome 15 mile bike trail), beach towels and anything else you may want to use that you have forgotten I can lend. Mi casa es tu casa :)
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as they want. My home is set up perfectly for guests to have their own privacy and just stay in their own private lower level, or they can come up and join Tim and I in our home. We have had bonfires with guests, gone on wine tours, hikes, beaches, and made incredible dinners together. Some guests like to stay to themselves. My mission is to make my guests as comfortable as possible so it is entirely up to them.
Suttons Bay and all of the Leelanau County villages are quaint little beach communities. There are incredible restaurants, gorgeous white sandy beaches that stretch for miles and miles, hiking and biking trails, wineries, breweries, farms and fun for all ages. Once I moved here I never left. It is paradise.
You will need a car to come visit. All of the towns are about 6-12 miles apart and there is public transportation (the BATA bus) but I don't recommend it for your sole transportation needs.
Other Things to Note
I have a minimum of a two night stay.
This is a non-smoking and pet free home. I will supply clean sheets and towels and expect the rooms to look the same when you leave as they were when you arrived. The bedroom is a real bed and the living room has a futon in it for extra guests.
Jenny and Tim were very welcoming, providing us with dinner recommendations before we even arrived, and responding to all inquiries promptly. They invited us to their fire pit for wine/beer and great conversation. They were helpful but also respected our privacy. The listing was accurate, so there were no unpleasant surprises (always a plus!). Rooms are accented by Jenny's wonderful landscape paintings of local settings. We would definitely recommend their place as a convenient location in Sutton's Bay and Leelanau county.
Jenny and Tim were great hosts. This was our second trip back to Michigan (wine country) and we had a great time enjoying Sutton's Bay! Jenny was quick to give us great recommendations on great restaurants and wineries nearby (and SO friendly!!). The location of her home was perfect - we biked around the quaint little town and fell in love with the cute downtown. Their home was clean, spacious and comfortable. They even let us put our bikes in their garage when it rained overnight. The only downside is that the weather was so cold and rainy we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor fire bit (with amazing wooden arch) and hammock. Next time! Oh, and they have an awesome yellow VW van! :)
My wife and I with our 2 kids stayed at Jenny's place for close to a week. We had a great time and Jenny was uber-helpful and friendly. She went out of her way to ask multiple times if there was anything we needed. We have family in the area so we did not have much time to hang out with her, but we felt that would have been an option otherwise. Her place is as advertised (halls and front room maybe 10-15% bigger than the photos) and for 2 people plenty of space. With 4 adults it might be a little tight at times with one bathroom, but there is access to a roomy kitchen, dining and deck area upstairs. Besides, you'll be out and about in the resort areas most of the time anyways. Jenny's place is also walking distance to all the cafes and the beach. It was just awesome overall. We are totally coming back to stay with her next season. Don't forget to ask Jenny for tips on stuff around the area. She knows a lot on the topic.
Jenny and Tim were excellent hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at their beautiful home. The location was perfect! We loved Sutton's Bay and biking the TART trail to the Leelanau wineries. They gave us great recommendations for bike trails, hiking, and restaurants. Their home was very cozy, comfortable, and clean. We will definitely return again!
The home itself was great! It was only built a few years ago so all the features were new and this was Jenny's first home so all the furnishings were new as well. The location was perfect! It's in an artsy downtown but on a dead-end row a few blocks from the hustle & bustle. Jenny & Tim were very helpful and nice. Just keep in mind that sharing a home with an owner is dif from renting your own place.
Nice new home with one bed, a futon and private bath. Jen made sure everything was clean and well presented. Nice décor and it was great having the mini fridge, micro and cups/coffee maker. very close to the main street. Thank you, Jen!
Jenny was wonderful. We stayed with her while we participated in an art show in her area so we were a bit tired every night. Jenny greeted us when we got there and then gave us our privacy. The house was beautiful, the location close to town and perfect and the accommodations were private, clean and very comfortable with much more room than I expected. We had our own private entrance and even a living room with a fridge and coffeemaker.
About the Host, Jenny
I am a K-12 Art teacher in beautiful Leelanau County; nestled in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. I love to hike, kayak, camp, and cook. I lived in New Zealand while I got my teaching certificate and realized how amazing it is to be able to travel freely on a budget staying at homes of locals. I just recently took 5 of my students to NYC through airbnb and we stayed right in Times Square. Had a great time!! Our hosts were amazing. I think this is such an incredible venue for everyone that gets on here.
My home offers solitude if that is what you seek....or I can help plan your trip and show you around if I am free on the days you are here. Most of all....I LOVE where I live and know you will too. I want to help make your vacation the best it can be. Just let me know how I can help.
Do you like cheese and wine? The woman who owns this place is from France and she makes the cheese right there. It is so cool to get a tour and sample with wine. So yummy :)
Wonderful Cider right on the orchard just a couple miles from my home. Great people and great pickled eggs :)
There are gardens, animals, a bakery and most important.....the best wine Leelanau County has to offer. It is so close to my home. Can be accessed by bike via the TART Trail.
Shops, restaurants, ferry service to the Manitou Islands.
A great restaurant right on the river. The bloody mary's here are the best and even come with a chub!! EEEkkk!!
Historic Fishtown is a must visit if you come here. This is where fresh fish is brought in everyday off the boats and distributed to local restaurants. Also the location of the Manitou Ferry.
This is one of my favorite beaches close to home.
The northern most point in Leelanau County. This quaint town has a brand new Bowling Ally, Restaurants, Beaches, Hiking Trails, and more. You must make it up here.
Best hiking trail in the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Right out of the door to my house you can get on this 15 mile gorgeous trail that winds through farms and forest to Traverse City.
Best food in Traverse City. Located in the old State Hospital that has now been turned into a historical community with art galleries, wineries, shops, and a cool vibe. A must visit.
A wonderful town packed with everything a visitor would want ranging from beaches, hikes, shops, art galleries and restaurants. No visit is complete without going here!
Great Trails through the woods and one dumps you out onto one of the most incredible and magical beaches in Leelanau.
Very pretty hike with views of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan. Can be a long hike or a short hike...and is a loop so both directions are different.
The ferry runs every other day...so you need to camp out under the stars in paradise (bummer right?). For the adventurous vacationers I always tell them this is a must see.
Wonderful beaches, hiking, and sightseeing of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Want to take a gorgeous ferry to an incredible island full of history and incredible views? This is the place for you. I love the Manitou Islands. North is better for overnight camping trips.
