About this listing
A private home lodging located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a spectacular post card ocean/ jungle view.
A short walk to the beach and the National Park. We are not a hotel so if you enjoy staying in a home this is the right place.
A full kitchen is available for your use but breakfast is service in the main house. A large deck overlooking the ocean and tropical rainforest is a wonderful way to see wildlife or just relax with a cold drink and good book.
Manuel Antonio and the National Park is internationally known for its breathtaking beauty and abundance of wildlife. Without even moving from our deck you can see monkeys (3 kinds), sloths, coatis, tucans and lots more in their natural environment. Our garden has many species of tropcial plants including heliconias, cinnamon, allspice, papaya, bananas, pineapples and orchids. We are a 10 min walk to the beach. Everything you need can be found within walking distance. A small supermarket, banks, gift shops and some of the best restaurants in the area are a short distance away. Looking directly at the National Park we have one of the best views in Manuel Antonio. Our very small friendly bi-lingual staff with many years of living in Costa Rica, can make any tour reservations for you. If you would like to go sailing, river rafting, parasailing, horseback riding, kayak through the mangrove, or swing through the canopy we can arrange it for you.
All our guests may use the deck and livingroom/kitchen area of the teak house. The view is spectacular and there is a hammock and lots of deck chairs to sit and watch the monkeys passing though the trees.
I will only receive guests after 6 pm by direct request, so ask first if you plan on arriving at night.
Sorry no arrivals after 6 pm
I need to know when you will be arriving and if you will be needing a parking space.
No noise after 10 pm and no unregistered guests in the room.
Casa Buena Vista and Anita are great! Anita was super friendly and views are breathtaking and sometimes hilarious - I saw monkeys on the roof within 5 minutes of being in my room. The open windows with bug screens are perfect for airflow and jungle sounds - I could wake up everyday in this room and have an instant smile on my face!
The beach is about a 10-15 minute walk down a step and long hill (or you can drive down it if you have a 4 x 4 and drive onto the beach **Probably not for the faint of heart or those inexperienced 4x4 and steep hill experience** ). Thats what I did after walking down and taking a taxi back up following my tour through the national park. The park was about 25 to 30 minutes walking (it's farther than it looks) but the walk down the beach is beautiful. I preferred the more secluded beach at the bottom of the hill but both sides are accessible easily from the house.
Getting there was easy with my GPS. I had searched by points of interest for Mango Moon Hotel I believe and then Casa Buena Vista is about 100mts on the other side of the road. There was parking available for my rental car as well.
The common area was nice and the internet worked well. Outside of the common area the wifi was spotty.
Overall, I would stay here again and will truly miss the experience of walking up to monkeys howling or playing and then catching your first glimpse of the ocean and national park peninsula as soon as you rise up.
Graaaciaaas
Anita was very helpful in responding to our needs, from telephoning for bus reservations to being able to switch a room for me at my request. She is an interesting lady and willing to share her life experiences with her guests.
Anita was so sweet. Her place was so cute and overlooking manuel antonio national park and beach. The room was very spacious compared to the other places I've stayed at throughout Costa Rica. Breakfast was included comprising of toast and jam, eggs, muffin/cake, and fruit juice. Anita and her housekeeper helped us set up transportation and tours. This place was very close to a roadway that led us directly to Manuel Antonio beach. Taking the bus to Quepos was also very cheap. Less than $1 roundtrip for a bus ride. Was a very nice stay. Would definitely recommend!
My boyfriend and I just stayed 2 nights here and had a wonderful time. We were in room number One I believe. It was beautiful with an unbeatable view and all the amenities one could want, lil kitchen area and private bathroom, 2 ceiling fans, plenty of seating, good wifi, etc. Anita made us feel comfortable right away and served a delicious breakfast in the mornings. The property is so cool! You can walk down a lil dirt road to the beach in about 10 minutes, or be right in town in 5, places with live music and good drinks even closer. The best part about the place though is getting to meet someone like Anita, she inspires! :-)
Overall great experience. Anita is on the ball with great communication and details. I didn't get to meet her when i arrived but her assistant is super friendly and helpful. The location is off of the main street near the first (i think) Manuel Antonio bus stop. The second or last one goes all the way down to the heart near the park. Its a taxi ride to/from there. You can get to part of the beach a bit less occupied in about 15 mins walking. Short taxi to the park or you can walk. Place is a bit rustic, spacious and nicely screened to put you out in nature but not let nature into the room. Breakfast was amazing. Definitely recommend.
Anita's place was by far our favorite place in the Manuel Antonio/Quepos area. The view from our bedroom was intoxicating and waking up to the sounds of rainforest animals every morning was magical. Breakfast was made for us every morning by her generous housekeeper and it was delicious. I couldn't recommend this place enough!

About the Host, Anita
I discover Manuel Antonio 38 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our (website hidden) We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
