We enjoyed our stay here. The pictures were perfectly accurate and the house was clean and comfortable. It is an old Victorian home so everything is a little creeky. The location was great for us. We enjoyed being close to the city of boston without being right in the city. We also did have our own car so I'm not sure how easy it is to get around the area using public mass transit. We never met Greta as she was away on vacation I believe but she did email me prior to our arrival with instructions. I would stay here again as long as I was in the room with the private bath. That is definitely the best room in the house.
The room was adequate and spacious but our host did not have our room cleaned for us for our arrival. It was lucky that her friend was staying while she was away and we were able to call her for fresh bed sheets and towels. She also kindly came back with disinfectant wet ones to clean the bathroom. The room is needing some maintenance. The bed was comfortable and the neighborhood was lovely. Quite a hike or of town though. You need to get a bus which doesn't run regularly and follow it with a train. Sometimes this took up to 45 minutes. Overall a 6 out of 10.
Our host was on vacation, so we had no greeters, per se. However, everything was exactly as she described it in her directions.
It was 92 degrees when we landed in Boston from Ireland and Greta's place was incredibly hot. We opened all the curtains as well as the windows, and we did get some sleep.
Gerta was more of a downturn from last AirBNB Trips. But her housekeeper is a wonderful person and made our stay as good as possible in the circumstances of the situation :
Gerta had informed us that she would not be at home during our stay, however it was not clear to us and also to the other guests, that there would be a constant in and out of guests in the house (there was at least one change a day and up to 3). Many things are still in ok shape but the pictures are frequently not accurate anymore. Many things are worn off and also some things are broken or simply do not work anymore.
Also the Airport is near by (which is convenient), but it is very loud all through the day and night.
However, her housekeeper is a wonderful friendly and very helpful lady, who showed us the way around the apartment and made sure we had everything we needed (as far as she was able to fix it or help us).
On a last note I would like to point out that the beach is only about 5 minutes from the apartment and the neighborhood is peaceful and quiet.
We loved our room and having a private bath. Location was great as well, we biked through the neighborhood and to the beach. We drove into the city for day trips, but you can also take public transit (learned from other Airbnb guests at the house at the time.) Since there are 3 rooms upstairs with a shared bath and 1 with a private bath on the main floor, it had a feel of staying at a quaint hostel as we met other people staying there, but not the host.
We had a lovely stay in Winthrop. The room is clean and spacious, with a big comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom is great. We didn't have the chance to meet Gerta, but had nice contact with all the other airbnb guests. We didn't have a car, but there is a small supermarket nearby and you can travel to Boston in about 30 minutes by bus and train.
Gerta's house was beautiful and in a nice neighborhood. Didn't have any issues getting there. Gerta and her family were gone on vacation, so we didn't get to meet her. The house was nice and clean and ready for us when we got there. My only issue was that we didn't realize that we would be sharing the house with 3+ other families. That information was not given to us when we booked the room, but was not an issue. Everyone we stayed with was nice and friendly and was not a bother. Gerta is a nice host.
