We had a great overnight stay with Gerta! She was flexible with check in and check out times, helped us find a restaurant, have us our space while still being personal and provided a beautiful, private room for us in her lovely home. We would definitely stay with her again!
It's a really big and comfortable room. The kitchen is also good to make breakfast. We bought some food, store in the refrigerator and make breakfast everyday. Gerta and her husband were also kind and friendly.
We are very happy with our stay in this house. The owners are very friendly and nice. They make you feel right at home and are always good advice.
The room is very spacious and comfortable, I highly recommend this property.
We stayed in the second floor large room with private bath. There are three other bedrooms on the third floor. The bed was very comfortable and having the private bathroom was very nice. We spent four nights here. There is a lovely kitchen, living room and another open room on this floor for guests to use. Some concerns we had was in getting the main ceiling light to work, It is a ceiling fan with 4 light shades. Only one had a bulb in it. There was a remote control for it, but it didn't work. There is no TV in this room, but Gerta assured me that we could watch the TV in the adjacent living room. Well, it didn't have cable, so it only worked for Netflix, Hulu and other similar channels. Only once could we get that to work. There are also remote controls for the fans/lights in the living room and other sitting area, but those remotes do not work either. Gerta was not around to ask how things were, or if we needed anything. Her friend, John, was a little more available, but we felt left on our own.
The kitchen is nice for keeping and preparing food, although there was no microwave. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee provided, so we had to provide that.
One other consideration to have is that the Village of Winthrop is a 'dry' village. There are liquor stores, but no corner pubs or taverns. We were hoping to find something like that during our visit, so we could watch the Red Socks in the playoff games, and have a quick walk 'home'. There is a wonderful restaurant a 20 minute walk away, and you could bring your own wine in for your meal. On the next block there is a liquor store, a cafe and a pizza place, and also a Dunkin Donuts.
Public transportation into Boston takes about 40 minutes, using a bus and train. Cab fare to the nearest train station is $5.00, so not too bad. We purchased a 'Charlie' card for $18.00/ 7 day pass, and that is good for both bus and train. The bus stop is 2 blocks away.
The neighborhood felt very safe, even at night. People were out walking dogs, etc.
If you decide to stay at Gerta's be prepared to climb stairs. 4 flights to the top rooms! She has you use a side door to enter, and it has a punch code lock and is a narrow and steep stairwell. She also has a sweet German Shepherd that can be initially intimidating.
Very nice and cosy room in a beautiful area, just 15 minutes drive to Boston.
A large bright bedroom with private bathroom (!) In a beautiful and comfortable home near the Atlantic coast. Great place for an overnight stop and rest.
Difficult to find the house as no address was given after booking. Luckily one of the photos has the street number! Anyway the room had what we needed. Stayed one night - the dog was friendly. No microwave but other than that it was great!
Eat at Rossetti's!! Easy walk there.
The reservation was canceled the day of arrival. This is an automated posting.
We arrived to find the front door open and nobody there to meet us and explain what was what and where things were. The front door was broken and no key to lock it with. The Comcast bill was overdue so there was no wifi or television. The room itself was ok but people were coming and going staying in other rooms and we had no was to secure our valuables and it was just a weird situation. As it turned out we were told Gerta was out of the country and there was nobody to help us with anything. Very disapointing overall.
Gerta has a very beautiful house in the suburb of Boston and we really enjoyed our stay. The complete second floor seemed to be inhabit by airbnb users and we got in touch with interesting people from Canada and France. Even though we never met Gerta personally everything was prepared for our stay. The provided parking ticket is very helpful to park the car right next to the house. We had a great time in Boston and really recommend the stay at Gertas place.
