The Space

San Francisco Vacation: Victorian Flat Near Golden Gate Park, Great Restaurants, De Young Museum, Academy of Sciences,Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, Botanical Garden, Ocean, Safe, (website hidden) Bus, Easy Public Transportation, Easy Parking, Close to 280 and Marin.

We live in a Victorian 2 bedroom flat. The flat is a 100 year old Victorian with character, has hardwood floors, 2 working fireplaces, central heat and a private laundry room with a high energy efficient washer and dryer. (Central heating is great in San Francisco, as many places do not have this and are cold, drafty and/or moldy due to the fog and proximity to the ocean.) Beautiful backyard with organic garden.

The room is calm and quiet, with hardwood floors. There is a queen size futon with a new 3 inch thick memory foam pad on top - super comfortable.

High Speed WiFi is included. We have VCR/DVD player. 1.5 blocks to Golden Gate Park and 2 miles to the Pacific Ocean. There is a great yoga studio one block from our house. Our street is quiet but there are many bus lines close by. If you drive, you can be on the Bay Bridge in 15 minutes, and on the Golden Gate Bridge in 10 minutes. 19th Ave is on a diagonal, and is only 3 blocks away from our house, for super easy access to 280. Parking is very easy here. There are many great restaurants within walking distance. Close to Golden Gate Park, where you can walk thru a magical redwood grove on your way to the rose garden or Stow Lake. 2 blocks from De Young Museum or Academy of Sciences. There is a very large and wonderful bookstore called Green Apple on Clement street near 6th avenue, open into the evening 7 nights a week.

Parking is free and easy.

Feel free to play the piano!

Having lived in SF for many years, this is by far my favorite neighborhood to live in! Stay here and you will have a great, relaxing, rejuvenating and fun time in San Francisco.

The Neighborhood

This is my very favorite neighborhood in San Francisco. We're a block and a half to Golden Gate Park, right by the De Young Museum, Academy of Sciences, Rose Garden, Stow Lake, Japanese Tea Garden, and Redwood grove. Our neighborhood is non-toursity and the real deal. There are people who grew up in their houses and still live there today. We know our neighbors (and their pets:). It's so great to go enjoy all the city has to offer, then come home and relax in peace, sleep deeply, wake up and have breakfast on the back steps looking at the garden, then go out and have another fun day.

Getting around

Not only is parking easy, there are many bus lines very close by that will take you anywhere in San Francisco and beyond. Golden Gate transit, plus the bus lines: 1, 2, 5, and 38 are all very close.

  • Shayla and Dave are awesome hosts!!! They gave my parents a lot of helps while they stayed there. Very considerable, helpful and friendly. My parents had great time staying in their house. I would definitely recommended their sweet house to my friends and family.

  • I had originally booked a hostel bunk for an 11-night stay in San Francisco, and I'm so glad a good friend talked some sense into me to try Airbnb for the first time. I was gladder still to have wound up at Shayla and Dave's—from the moment I walked through the door, I knew I was in a good place.

Shayla and Dave are both lovely, open, kind, and welcoming people who are a pleasure to share a home with. The home itself is very comfortable and cozy with a great shower, awesome on-site laundry facilities, a lovely kitchen full of natural foods they kindly shared with me, and a gorgeous sunny back stoop for eating breakfast on.

I loved my room and appreciated the closet, the desk, the comfortable futon, the dim lights, and the white noise machine. it was a a restful refuge from busy days working downtown and in the inner city. Bus service is good, too: a little far, but to me, worth the distance in that it was nice to come home to a quiet space.

Thanks, Shayla and Dave, for being part of a life-changing trip to SF!

  • Sadly we did not meet Shalya. But she must be a very nice, joyful and kind person. We ask her for some restaurant recommendations and she mailed us around 20 locations, describing them in detail and she added the web sites. We fell in love with her sweet cat…We had a great time in San Francisco!

  • Shayla and Dave were very friendly and gracious hosts. The neighborhood itself is quiet and relaxing, perfect if you're looking for a quiet place to stay inside the city but still close to the action. I would definitely stay there again.
