The Space

This house is meant to be filled with many people and good energy. So, come to MKE and enjoy the warmth of this house. I rent 3 rooms in my home. Sometimes there is a full house but often you will have it to yourself. I've been hitting yard sales, flea markets & good trash picks since I was 18. My home is a mix of colors, midcentury modern furniture and art. This listing is for one single bedroom (12x10) with a comfy futon which sleeps 2 average people. With a double single blow up mattress the room can hold 3 guests comfortably. there is also a love seat and large closet. You will have access to all rooms on the first floor including living room w/ natural fire place, kitchen & screened in porch with grill and dining room.

Included in your stay are towels and wash cloths, Laundry facility and bikes for touring the city (helmets not included). Your stay also includes secure wifi, one garage space (if available), plus free on-street parking for 3 nights and cable (email hidden) in the living room. Feel free to help yourself to morning coffee and whatever goodies you can find in the kitchen to get your day started.

Situated on the east side close to UWM. Walking distance to excellent restaurants, historic Oriental theater and shopping, walking or biking distance to the lake, beaches and bike trails.

Public transit to anywhere in the city is a 1/2 block at most 2 blocks from my home.

Check In
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Maggie's for 3 days, 2 nights (Saturday - Monday). The home itself was very peaceful and relaxing. Maggie was very warm and welcoming. As other reviewers have mentioned, the neighborhood can be a bit noisy at night since it is located practically on the UWM campus. One thing that I wasn't aware of was that she had two other bedrooms in the house available for other guests as well. If I would have known that in advance, we may have though twice about booking this place, as it decreased our sense of privacy. There wasn't a lock on the bedroom door of our room, which made me feel a little uneasy at night. There was 1 full bathroom that we all had to share, but I never ran into any issues with the other guest being in the bathroom when I needed it. Most of the guest were out and about throughout the day, as were we, so it ended up not being that big of a deal. One issue I had was the parking, I felt there was a discrepancy with what was described on the listing: "One garage space plus free on street parking for 3 nights." We weren't offered a garage space, which was fine, but it probably shouldn't have said that on the listing. Also the "on street" parking is actually only on the weekends, during the week it changes to 1-2 hour parking (unless you have a permit, which there was not one available for us to use). For everything that was offered, I felt the price to be a little high. Overall, the house was nice and so was Maggie, but I had hoped that the stay would have been a little more accommodating and accurate to what was described on the listing.

    Response from Maggie:

Hi Carmen, I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay and felt it was not of value. I do state in my home description that there are other rooms for rent you must have missed it if you read my description (it is in the 3rd sentence). Unfortunately, I have 2 spots in the garage and both were designated to other guests that requested the space when they booked their stay. Since your only parking issue was for 1/2 day on your check out day, I did not think it would be upsetting to you. I have recently found a handyman and my next project is to change the door knobs on all bedroom doors and the front door. I appreciate that you brought up the potential for noisy nights but I think it would have been appropriate for you to mention that I supply earplugs. My review of you may have been slightly different regarding communication. If you had voiced your concerns during your stay, I would have been happy to do anything I could to help make your stay better. Also, I have a very flexible cancellation fee, so guests who are not happy can cancel with no charge to them.

  • Maggie was simply the best. I stayed only two nights in Milwaukee, but plan to visit again. I will definitely be staying at Maggie's lovely home next time as well.
Her home is relaxed and spacious with an eclectic vibe. She is a lovely woman living in a very cool area. Thanks again Maggie, and come visit me in Chicago !

  • Maggie was wonderful, very warm and welcoming. Her home is eclectic, comfortable and clean. I enjoyed the neighborhood. It was easy to access cafes and the green bus line and a beautiful walk to the Lake.

  • Had a really nice stay there. I didn't meet Maggie unfortunately, but despite that everything went smoothly and I had a lovely time.

  • Maggie is a wonderful host! Her home is lovely and in a nice neighborhood that is close to many places worth visiting. She was helpful in suggesting things for us to do. She was also extremely warm and generous - the friend I was traveling with wasn't feeling well due to something she ate and Maggie graciously made us some hot tea to help with the cramps. The house is close to a couple museums such as the Charles Allis & Villa Terrace Art Museums, the lake, and many other things. Parking is a little tricky in Milwaukee because you need permits but Maggie was accommodating and helped us out with that. If we come back to Milwaukee we would happily stay with her again.

  • Maggie was an extraordinary host; very easy to communicate with and quite knowledgable of the area as well as many other things. The house is very clean with an adorable, eclectic feel. Although there is only one full bath, I never had a problem with sharing a bathroom with the other people staying in the house. The place is nicely located very close to UWM, less than a 10 minute walk to the south side of campus. Many restaurants, bars, and stores are nearby as well. Maggie is a lovely person and her home is just as lovely.

  • Overall my husband and I had a nice stay with Maggie. We wanted to be close to the UWM campus, and boy we got what we asked for.....if you are a light sleeper, this is NOT the place for you on a weekend night: people are outside partying until 2am, and the thin windows let you hear everything that's going on for two blocks around, no matter which room you're in. The full-size futon had a comfy side and a hard side, but it would probably be fine for just one person. Parking right in front of the house was super easy. We will probably choose a less expensive place further from the undergrads on our next visit.

  • Maggie's place is beautiful in a neighbourhood very convenient to the University, but also with good access the lakefront and shopping areas. It is close to bus stops into town and Maggie has bikes available for guests. Maggie is an outstanding host. She literally gave me her winter coat/gear to wear while Milwaukee continued to remain close to freezing well into Spring (I was working outdoors). And she's a fantastic cook who has no hesitation in sharing dinner and conversation. If I go to MKE again I know where I'll be staying (if Maggie isn't booked out)!

  • Maggie was a great hostess, and the accommodations were great. Her laid-back attitude and friendly approach was perfect for my friend and I, who were first-time AirBnb users.

Also, the house is super cool and adorned with interesting furniture pieces as well as cool artwork.

I work as the sr. fashion stylist for Kohl's department stores. Which means I create the fashion look of the photograph. I work on teams with photographers, art directors, assistants, tailors, kid wranglers and hair & makeup professionals. I love it and there is never a dull moment. I'm a pretty chill and relaxed person. I have 2 dogs that love to walk to the lake for a swim. I love to cook and have dinner parties for my friends and family. I enjoy movies, food, photography, museums, biking and yoga.
