Southern Comfort near Vondelpark

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Valeriusstraat, Amsterdam, North Holland 1075, Netherlands

The Space

I can offer you a beautiful, large room in an attractive house built in
1910 in the green area of Old South. With balcony. Located on the first floor of my apartment.

The room is nicely decorated with a warm southern atmosphere.
Wi-Fi, DVD, TV, fridge, coffee/tea facilities are available.
There is a comfortable double bed and a possibility for an extra aero bed.
The bathroom is decorated in Mexican style, only shared with me

You can use my kitchen at the ground floor for washing dishes and microwave.

I am sorry, no pets allowed. And smoking only on balcony.

The supermarket is at the corner and nice small shops are nearby for everything you need. So you can easily take your breakfast at your balcony.
There are also several good places and terraces nearby for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Especially Gent aan de Schinkel is great for a romantic dinner on the terrace at the canal with a lot different Belgian beers.

Don't forget to visit the patisserie Arti Choc with an extensive selection of nearly 50 types of chocolates and truffles, made with the best ingredients.

Located near the Vondelpark, Concertbuilding and Musea. Only 5
minutes away by tram 2 or 16 from the centre. Nightbuses available.
Hiring a bike is of course the best way to see Amsterdam, like we locals do.

Very close to the lively, multicultural Albert Cuyp streetmarket with delicious Dutch treats, clothes and food.
And the fashionable shops of the Cornelis Schuytstraat and the wealthy P.C. Hooftstraat are within walking distance.

Also nearby is a complete different Amsterdam, the business district, the South Axis, with plenty of modern architecture.

If you want to relax, you can visit the local pool in art deco style. Or go the famous Vondelpark with several nice terraces and restaurants. Enjoy your jogging there, watching people or picknicking.

Not far from my house, you can find the Amsterdam Forest; nice to walk and bike there. You can hire a canoe or kayak and inside the park is a goat-farm with delicious homemade food, a pancake restaurant and an outdoor theatre.
Take a small ferry and bike via Nieuwe Meer (New Lake) back to your accomodation.

I live in this house since 1993 and work as a tv-journalist in Hilversum near Amsterdam.
Check in time can be arranged after consultation with my partner Leo. He can come to my house to let you in during daytime..

I hope to offer you a warm, cosy atmoshere, where you feel welcome and comfortable, with the privacy you need.
I'll be pleased to inform you about the cultural events and hot spots in Amsterdam.

I speak English, German and a some French.

Teresa, Rachel and Laura, thank you so much for your nice (website hidden) sweet from you,
I am very happy with it and he has got a special place in my sitting room.

  • Henreitte has been the most wonderful and amazing host. I was truly moved by her kind gestures throughout my stay.

Her place is situated near the museum quarter with many attractions such as the Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw, etc. It is not difficult to get around because the tram station is right at her doorstep.

Her place is highly recommended!! :)

  • Henriette and her partner are super nice, kind and really helpfull. We enjoyed a lot being their place. Good location, very close to the tram station, supermarket at the corner, nice cafes everywhere. You can rent bikes very close to the appartement (9 EUR/24 hours) so you can feel yourself as a real Dutch.

  • I can thoroughly recommend Henriette's place. It's comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated.

The location is great, but then I'm biased as I live just round the corner :)

As she says in her review of me I was staying because my place was being renovated. Not only would I be happy to come back, but I also feel I have meet interesting friends in Henriette and Leo.

  • Henriette was a very nice host. She and Leo were cordial, helpful and even offered necessary guidance to spend time in Amsterdam.
They kept things orderly, clean and accessible.
One evening, I came back while they're having a private gathering. They took even effort and time to offer a pleasant night with drinks.
They also helped to take a print when I bought a ticket from the net.

Overall, I had a very comfortable and pleasant stay and recommend for people looking for stay in Amsterdam.

  • Wonderful hospitality, beautiful room and excellent location!
I would recommend Henriette's place to anyone! Easy to get everywhere and she provides lots of help resources for the traveler. Very helpful to have the refrigerator, kettle, hair dryer, and Wifi conveniences. I was there six nights and it felt like home each day as I returned from touring. Henriette and Leo are excellent hosts.

  • I feel as if I was blessed to be able to book with Henriette! Honestly, everything was better than what I had expected. She and Leo were wonderful hosts, incredibly helpful and just very lovely people.
The room was beautiful, full of light and very cosy as well.
And the location was just prime - there was a grocery store just around the corner and the bus and tram stops were very near too.

    On reviendra.

  • Henriette and his partner Leo is very kind&sweet. They are very helpful. They give all the information that you need. The house is comfortable. It is 2 or 3 minutes to Vondelpark. And after walking through that amazing park, you will be in the city center ( museum area >>Museumplein ) within 10 minutes.
The house and the room that you stay has a cozy style. You all have the water heater + tea&caffe'+ heineken beer+waffle offered by Henriette:) There is also a small fridge in the room. There is a market & bakery near by the house. Take the tram number 2 or 16 for the transportation.

Amsterdam is amazing. The weather is cold but the people and the style of living is so hot :))) Enjoy it!!!

About
Hello, I am Henriette, living in Amsterdam since 1983 on several places. I was born in Eindhoven, in the South of Holland and studied at the University of Nijmegen and Amsterdam, political science and film-science. Many years I worked as a film/video/performance programmer in theatres. Since 1990 I am working as a TV journalist and now for many years for a current affairs program. I love my work. And I really enjoy going to arthouse movies, experimental cinema, music and dance. Traveling and seeing other cultures makes me happy, as well as meeting my family, eating with friends and biking with my partner. I already have a B&B since 1999. I like it so much..it enriches my life meeting all kinds of different people. I have no experience with AirBnB..so I am curious.
