About This Listing
Bushwick has become a playground for artists. There is always something going on.
Hello potential guest.
Please bring your own bath towels.
The space is well lit by sunlight, with both A/C and heating. It’s one block from the L train and about 8 blocks to the JMZ trains. Manhattan is 15 minutes by subway. There are several supermarkets, a laundromat, a post office, a liquor store, and many bars and restaurants within a few blocks. There are also dozens of art galleries, as Bushwick is an emerging neighborhood of artists. It is quickly being covered in the national and international media as a hotspot for street art. Search this site to orient you to the neighborhood: bushwickdaily.
And hey, you couldn't stay in a hostel in Jersey for this cheap!
What’s your story? Tell me a little about yourself and why you’re visiting NYC.
All the delights of Bushwick. Also a short 15 minute ride on the L train to Manhattan.
Interaction with Guests
I love meeting new people. I interact as much or as little as they like. I'm a very open person.
Take care of our home as you would your own.
Leave it as clean as when you found it--meaning take out any trash and clean any dishes used. This is why we don't charge a cleaning fee.
Shwan is a great guy! Our stay was really pleasant, it was a nice first Air BnB experience, and I would definitely repeat it!
Shwan made us feel welcome in the apartment and it was almost like having the place to ourselves. He had to walk throught our room to get to his, but that is not a problem. The flat is also VERY close to the subway, so a great location!
Everyone was very helpful! Definitely recommend staying here! :)
PS: The internet wasn't working at the time of my stay but it isn't Shwan fault :( The neighbourhood was being rezoned...
We arrived a bit later than expected and Shawn's friend who was to let us in had to leave the keys at the corner grocery store. So we discovered the flat by ourselves. We were quite disappointed as it had little to do with the appealing photos we saw online (most of the cool art has disappeared), and it was not very clean (dust and hair on the bedroom and bathroom floor, sticky table in the kitchen, and I had to scrub the bathtub before taking a shower, hopefully the bedsheets were clean). On top of that the wifi was not working. We sent messages to Shawn to try to have it fixed. He never answered and we thought we would be by ourselves for the rest of our stay until he showed one night at 11pm, three days after our arrival... We didn't talk much but he seems like a nice guy and gave us some tips to visit the city.
Apart from the above, the flat is conveniently located to discover New York, very close to a subway station and to several shops, restaurants and cafés.
Plusieurs points :
This was a very nice apartment by the inside. Everything seemed clean. Shawn is very nice and does not get in your way. I was not under the impression that I would be sharing the apartment with Shawn-- somehow I thought the deal was that I would get the apartment to myself, although this was my misunderstanding. It was not a problem sharing the apartment with Shawn, though. He did have to walk through my bedroom to get in and out of his bedroom, which may be a point to consider for people who want privacy.
Our trip was different than orginally planned (so we only stayed 2 nights in stead of 7) but we were very excited about the neighbourhoud of Shawn's appartement. If we would have rented something in Manhattan, that would have been a loss, because then we probably wouldn't have discovered all those nice places in Brooklyn. We only saw Shawn once. We planned to see each other more but then our plan turned out in another way.
This appartement might be perfect for young people, students or people just looking for a place to sleep while exploring New York. Only a 15min ride (subway) from Manhattan.
Shawn's place was very cool. He basically left the house to us, the two hosts, except for the last night. The description was truthful, the location very close to the subway station so it was really easy to get to center city. Shawn welcomed us in a very friendly way and we had a great time.
About the Host, Shawn & Miriam
Bushwick. It's great. My wife and I are both artists. I'm a writer and she's a graphic artist. Married only three years, but combined we have 16 years in New York. We divide our liesure time between dinner parties, back yard and rooftop BBQs, gallery and museum shows, live music, and bike riding--the best way to explore Brooklyn.
We are avid travelers and love meeting new and interesting people from all walks of life.
