We had a wonderful time at Simona's house near Greve. The location was perfect, not far from town with a million dollar view. A covered patio and BBQ allowed us to eat outside for many meals. Inside was clean and functional, you can't expect all the amenities of big city life in a rural setting like this. We used this place as our hub to visit all around Tuscany, we drove to the smaller towns and Siena, took a very convenient train from Figline to Florence twice.
Our main complaint was that the airconditioner in the bedroom upstairs didn't work . When we were met by Lorenzo, Simona's husband he turned on a fan unit in the bedroom but with 37 degree heat AC would have made for much more comfortable sleeping. In addition the mattresses were not comfortable. Overall a great experience, living in the Tuscan countryside was an amazing experience.
Very nice stone house in the Chianti region. We really loved the week we spent there.
The house is small, but we didn't need anything bigger for the 4 of us, especially when eating outside on the terrace.
We were welcomed by Simona's husband who was very nice to us even though he had to wait while we struggled in traffic jam.
The house is located a very short drive away from Greve In Chianti which has places to shop, nice eateries, etc... and in the heart of Tuscany, perfect to visit San Gimignano, Siena, Firenze, ...
The house is near the road, which makes it easy to come and go quickly, but can also bring a bit of noise in the mornings and evenings, but it's not too bad.
Our 3 member family enjoyed 2 weeks in this charming Tuscany stone house. Simona, our hostess, was active in contacting us before arrival and her husband Lorenzo welcomed us and introcuded the place.
Because it was exceptionally hot weather ( +36...39C) in Tuscany, Lorenzo set up the air conditioner in to bedroom after first week. That gave us little extra relief against the heat. The house is very homely and atmospheric but the Wifi would be great additional benefit to get info about services and POIs around and to provide the vital social network for a teenage girl :-)).Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and we can definitely recommend this house to others.
Great house in perfect central location – central location within Chianti Classico area and close to all sights.
Only 6 mins driving to the next supermarket, which is handy if you want to do your own cooking, which we did. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. Also a barbecue available.
We did not meet Simona personally, but her husband + family was there for arrival with a warm welcome and explained everthing around the house.
The house was very clean when we arrived.
View is great and garden really nice and big. Our kids loved it. Also ist nice in the evenings, as the terrace is sunny until late (in May this was until 20:00).
House in summer is good, as it does not heat up quickly, but as with old renovated stone houses in mist cases: it can get dark if there is no su at daytime.
We had an issue with the shower and sent an SMS to Simona and there was immediate response and help, so this was really nice and we felt taken care of.
The things worth mentioning are:
- the house is really close to a street going up the hills from greve. Ist not a main roadbut especially on weekend there are lots of motorcycle drivers. If you expect a house in total quietness in the Tuscan hills then its not the case. But on the other side it allows fast access to get around – no driving on a dirt road for ages…
- the two bedrooms in the upper floor (one with double for parents and one with a bunk bed are separated by walls which do not close all the way to the ceiling. In other words: its not 100% soundproof. This might be distracting if you are two couples or – in our case – if you have children, that wake up in the morning early and you want to sleep in
- there should be satellite TV, but we did not manage to get any channels other than Italian ones. For us no issue, but for others maybe, as there is also no WLAN , so you feel a bit disconnedted from the rest of the world :-)
In summary we had a great vacation in Chianti with some smaller drawbacks, but nothing dramatic.
Pleasant, small two-story house in Tuscany 40 minutes from Siena and Florence in the Chianti region, with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay though no extra ‘host’ touches provided (no bar of soap in the bathroom, barely enough toilet paper - basically supplying what was left over from a previous guest). Nice large garden in front of the house with a spectacular, quintessential Tuscan view that you can also see from the master bedroom. Great to sit out on the porch for meals and to watch the sunset glass of wine in hand. The town of Greve is a 5 min drive down the hill with a large grocery store, pharmacy, a bunch of cafes, restaurants and bank ATMs.
We had some bad weather and found the interior of the house quite uncomfortable to exist in for any extended period. Chairs and couch were pretty uncomfortable. Nobody ever showed us the heating in the house either and we had to hunt for days to find out how to turn the heating on while it was quite cold in the house. There is also no internet so it was not easy to just send a message to the host and our phones didn’t work. Though TV is listed, there are only Italian broadcasts available, so forget about keeping in touch via BBC, France 24, Sky News, CNN or any of the basic European news channels. They had a satellite dish on the roof but it didn’t work. Some guy came buy after I sent a message to Simona—whom we never saw btw—and there was talk about fixing it but it never happened.
Great spot to use as a base to visit surrounding villages and towns… there is a lot to see and the area is gorgeous but didn’t feel particularly welcomed by host. Clearly a business, nothing more.
This house near Greve is a special place! My wife and I spent 5 nights here in May. The house is beautiful, charming with plenty of space. We love the views from the backyard! Even though there are many fine restaurants in the area, we ate dinner at the house twice because we love the outdoor dining table with the views of the sunset. Simona and her family were wonderful hosts! She gave us valuable insight on where to visit while we were here. I hope to return the house in Greve someday.
