About This Listing
The guest bedroom of this second story duplex overlooks the bustling 11th Street corridor and its shops, cafes, and restaurants, but feels remarkably peaceful and detached from all the hubbub outside. The full-size bed sports a memory foam pillow top mattress. The shared spaces of the house are the bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, and expansive front porch from which you can sip a cocktail and watch the sun set over the Capitol.
Within easy walking/biking distance are the following: Franklin Barbecue, the East Side Kings food trailer at the Liberty Bar, the Blanton Museum of Art on the UT Campus, Trailer Space (record store), the George Washington Carver museum and library, the lovely and historic French Legation, Beerland, the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz, and countless other places to feed and amuse yourself. I have a single-speed Raleigh bicycle available for your use, but if you decide to bring a car, which you will most likely not need in this area, there is a dedicated parking space conveniently situated underneath a large shade tree. Public transportation in the area includes Capital Metro buses 2, 4, 6, 21, and 22, the UT Shuttle, and light rail at Plaza Saltillo.
Please note that there is a well-tempered five-year-old cat who resides in this home. When he is not asleep on the sofa, he is typically outside birdwatching.
Guests will have access to all common areas of the house: living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and front porch.

Our neighborhood is very central. It's easy to walk or bike to many places. Anything you might possibly need (pharmacy, corner store, yoga studio, cafes, pizza, etc.) is within a stone's throw.
There are two bus stops on our street as well as two bike share kiosks.
No pets, no smoking.
Staying at Melinda's was great! I was in Austin for a conference at UT, and the apartment was very convenient to campus, right in downtown. Unfortunately, Melinda was camping the weekend I came and I was not able to meet her. She made the apartment very accommodating for me in her absence. She left granola bars, coffee, fruit, and bottled water, and made sure I knew where everything was. I definitely recommend staying with Melinda, and would do so again if I am back in Austin!
Really great place. I was here for one week during SXSW and I have only great things to say about this place. Melinda and Stephan are really great hosts, always ready to help, the place is perfect, great bed, comfy house, nice neighborhood. I would recommend this to everyone and i would love to come back next year.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and thanks to Melinda I'm a firm believer in the concept now. She is a great host and very friendly and accommodating. For example, I arrived very late (after midnight) but Melinda waited up and still took the time to chat, show me the place and go through practical stuff.
The apartment is really nice and clean and the guest bed is very comfortable. For me, it's in a great location with walking distance down to SXSW. If I get the opportunity to go back, I'd love to stay with Melinda and Stefan again.
I was in Austin for a wedding and stayed at Melinda and Stefan's place. I couldn't have made a better choice. They were the perfect hosts. Welcoming, caring and helpful in every possible way. Moreover, they have a beautiful house, decorated with great taste. No doubt I will return to their place when visiting Austin.
We absolutely loved our stay here and Melinda was a perfect host- friendly, helpful and generally full of good vibes! The apartment was spacious and well located, clean and beautifully decorated, just like the photos. We'd definitely stay here again, thanks so much!

Definitely the best place to stay in Austin. Melinda and Stephan went out if their way to make me comfortable, and the place is in a great part of town.

About the Host, Melinda
I have lived in Austin since 1995, with a three-year stint in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in East Austin since 2004. My favorite places to visit are the Davis Mountains and Chinati Hot Springs in West Texas, the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, and the California coast. The qualities of home that I appreciate most are comfort, tidiness, quiet, good natural light, fresh air, and an overall feeling of warmth. When traveling, I equally enjoy camping and staying in old historic hotels, depending on my destination. Photo by Leon Alesi.
