About This Listing
Located on the third floor of a quiet street in a Victorian house, this big beautiful room has a queen sized bed, a private bathroom and kitchenette. It's a fantastic room for students and/or tourists who want a quiet place to rest after a long day!
Welcome to our home! The room is very large and furnished with a comfortable queen tempurpedic bed and desk. Although one review says there was no private bathroom (mine was being repaired at the time, which is why it was shared) there IS a private bathroom. You also will have access to the rest of the house, including the living room, dining room, kitchen, back yard and roof deck. There is also a private entrance you can you. I leave fruit and granola for breakfast in the room, but if you would like something different please let me know!
Cambridge is an wonderful town with lots to see and explore. Our house is located a 5 minute walk from the Porter Sq train station on the Red Line and is close to lots of shops and restaurants. I also have 2 bikes which you are welcome to borrow to explore the city.
I am a friendly 28 year old teacher and happy to show you around and give you suggestions of where to go and what to see. In the house (it's a 5bed/4bath) live my parents, who are professors and love meeting new people, and my roommate who is a graduate student at Harvard. We look forward to meeting you!
Separate entrance, their room, private bathroom, kitchenette (mini-fridge, microwave, hot plate)
Interaction with Guests
My parents and I live in the house as well and have had renters staying with us for a while. Some renters like to hang out and have meals with us, others keep to themselves more, especially if they have a lot of studying to do.
5 minute walk to Porter Sq, on a quiet residential street in cambridge.
trains and buses are very close
Just be thoughtful. For example, picking up after yourself if you use the deck or kitchen.
I stayed the house for about three months. Henry and Catalina, Monica&Marco's parents, are great hosts! They warmly invited me to the welcome and farewell dinner. They were very friendly and always respected my private life. The room is spacious and beautiful, and you can enjoy sunshine!! Thanks to this comfortable stay, I was fully able to concentrate on my study. I deeply appreciate it!!
This was my first time doing AirBnb and it was such a great experience! From the moment I walked from the T station to their house I knew I was in the right place. The neighborhood was cute and there were people always walking around, even on the snowy days. There was a great neighborhood market a block away. Catalina (Marco & Monica's mom) was such a wonderful host. The room I stayed in was different than the room on AirBnb (I think there was some construction happening on the other side of their home) but it was exactly the room I needed to stay in and I loved it even more. There was a microwave and mini fridge in the room. Catalina brought me a set of dishes and a electric tea kettle and made sure I had everything I needed. I also had wonderful conversation too. If I needed anything and she wasn't home, she was easy to get a hold of. I would definitely recommend this airbnb rental.
Monica and her parents were extremely friendly and accommodating. They welcomed us warmly and even invited us to anything in their kitchen. The room and bed were comfortable. The bathroom was sparkling clean. The neighborhood is glorious and an easy walk to Harvard Square (and just a few blocks from Porter Square). There is a faint cat smell but it's not bad. I highly recommend it and would certainly return if I'm in the Cambridge area again.
A very clean and beautiful house with a very hospitable host family. There are so many artistic pictures in the house it feels like being in an art hotel.
The room was very good, Very spacious, clean and decorated nicely. The room has a full customizable closet with drawers, handing space and plenty of shelves. It also had a TV - which was a nice addition-.
There were also mini-fridge and tea kettle with an assortment of teas ( although I have not used either)
Monica was very helpful and she even picked me up from the train station as she was in the area.
Her parents are also very helpful and gladly answered my questions about directions and transportations.
I had a minor issue with the internet which Monica resolved but I noticed the connection was a tiny bit slow. It might be that I'm used to my Fios speedy connection at home.
Overall, I recommend you stay at this place and you won't be disappointed.
Monica's house is beautiful and in an amazing location, the room is huge and has stereo, tv, a desk and a private bathroom. Monica was really nice and kind, she was really helpful and patient when I asked her for advices about every kind of stuff and even when I had some problem with my flight. I totally recommend her for staying in Cambridge!
My stay with Monica and her parents in Cambridge was just perfect. Monica was extremely helpful and responded immediately, whenever I needed advice or any help. She lent me a bike which made it very easy to get around in Cambridge. Everyone in the beautifully art-decorated house was just extremely friendly, easy going and went out of their way to make sure I had a great time; I thus felt like part of the family right from the start. The place itself is just beautiful with a great roof-top terrace, and is fully equipped to make yourself at home. I enormously enjoyed my stay there and I will definitely make sure that whenever I come back to Cambridge/Boston, I will stay with Monica again!

About the Host, Monica (& Marco)
Welcome to the Cambridge Karma house!
We, Mónica and Marco, wanted a name that embodies our feelings and philosophy around hosting, and essentially it is about karma- the notion that our actions and intentions will come back to us and influence our future, whether they be positive or negative. Karma is similar to the golden rule of “treat others the way you want to be treated." We believe that this is a good way to go through the world and attempt to always practice this with our guests. We will treat you with love, kindness and respect, and we expect the same from our guests--that they treat the hosts, other guests in the house, and the space itself, with respect and kindness.
Hosting is an absolute pleasure for us and we look forward to meeting you! Please let us know if you need anything or have questions. Mónica is starting a farm-to-table bilingual Spanish English cafe in East Boston called La Sanghita (check us (email hidden)!) and Marco is taking time off from zir's doctoral program in medical anthropology to, among other things, meet zir's athletic goals and be an effective transgender activist. Marco is in process of becoming the main manager of the Karma House; thus, please direct your questions and/or concerns toward Marco.
You will likely meet Tom, the WORLD'S best contractor! His work is essential to the house because it's very old, built in 1887, and is in need of constant repairs. Tom is also a pottery teacher, astrologer, and owner of La Sanghita Cafe. Finally there is Claudia, who has been cleaning for our family for many years. She is an incredible cleaner but most importantly an incredible person! She's from Colombia and also an excellent Spanish teacher!
We are a very friendly and caring team so please let us know if we can make your stay more comfortable. ¡Welcome to the Karma House, Bienvenid@s a la Casa de Karma!
A Note on Parking: Due to the limited availability of parking in Cambridge, we suggest you not bring a car. If you do, we have 1 visitors parking pass available; however, **please** check with Marco to see if it is free (it is highly prized and often unavailable!)
