Cabin - Entire home/apt · Hao St, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740, United States

The ohana is located next to the house, snuggled among the hapu. A handcrafted hanging bamboo curtain offers privacy for both the ohana's outdoor shower and the lanai.

The Space

Private Cottage tucked away in the hapu of the Big Island on a 3 acre forested and remote homesite. At a cool 2600 feet above the ocean, with a beautiful ocean view from the lanai. The cottage is a single story effieciency with a king bed and queen size futon, kitchen, dining area, and full bath. An outdoor shower, and lanai help make the the ohana an extra special retreat. The kitchen has a full size sink, full size refrigerator/freezer, large toaster oven, microwave, 2 induction cook tops, coffee grinder & maker, and all the dishes/cookware you could possibly need. A variety of condiments on hand make cooking a tastier endeavor. A full size propane BBQ pit on the lanai includes a cooktop. Expansive yard and gardens surround the home, and 4 beautiful Mouflon. Just minutes from Kailua-Kona, the airport, the marina, golfing, and many beaches. Enjoy all of Kona, and escape back to the quiet Hawaiian cottage for rest and relaxation.

Kona Mountain Cottage is a short walk from hiking/biking trails that run through the Honualua forest reserve. Mountain Thunder Coffee is also just up the road and they sell great coffee and give free tours nearly daily. Holualoa, a small art and cafe town is a beautiful short drive away.

Our cottage comes with 4 large beach towels, 2 boogie boards, a cooler, and snorkel gear for 2. The closest beach, Kua Bay, is only 15 minutes away and is a treat for any beach goer. After heading to the beach enjoy our outdoor shower sheltered by a bamboo curtain.

Kaloko, our community, is a eco minded community. The development was only permitted with larger tracts and forest preservation. Kaloko is quiet, secluded, and peaceful, but a very short distance (10 min drive) from Kailua-Kona shops, restaurants, and markets. Costco is our closest grocery store, but Safeway, KTA and Sac-n-Save are an easy drive as well.

We look forward to sharing Kona Mountain Cottage with you!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Kona mountain cottage! Beautiful lush setting in a quiet neighborhood, just 15 mins from Kailua town. Highly recommend this well-run, comfortable rental unit!

  • I am glad we stayed at the cottage and would like to come back. The location is peaceful and secluded. My son liked the amenities, privacy and talking with the sheep. I was happy cooking breakfasts and using the BBQ. This location was one of the highlights of our trip. Laura was very easy to communicate with and went above my expectations to make us comfortable! This is a good, easy choice for a cottage.

  • We had such a relaxing vacation in the cottage. Thanks Laura! We found the location to be very peaceful, but also not a far drive from downtown Kona and the marina for diving. The cottage came equipped with everything we could want. It was particularly nice to have a good TV and big grill in on the back deck. Overall a great trip and we hope to stay again!

  • My husband and I stayed at the Kona Mountain Cottage for 6 days. Indeed it is secluded and quiet! It had everything we needed to prepare our meals. We walked up the road to the local coffee plantation for our morning coffee, which was such a treat! The sun only shines in the morning, then the clouds roll in for the rest of the day. It is a long drive to town/the beach so a car is a must.

  • What a great place! Clean comfortable with new supplies in the kitchen! We loved borrowing the boogie boards and snorkel gear. The location is in a wonderful location up on the mountain. Very private. We will come back for sure. Thanks Laura!

    Response from Laura:

You are welcome, Liz, and thank you. Gudrun sure enjoyed meeting you and your friends, too. Thanks for choosing KMC!

  • Before my trip, Laura sent me a personal email to welcome me, even she was in TX, that makes me feel great. The cottage is in a very nice area, very well maintained, fully equipped. The curtain and comforter cover are made with Batik fabric, which looks really nice. The cottage has refrigerator, sink and all the small applliances, it does not have stove inside, but there is a BBQ grill outside that we can use to cook. I only prepare breakfast on my vacation, so it does not bother me. The main house and cottage are on 1 acre lot, the landscape is beautiful. I had great time picking the avocado, meeting the sheeps on the rural far 2 acre backyard. Definitely great place for family.

  • Very nice and clean cottage. Excellent view. Everything was as mentioned in the ad and the description of the property.

The host was prompt in responding to emails and phone calls.

Overall, definitely would recommend the place.

  • We loved this little cottage. It was even better than advertised -- spacious, airy, nicely-furnished and spotless inside, situated in a quiet secluded neighborhood with lush foliage. It has a very nice feel to it. We especailly enjoyed the open air porch (or is it lanai) for reading, eating and watching the sunset and evening sky. Laura was the perfect host, quick to respond to questions beforehand, helping us get situated in Kona and directing us to a running trail in the nearby forest reserve, available when needed but unobtrusive. We hope to return some day.
