The space

Welcome y'all! You will love staying in this beautiful Mid-Century House in historic Travis Heights. It is an oasis in the fun city of Austin and so close to all the fun spots that you should visit while you are in town.

I'm happy to have guests and will do my best to make you comfortable and give you tips on fun places to visit and eat! Tucked away in a quiet friendly neighborhood, this home is surrounded by Live Oak trees but only steps from the funky happenings on Congress Street.

Staying here you will be walking distance from fun spots such as Home Slice (the best pizza in Austin), Joe's Coffee (fantastic people watching), Hotel San Jose (one of my favorite spots for an evening glass of wine), Lucy in the Sky (you can never have too many costumes!), the Continental Club and more.

It is conveniently located close to downtown as well as East 6th St. (the Williamsburg of Austin) with all the cool new bars and restaurants. You can easily walk to Stacy Pool - the neighborhood outdoor pool (free and open year round, heated in the winter). The pool is located within Big Stacy Park which has beautiful walking path along Blunn Creek.

Built in the 1970s and recently renovated it is a blend of vintage design and modern comfort. The house is furnished with a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture and art that I have collected over the years. Art installations and arrangements in unexpected spots will bring a smile to your face. It is a great spot for relaxing and unwinding with trees all around.

Perfect for food lovers, the kitchen is equipt with stainless steel appliances and everything you need to create an amazing meal: Cuisinart Food Processor, KitchenAid Mixer, great knives, and even an ice cream maker! You can have your meals al fresco on the deck under the trees to really appreciate this amazing spot.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole house- kitchen , sunny deck, cozy living room and a washer and dryer.

Interaction with guests

I'm happy to give you pointers about the neighborhood, suggestions for places to eat and go out! I love meeting new people and look forward to helping you find your favorite spots.

House is clean, well equiped and in a quiet residential area at 10 min walking to restaurants. Melissa suggests what to do and is friendly. I would return next time.

I stayed at Melissa's place during SXSW. If for whatever reason (availability, cost) you can't stay within walking distance of the convention center, then you should absolutely, absolutely stay with her! She was an amazing host who went above and beyond the call of duty, and offered me snacks and advice throughout my stay. I definitely felt as if I were staying with a friend. Her house is gorgeous, spotless, and exactly as advertised. The immediate blocks are residential, but Congress Street (with a ton of restaurants) is an easy 15-minute walk, and downtown (under normal non-SXSW circumstances) is an $8-10 cab ride. I would absolutely stay here again if I were visiting Austin.

Melissa was an awesome host. Her flat is inspiring and filled with all of her artistic creations. Definitely a quieter neighborhood in Austin, and a very quick and easy trip into downtown.

Not a real bed with box springs and mattress. That said, the host did purchase a foam cover that made this furniture more comfortable. Great to be in Travis Heights, and host made us feel welcome into her home.

I stayed with Melissa in Austin for SXSW - a busy time for Austin and a difficult time for visitors to find accommodation! The house was everything I had hoped - beautiful, calm, private and comfortable. Melissa was the perfect host. On the first night she invited me for dinner with her and a friend - so welcoming. She gave me some great tips for my trip and made me feel like a housemate rather than a guest (exactly what I wanted). She even provided teas and breakfast for me. The daily trip to the Convention Center (main spot for SXSW) was a bit of a walk but I enjoyed the stroll in the sunshine, walking past Jo's on South Congress to get a drink most mornings. Travis Heights is a peacful, residential area which allows guests to feel they are living as a local. Nearby SoCo is a great neighbourhood and Downtown isn't too far away. Definitely recommend!

Melissa's place made for a great, peaceful SXSW homebase. It was far enough away from the action downtown to be a good, quiet escape at the end of the day and close enough to not be inconvenient. The space is very clean and modern, with a great patio area to boot. Melissa was more than happy to help me out with great tips so I could sound like an Austin local too - definitely a nice stay!
