My first Airbnb experience couldn't have been better. The room is spacious, the mattress one of the most comfortable I have slept on (well, after the first 5 minutes anyway :), and the house in general is very well organized. The neighborhood is great, with great options for food, and good bars, and is close to the city (about 20 minutes).
Melonie is one of the most loving hosts one can hope to find. She was very caring, and in spite of her very busy schedule, took out time to make sure I was comfortable (providing me blankets, food, etc.). I am not a big fan of dogs, but her dogs are so cute that I found myself petting them constantly. Whenever I visit NY, I am surely staying at her place. Good luck Melonie, and see you soon!
Staying at Mel’s was like a home away from home. Our room was clean, had plenty of space for two people, and was exceptionally comfortable (TempurPedic mattress!!!). The room also had a mini fridge, which was great for storing snacks and leftovers. The apartment itself is a wonderful space. It’s large and full of natural light. We loved waking up and making coffee surrounded by windows. Mel was an amazingly gracious and genuine host. We felt completely welcome from the moment she opened the door for us. Mel was eager to give us tips for getting around and even lent us her member card for a museum to help us bypass the massive holiday lines. We would absolutely stay with Mel again when we visit Brooklyn next.
Mel and Jeremy are the best host ever, they made my staying in NYC even more awesome! You will have your privacy but when you need help they will always be there. Room is as described, very close to the subways, nice neighborhood.
Mel was great - very easy to set up the key exchange and welcoming to me and my mom. My mom stayed at Mel's for several days and had a nice time.
our first airbnb experience could not have been better, melonies place is just lovely, really cozy and the best place to come home to after a long day in manhattan. the neighbourhood is beautiful, we actually spent one day just walking around there. you'll find many supermarkets, restaurants and other stores close by and the connection to manhattan is perfect (we first thought, it might be a little bit far from everything, but it's not!), 7-10 minutes walking to the subway/trains, 20 mins to manhattan. the apartment and the room are really beautiful and most of all: quiet. melonie&jeremy are great hosts, funny and really helpful, and the two dogs are just too cute! we completely fell in love with new york and I think a big part of that was melonies apartment - thank you!
The listing was quite accurate & the people who talk about the comfortable bed are right. It was really convenient for us and even though there was a problem with the keys it was handled smoothly. Much easier check-in than when we last stayed at an official b&b! The neighborhood is really enjoyable- close to Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, etc and Franklin Ave has tons of restaurants and coffee spots to choose from. Melonie & Jeremy were both very welcoming and although we spent very little time in the apartment I certainly got the impression they are excellent hosts.

Five things (ok, seven things) I can't live without:
1. Meeting new and interesting people
Overall I'd have to say our place is one of warmth and comfort; a definite home away from home. I feel it's really important to treat people how you'd like to be treated, especially when traveling! What does that mean? Hot coffee or tea in the morning, NY bagels or muselli with yogurt, a clean, quiet room to rest your weary head from long day of walking the city and lots of help.
After living in and travelling much of southeast Asia the past year, I learned how what sharing and hosting were all about from a completely different perspective. So opening up our apartment just feels natural I guess.
Life Motto: Life is not a journey to the grave arriving in a beautiful and well kept body...but to skid in sideways thoroughly exhausted and totally disheveled loudly yelling, : WOW! WHAT A RIDE!!!"
