Wow. Luigi has >100 5-star reviews for a reason! He is an incredible host, and the loft apartment is in a perfect location to explore and enjoy Matera. Luigi went out of his way several times to help me, and has a very helpful book of local recommendations and past guests' tips, as well as maps, guidebooks, etc. Just note that it's a futon mattress, so it might be a little harder than you're used to.
Thank you, Luigi! I really enjoyed my stay in Matera!
Our great regret about booking this flat is that we only stayed two nights. The Sassi are so special that we wanted more time to soak up their strange magic, the people who prevented their demolition should be national heroes. The flat is in a very quiet location, on the winding streets behind the Duomo, with a stunning view of the mountain caves and two of the major cave churches. It has everything you need, lots of space, and is a very private and restful place to come back to after lots of step climbing. There's a supermarket on Piazza Sedile and we cooked a few meals at home. Luigi and the cats live underneath; Luigi was a kind, easy-going host and gave us help with directions, transport suggestions, recommendations for eating, and a fresh loaf of bread. He was very flexible about arrival/departure times too. We would gladly stay in this flat again & hope to return to this fascinating place soon. We went to Amalfi afterwards & the restaurant staff looked furious when my girlfriend told them Matera was the most beautiful city in the South!
Luigi wasn't around when we visited Matera, but he had asked his friend Rafaella to help out. She met us near the Cathedral and took us to our room. The place was amazing and there was sufficient food (breakfast) and arrangements done already for the following 2 days.
We loved our stay in Matera. Luigi was kind enough to meet us at the train station and showed us places to shop and eat on the way to the apartment. The views in the Sassi were breathtaking and the apartment was very comfortable. We really appreciated the Matera bread and other goodies that were left for us! Thanks so much, Luigi! We highly recommend staying here!
L'appartamento è stupende e molto confortevole !
Luigi informed us 3days before arrival that the parking would not be available that was listed in his description free of charge. At that time I wanted to cancel but his policy is stringent to be cancelled 5 days in advance. We were not feeling well but went anyways due to not wanting lose out on our investment. The walk was really far, he did help us but it did not help that we were ill. I wish Luigi would have informed us earlier due to the parking being blocked for the entire month. The apartment was fine in appearance and was comfortable, water was a bit cold but Luigi fixed it the next day. We were hoping to get healthier during our stay but that did not happen. I hope one day to go back to Matera, it seems to be wonderful place, just next time I will ensure good parking and good communication beforehand.
Luigi's loft is clean and comfortable, with wide views of the sassi and a great location. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need, and the bed it particularly comfortable. I enjoyed having occasional visits from the cats. I definitely recommend this place, also for longer stays in matera!
