We have visited Matera several times, but never used Airbnb there and often stayed in the new part of the city. What an incredible experience it was to stay in the sassi! Luigi's apartment felt like home and he was an exceptional host. Very helpful and kind. His house is in a central location and has a fantastic view of the city and gravina. Can't recommend Luigi's place enough!
We loved Matera, and Luigi's lovely home made for a perfect stay. It is in a real sasso or cave, but modern, comfortable, and cozy. We loved the view from the deck, easy access to the most fascinating parts of town, and quiet at night. And of course the tre gatti! We felt as if we had traveled back in time. Luigi was so helpful and courteous, even carrying my bag for me up the stone steps. We hope to return some day.
Evviva Matera!
What can I say about Luigi’s apartment? It’s so much more than just a place, though it is a wonderfully warm and efficient place. Luigi has thought of everything to make a traveler comfortable: a well- stocked kitchen and bathroom, plenty of well-placed lights – including motion sensor lights at the entrance so you can find your way in the dark, a washing machine, and a book chock full of tips and information on Matera. The keys are even colour-coded.
The location is even more spectacular than I expected. I knew I’d have a view to the Sassi. But the view of the barren wildness of the cliffs across the ravine was a wonderful surprise. One afternoon a herd of cattle grazed along the slope, the sound of their bells carrying across to my balcony. And it’s impossible to get permanently lost (though you must get temporarily lost, preferably several times). Just find your way back to the duomo and follow the signs to MUSMA.
But what’s truly wonderful are Luigi and his three feline ambassadors: Rufus, Elio, and Sinis. Luigi met me at the domo to lead me to the apartment where fresh bread waited. He was always available if I had a question and never let me feel as if I were intruding. I’ve never felt so at home in a place that wasn’t mine. Of course, having a cat or three to pet daily helped.
Do book Luigi’s place, and for more than two or three days. (I stayed a week.) The longer you stay, the more wonderful surprises you’ll discover. Grazie, Luigi! Grazie, Rufus, Elio, and Sinis!
Une maison typique très agréable avec une vue magnifique. Un excellent pain de Matera nous attendait sur la table! Merci pour la gentillesse et la disponibilité de Luigi. Un endroit à découvrir.
Luigi's apartment is awesome in an amazing city! Luigi is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. He really assisted us with the transportation system as the trains do not run on Sunday! Beware! The loft is full of sun and has beautiful views! luigi's cats are friendly and will visit you! grazie Luigi!
