Modern and stylish architect-designed apartment right in the heart of Amsterdam! The perfect base to explore the city, but beware: once you lie back in one of the loungers and turn on the home cinema system you won't want to leave!

The Space

Situated on the historic Singel canal this apartment couldn't be more central and is 100m2 arranged over two floors.

The ground floor comprises one huge open-plan kitchen, dining, living and sleeping area. Fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, dishwasher. Dining table seats 8 people. Living space includes large leather sofa and two loungers, stereo system and home cinema for television and movie watching.

Upstairs mezzanine level has home office space with high-speed Wi-Fi, second sleeping area, bathroom and door leading to an outside terrace.

This is the perfect base for you to explore the sights of Amsterdam as everything is within walking distance.
There is a bicycle hire shop a few minutes from the apartment, ideal for the full Amsterdam experience, but you might not need a bike as you can do everything on foot!.

The central Leidseplein is a 10 minute walk, Dam Square is 5 minutes and the world-famous flower market (the Bloemmarkt) is 2 minutes from your front door.

I'll also take the chance to mention one other place worth knowing about: Spui Square. One end is lined with cute local bars and restaurants, the other end is the city's main shopping street. In between its all historic buildings, trees and a weekly book fair. Tourists often know Leidseplein, Museumplein, maybe Rembrandtplein, but locals know Spui. Its an under-rated gem, and its 30 seconds from your door. Just an insider's tip for you :)

Note: the listing says we are able to accommodate 4 people, which it can with two double-beds (done it many times when friends are in town). But since its all open-plan I would only recommend it if you're good friends!

Words can't do justice to this apartment so I'll let the pictures do the talking, browse the photos and you'll get a very clear idea of how its all laid out. Fresh linen/towels are all provided as well as tea/coffee/milk/juice etc. It really has everything you will need.

And by the way, the "Architect-designed" bit in the title of this listing is because the building was designed by world-renowned Dutch architect Abel Cahen (you can (website hidden) him for more info!). You might find yourself stepping out of the front door and being met by a group of architecture-fans staring up at the building :)

One final note: this is a non-smoking apartment. Please keep all smoking (of any kind ;) to the coffeeshops and the terraces. Thankyou!

That's it for now, I look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful apartment in this beautiful city!

  • We stayed 3 nights in Ben's flat. We knew Amsterdam already, and we choosed it, as the location is perfect for us. The appartment is great, spacious and beautifully furnished. We enjoyed to share it with the foxy cat and really appreciated the home theater. Ben greeted us and accepted a late departure at our convenience.

  • We really enjoyed staying at Ben's apartment at Singel. The location is just perfect, walking distance to everywhere. Transport from Schipol was also very easy with the two nearby tram stops which takes you to the Central Station. The apartment was very comfortable, big space, home theatre, full equipped kitchen, hot water and easy-use heating system. Ben is a very nice host, greeted and showed us the apartment himself, provided very good recommendations about where to eat. the previous guests left many cosmetics like shampoos and shower gels and Ben kindly bought coffee, fresh milk and a bottle of wine for us so we did not shop at all but if needed a supermarket is available very close. Small terrace available upstairs for a nice morning coffee. Strongly advise this apartment to anyone interested in visiting Amsterdam.

  • Good choice for people who want to feel the spirit of Amsterdam! Perfect location.

  • We spent 4 nights at Ben's beautiful apartment. Here is our review:

Checking In: Ben was very fast getting back to us before we arrived and once after we checked in and had a question. He was a super friendly host at check-in who showed us around the apartment and its amenities. He also answered our many questions about where to eat, life in Amsterdam, etc. Very good experience.

Location: This apartment is a few steps down from the road level beside/under an Italian restaurant. It directly faces the Singel Canal and is in an excellent location. Has lots of natural light. There is a tram stop and grocery store on the corner about 50 feet away. Restaurants are all around the area. We ended up walking everywhere from this very central location. Very safe area.

Apartment: The apartment is beautiful, unique and looks like the pictures online. As shown in the pictures, it does have a number of stairs and platforms that would make it unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. Otherwise, Ben's home comes with a beautiful full kitchen and appliances (dishwasher included). The apartment has a washer but no dryer. Clothes, however, dry quickly on a drying rack by the radiator. The apartment includes wifi. When we arrived the modem switch to the right of the door had been turned off. A flick of the switch and we had great wifi. Ben also allowed us access to his huge movie and TV library. We really could have stayed in the apartment the whole time and enjoyed our trip. But Amsterdam awaited!

The kitchen included some of Ben's spices, oils and coffee which he told us we could use. This is hugely helpful compared to having to buy a whole bottle of pepper for a stay.

It was a wonderful property with an excellent host. We hope to visit again and this property would be our top choice again. Thank you, Ben.

  • The first thing to know about Ben's place is how fantastic the location is! It is right where u need to be near the center of all that is Amsterdam. His home is unusually spacious with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. His multi media set up is an added benefit! (Watched all of season 1 "Breaking Bad"). Very good restaurants and shopping right out the door! Ben was an accommodating and easy to get along with host! Answered all our questions and responded promptly to all our requests.

  • Ben was very welcoming and patient: our 'plane was delayed arriving. His home is superb; we could not have wished for more. The location is excellent and I would recommend a stay at Ben's place to anyone.

  • Was a fantastic place. Truly an amazing house – big and modern. Location is right in middle of town on the canals. Can walk everywhere from this spot.

Ben was very helpful, emailed us with some great ideas for us to do while we’re there, even gave us a bottle of wine when we arrived ! And was also lenient with check out time as we had a late flight.

    Would highly recommend. A++++

  • The most important aspect of a successful business is location, location ,location. This place has it and then some. Right across the canal on your left as you exit the building is one of the best alleys in Amsterdam. Between the bakery, the the frites, the cookies, , the two coffee shops and the ancient cafes at the end; this was a great home base for a week. Ben was awesome. He was there to greet me even though it was a Sunday morning. He showed me where everything was, how to use the electronics, and had a nice folder of things to do. The apartment was perfect. There were 3 of us and it had everything you could need. The beds were soft and comforting. The shower was hot. My Dutch friends who came by said it was huge by Amsterdam standards. They were jealous. I would rent this place again tomorrow if I was heading back. Alas I will have to wait til next year.

Describe myself? Ok, well the first thing is I'm English, which means I'm culturally programmed to avoid talking about myself. Ok, I'll give it a go... I came to Amsterdam nine years ago (wow time flies) and immediately fell in love with the city. If you've been here before you'll know why. The beautiful buildings, the canals, the bikes, the word "lekker", the easy-going atmosphere, the cafe-style living, the girls (Dutch girls are "lekker"), the dozen or more independent movie theatres, the summers... ... I guess in the end I just never left! I work freelance, designing and building websites, and also run an English-language theatre company which I co-founded seven years ago. We perform three shows weekly and run workshops and classes in improvisation and theatre skills. When I'm not working I'm playing sports. Yoga and kickboxing for fitness, tennis and volleyball for fun and the winter is all about skiing! Ok! That's probably enough about me, lets talk about you...
