Balat is one of the most unique areas of Istanbul. Small streets, colourful houses and local people. This is real experience and my place is more for travellers rather than tourist. My house is an old greek house with a nice garden to chill :)
Our house is in Balat / at central location in European side, 10 minutes by bus or tram to all historical peninsula and Taksim area (the heart of Istanbul night life). This friendly and unique neighbourhood has plenty of historical houses, mosques, churches, synagogs, old style shops, cafes, organic food bazaar on weekends.
And a great historic Turkish bath is just 20 steps away to my house - and it is not one of those expensive touristy ones :)
The area where our house is located is one of the main attraction for photographers. The location is also very close to the see (Golden Horn) - so you can have your morning walks seaside.
Our location is just few minutes by walk to bus stops.
The building has 3 floors with a nice garden. Your room is in the ground floor. It has a double bed, a wardrobe and a bed-stand - it's cosy and has a character.
We have fast internet connection, central heating and hot water facilities.
I believe in freedom in our personal choices and appreciate each person for who they are. So here is an LGBT friendly house and I am not interested in your religion :)
I hope you will enjoy your stay in our 130 years old greek house.
we don't have too many rules - just few things:)
1- no food to the cats :) they are great on pretending the they are hungry
2- be sure that you close the garden room when you leave the house
3- we don't tolerate any illegal publications and drugs - don't be a drug but be a queen :)
I think that's all :)
Erhan is a great person and I really enjoyed staying in his home. He and Juli are very accommodating and the room I stayed in was just the perfect thing for me.
I felt very welcomed in his house and al through my staying I had the feeling of being home. Erhan sure knows how to make you feel welcomed and also, he and Juli are great company, both smart, relaxed and very artistic.
The neighbourhood is a very old part of Istanbul, with old buildings and welcoming people. Although being in such a big city I felt like I am in a small community. I am a photographer and I felt in love with the Balat aria for its uniqueness.
All in all I had a great time in Istanbul and that was also due to the great services offered by Ehan and Juli ..... Thank you, Erhan!!!!!... and Thank you Juli !!!
Sorry
thanks Robert for sharing your feelings even if you stayed in my house less than 24 hours. Very much appreciated. So I would like to do the same - sharing my feelings. I want to put a line between negative comments and misleading comments. Negative comments I always take serious and try to improve and respect. But I found most of your comments misleading. For example the size of the room and the cats - all I can do is to put the size of the room in the description clearly and hope people should decide for themselves and let people know that there are two lovely cats living with me here so that they can again decide for themselves if it fits them or not. The size, the cats and the room's being in the ground floor (3 things you are upset) are all written in the description. So my humble advice to you is that a lot of host is trying to do their best and maybe we shouldn't be so harsh on them for the things they have already mentioned in their description because it means that ''this is what I have and come stay with me if you like' - but we should be critical and use feedback mechanism for the things they are hiding and not providing even if they promised. To me, this is fair and definitely not misleading. I truly believe that to have a good experience with Airbnb starts with being clear on your expectations and be honest with yourself on what you really want. So I'm sure you will pick up your next experience more careful. And I am really sorry that you feel bad about your one night experience here. I wish I could change it. Next time be my guest for free and I am sure you will change your mind :) All the best :) Erhan
Erhanc and Juli are both very helpful, careful, kind people. They make my stay in Istanbul a better experience. whenever I have any question, they are willing to help me and give detailed guidance to me. They also offer the maps and recommend some good places in this city.
The house itself is very clean, comfortable and sweet. There are two lovely cats in the house and they are so cute!
Erhan is a great host! I travelled with my baby and he was very helpful from the word go. As I arrived late at night, he helped me with buying things for breakfast, helped bring a taxi to the doorstep the day I had to leave - made me feel very at home. The house that I stayed at is in a very atmospheric, local neighbourhood. Quiet and very charming. It's a bus ride away from Taksim Square and old town. It's a bit of a walk to any cafe or restaurant - but this was probably just inconvenient for me as I was travelling alone with my baby. Not so much of an issue without one! All in all a great stay
Lovely place in beautiful part of Istanbul. Erthan and Rebbeca were very helpful and responsive. I truly hope to visit this charming house again sometime. Urban
Beautiful and cozy flat right in the heart of Istanbul. Erhan and Rebecca are awesome, so much help and so wonderful evenings having tea together in the kitchen! The neighborhood is astonishing, if you are dreaming about understanding everyday Turkish life - this is the place, you'll woke up by a morning pray, then hear the children going to school and you can always have a cup of tasty fresh coffee and fruits in the nearby cafes. Thank you so much for letting us feel this wonderful place with you!

My name is Erhan - I just move to this very traditional neighbourhood. Here is an amazing place if you like old houses, narrow streets and local people :) Balat is the old Armenian and Jewish quarter of Istanbul. So very lovely architecture.
I am working for an international NGO. I am traveling a lot because of my job. My friends are telling me that I am an easy going person. And I love animals, nature (that's why I moved here - now I have a big garden :) -
I can't live without my job, love, friends, family and my cat!
