About This Listing
Balat is one of the most unique areas of Istanbul. Small streets, colourful houses and local people. This is real experience and my place is more for travellers rather than tourist. My house is an old greek house with a nice garden to chill :)
Our house is in Balat / at central location in European side, 10 minutes by bus or tram to all historical peninsula and Taksim area (the heart of Istanbul night life). This friendly and unique neighbourhood has plenty of historical houses, mosques, churches, synagogs, old style shops, cafes, organic food bazaar on weekends.
And a great historic Turkish bath is just 20 steps away to my house - and it is not one of those expensive touristy ones :)
The area where our house is located is one of the main attraction for photographers. The location is also very close to the see (Golden Horn) - so you can have your morning walks seaside.
Our location is just few minutes by walk to bus stops.
The building has 3 floors with a nice garden. Your room is in the ground floor. It has a double bed, a wardrobe and a bed-stand - it's cosy and has a character.
We have fast internet connection, central heating and hot water facilities.
I believe in freedom in our personal choices and appreciate each person for who they are. So here is an LGBT friendly house and I am not interested in your religion :)
I hope you will enjoy your stay in our 130 years old greek house.
we don't have too many rules - just few things:)
1- no food to the cats :) they are great on pretending the they are hungry
2- be sure that you close the garden room when you leave the house
3- we don't tolerate any illegal publications and drugs - don't be a drug but be a queen :)
I think that's all :)
Staying at Erhan's was just perfect for me. The neighbourhood is great: Lively, authentic, still undeveloped and the access to the usual Taksim area is straightforward, by bus.
Erhan is a very friendly host and both he and Juli were very helpful in orientating my arrival and exploration in Istanbul. The house is old and simple, just the way I like it.
It would probably not be suitable for someone who wants modernities and to be staying a breath away from the tourist bustle, but perfect for someone who is looking for some true local character.
We want to say thank you for our luck to stay at such a nice place. In Erhans house we found everything we need. The area around was really beautifull. If you will go there you have to walk around in old greek to enjoy the atmosphere..the small streets, the coulerfull old houses, the friendly people, nice restaurants with traditionell food and everything else. It was very easy to go by bus to public places. The information we got by Juli and Erhan were really helpfull. Both are friendly and open-minded people and it seems that they like what they do and they are interrested that their guests feel comfortable. So, be happy and enjoy life!

Erhan´s house is such a lovely and peaceful place with beautiful garden. Two kittens were a nice bonus. Erhan and his friend Juli gave us useful tips and map of neighborhood. We can definitely recommend this place!
I arrived after midnight at around 2am, but ERHAN still waited for me and helped to give instructions to the taxi driver over the phone, though he had to go to the island to catch up for a meeting in the early morning! After my arrival, he still managed to explain me everything in the house clearly and gave me a very warm greeting! After a few hours sleep, there came his two cats welcomed me again with their big enthusiasms! ( I don't care if they come to me just for food.:)) Followed the steps of these two lively and energetic cats, I could also have a look at Erhan's place, it's nostalgically charming and full of characters, just like the host himself. As Erhan was away for the next two days, his friend Juli also took very good care of me, showed me around the neighbors and clearly explained everything, I got to have a nice picture immediately on the same day as my arrival. The rest of my days there were always enjoyable, listening to children's happy voice from the school next door, and call to prayer in the early morning. It was not a tourist spot, but it has the soul of the city. Me and my friend ended up making a lot of friends there. And I would always remember the night we chat with Erhan in his cute little garden. Beautiful people with beautiful heart in a beautiful place, this is what we feel about this place and the city, Istanbul. Lots of love!
My parents stayed with Erhan and here's what my Dad had to say.
Our stay with Erhan (4 days) 23rd to 27th april 2015...The best of 4 days stay in Turkey trip of 12 days.
His house is in old part of istanbul. Very comfortable homely atmosphere and Erhan is a wonderful person to stay with.
While leaving on the last day morning we felt as if were leaving our own house. Thank you Erhan for everything and God bless you.God bless your 2 beautiful cats Dharam & Dhrum.
Erhan is a cool guy! He made us feel very comfortable in his charming little cityhouse! We have nothing but nice things to say about Erhan.
Erhan is a great person and I really enjoyed staying in his home. He and Juli are very accommodating and the room I stayed in was just the perfect thing for me.
I felt very welcomed in his house and al through my staying I had the feeling of being home. Erhan sure knows how to make you feel welcomed and also, he and Juli are great company, both smart, relaxed and very artistic.
The neighbourhood is a very old part of Istanbul, with old buildings and welcoming people. Although being in such a big city I felt like I am in a small community. I am a photographer and I felt in love with the Balat aria for its uniqueness.
All in all I had a great time in Istanbul and that was also due to the great services offered by Ehan and Juli ..... Thank you, Erhan!!!!!... and Thank you Juli !!!

About the Host, Erhan
My name is Erhan - I just move to this very traditional neighbourhood. Here is an amazing place if you like old houses, narrow streets and local people :) Balat is the old Armenian and Jewish quarter of Istanbul. So very lovely architecture.
I am working for an international NGO. I am traveling a lot because of my job. My friends are telling me that I am an easy going person. And I love animals, nature (that's why I moved here - now I have a big garden :) -
I can't live without my job, love, friends, family and my cat!
