Heron House is very popular with groups of friends and families of all ages. Located at a historic Cape farm, the house offers views and direct access onto the private Elandsberg Nature Reserve. Two farm houses have been joined and given direct access to a big outside patio with its own garden, swimming pool, shady verandah, and outdoor facilities for braaing. Brunch and dinner can be ordered to be delivered at the house, or adults are welcome to join us at our restaurant at the main Farmhouse.

Guest access
The house is located on a working wheat, sheep, and almond farm, and right at the edge of the private Elandsberg Nature Reserve. You have exclusive access to the pool, patio, and garden at your house. You are welcome to stroll, hike, and cycle all over the farm and reserve, or in the farmlands that surround us, or kayak, swim or surf at the dam. We also offer guided tours in an open Land Rover. Adult guests may join us for brunch or dinner at the Conservatory Restaurant at the main Farmhouse.

Where you’ll be

Hermon, Western Cape, South Africa

Heron House is located at the historic Victorian Cape farm Bartholomeus Klip near Riebeek Kasteel (about 1 hour from Cape Town).

The farm has direct access onto Elandsberg - 10,000 acres of pristine private nature reserve with over 500 head of game, including eland, springbuck, black wildebeest, zebra and bontebok, lynx and birds - and forms part of the Cape Floristic Region. The particular flora in our reserve is so special that it has been declared a provincial nature reserve, as well as a Natural Heritage Site, to safeguard it.

Within a short drive from the farm, you may visit world-renowned wineries and restaurants, travel along mountain passes with breathtaking views, and visit local markets, art galleries or cultural events.
