The Space

The photo you see at the start of this listing is of Halemaumau at the Jagger Museum overlook which is about 15 minutes from this rental. This photo was taken by one of my guests at the end of October, 2012. There may have been some time lapse involved so I can't promise it looks exactly like the photo on any given night, however the lava at Halemaumau does seem to be rising! One recent estimate says that as of late October the lava is within 30 feet of visibility.

So come stay just a few minutes by car plus about a minute on foot from this amazing volcanic event!

This almost new three bedroom/two bathroom home is a perfect marriage of privacy and convenience. It is in the town of Volcano - Royal Hawaiian Estes neighborhood and is three miles from Volcano Village and about five miles from the Volcanoes National Park. You can drive just over ten minutes to the Jagger Museum after dark and peer (email hidden) Volcano (Halemaumau as featured in the cover photo)! Or turn the other direction on Highway 11 and you can sail to Hilo in half an hour as it is only 20 minutes away.

The home itself has been lovingly furnished with everything you need to feel like you are coming home. You enter a locking gate and drive down the driveway (preferably BACK down as the driveway is a little steep and you don't want to back up and into the street) to a two-car paved carport. Plenty of room for at least a third car, too. Notice the feeling of serenity and privacy as you gaze at the property surrounded in native rainforest which screens you from the road. There are no immediate neighbors so relax as you come up the stairs to the deck and into the home where you will enjoy a full living room with a brand new HD television with satellite service. The living room is open to the kitchen and dining area so whomever is cooking will always be part of the action. And the home's fresh, modern style will make you feel like calling it a party!

The kitchen/dining area opens to an covered outdoor dining area so you can enjoy the lush forest, rain or shine.

Each bedroom has a king bed with luxurious brand new bedding and six pillows per bed (not counting small ornamental pillows) (four king size and two large euro squares). The master bedroom is extra roomy with a huge walk-in closet and large granite-top dresser - in fact much of the furniture is the same furniture you will find in the four star resort Waikoloa Hilton!

Kitchen conveniences include brand new refrigerator with ice maker, new dishwasher and microwave and new toaster, toaster oven, programmable coffee maker and blender.

As of winter 2012/13 the towels, bedding and rugs are almost all new.

We will supply you with coffee, creamer and fruit - you decide how much cooking you would like to do. The kitchen is ready, but wonderful Thai, fish, pizza and gourmet dining are only about three minutes away. Your private hideaway is located on a paved road just a couple of long blocks from Highway 11 and you are surrounded by adventures.

We have added a new wood burning stove and we have supplied firewood, paper and kindling - or fire starters.

  • Krish was a responsive and excellent host. The house was very clean, and it was exactly as shown in the pictures.

  • My family and I had a great stay at Hale Hapuu in Volcano. Situated nicely between Hilo and Kano and able to easily access Volcano National Park down the road. Close to beaches too. The house was very charming for a modern cabin and offered great amenities! It got a bit chilly up there, I'd suggest you pack sweatshirts for the evenings. Overall it was a great time. We would recommend if you decide to stay on the Big Island.

  • The Hot tub house worked out well for our family of 5. A comfortable, clean home with convenient location to Volcano park and village. The hot tub was a nice bonus too! Krish was very friendly and accommodating. The security system was a little confusing but didn't pose a problem. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone interested. Thanks Krish!

  • Krish was extremely helpful and the house was great -- beautifully decorated, clean, and well taken care-of. Recommended!

  • Absolutely great! We were really impressed with this place. The hot tub was obviously the best part. The house had everything we could possibly need. Krish provided tons of details about the house and also the local area. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Krish was flexible with the booking as the first time we scheduled a tropical storm was about to land. She offered to credit us a different night which was very helpful. The day we arrived to check in at our agreed 3pm time however, the house wasn't done being completely cleaned and we had to wait another 30 minutes outside with our friends while Krish and her husband finished things up. The house was in the end very tidy and clean and we felt comfortable. There was a mild mildew smell throughout the house but this is fairly typical of homes in Volcano since it is so wet in the region. Overall we had a good experience and the home was as expected. The rooftop hot tub was a great addition!

  • Krish was very friendly and accommodating. I made a last minute reservation for that same day, and she was super helpful and gave detailed directions and recommended activities. The cabin was wonderful, and just the right size :).

  • The cabin – a handsome and well designed studio apartment in a private setting surrounded by lush vegetation – had everything we needed for a pleasant stop in Volcano Village during our trip around the Big Island. The National Park entrance was just a few miles away, making it an ideal place to stay the night between an evening stop at the Halema'uma'u Crater overlook and a day hike through the Kīlauea Iki Crater the following morning. Krish was easy to communicate with and generously accommodating in our request for a place to store our luggage during our day hike. Thanks for a pleasant stay!

  • This cabin hidden in the middle of the Hawaiian jungle is a true gem. Enjoy the comfort of a true home (bedroom with huge bed, kitchenette and bathroom), all very clean and as new. Great views of the jungle from the large windows, and no neighbors to be seen! A haven of peace and tranquillity, very close to Volcano and the Park. Krish was a great host, providing many insights on the activities to do in the surroundings. A must-do for! Hugely recommended!

  • Volcano Village is a beautiful, unique place on the Big Island. The Hale Hapuu was a perfect home base to explore the park and surrounding area. We stayed four nights. It was clean, quiet, private and sort of surreal in the misty rainforest. We hiked and explored during the days and then cooked delicious dinners at the home in the evening. Thank you to Krish for her hospitality and extra shout out to her for going out of her way to get us a spatula!
