Bring your passport and enjoy an international vacation destination! Windsor, Ontario, is this area's best-kept secret. Located directly across the river from Detroit, it enjoys all the amenities (culture, sports and entertainment) that Detroit has to offer, while keeping the feeling of a smaller town.
Come and enjoy our beautiful vintage home with award-winning gardens within steps of Coventry Garden waterfront park, the Detroit River and Peace Fountain. Enjoy our safe, quiet tree-lined boulevard and your spacious private room with cloud-like queen size bed with luxury bedding and private bath. Room has a sitting area with breakfast station, microwave and a small fridge for your convenience. Free wifi, and on street parking available.
In the morning, watch the ships pass by on the Detroit River while you enjoy a bottomless cup of coffee (I did say my relatives are American, didn't I?) on our beautiful verandah. We are close to public transportation and minutes from the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. Head to Detroit to enjoy the Detroit Institute of Arts, housing many renowned masterpieces. Attend sporting events at Comerica Park, Ford Field or Joe Louis Arena. Only a bus ride away, Detroit is so close that it is recognized as our "home" teams. Come and cheer for the Lions, Tigers and Red Wings!
Every January, car enthusiasts flock to Detroit for the much-anticipated Detroit International Auto Show . You haven't seen anything until you have seen it in the Motor City!
If you are a runner, the Detroit Marathon held in October is unique, crossing the border twice, running over the Ambassador Bridge and through the Detroit-Windsor tunnel.
Stay on this side of the border and tour the Hiram Walker Distillery (the home of Canadian Club), attend world class entertainment at Caesars Windsor, visit the chic new restaurants in Walkerville. or attend one of the many festivals at our Festival Plaza on the waterfront. This is a great place for foodies and locavores! Do some day-tripping and "Explore the Shore", visiting the many award-winning wineries in the region, and enjoy our local produce. You can even follow the route of the Underground Railroad! We can provide you with a guidebook and map of the region and give you our suggestions for "must sees" in our area. Take a picnic (we will provide the picnic basket and blanket) and enjoy the sunset on the Detroit River
Come back and relax in our hot tub (especially if you have been running, sight-seeing or sitting outside in the stands!) or sit under our wisteria-covered pergola, have a barbeque, and watch the fireflies in summer. You will have a wonderful time!
We believe all people using AirBnB are fundamentally good people so a trust system is in place at our home... Please respect our home as you would yours.
For security reasons, you will be asked to show proper photo identification (passport, driver's licence) on arrival.
PLEASE NO SMOKING, PLEASE NO SMOKERS:We are non-smokers, and we appreciate that you also want a smoke-free environment.
PLEASE NO PETS: We know that pet owners are wonderful people (our children all have pets!), but for the comfort of all, we do not allow them here. We will help to find you a reliable kennel to board your pet.
KITCHEN- Our kitchen is fully stocked (an understatement!) and everything is available for guests to use including condiments, towels, plates, cups, mugs, cookware, pots, pans, utensils, and silverware. Since Pat is an excellent chef, he may give you some tips for preparing a dish. If you are lucky, you may even get to try one of his creations!
Please note: Use any of our products, foods etc., with caution if you have allergies.
BEDROOM(S) AND BATHROOM- Clean and fresh bedding (we even wash the bedspread between guests...better than a hotel!) and towels will be provided along with a variety of toiletries and a hair dryer to use during your stay. We only rent to one party at time, so the bathroom is private and will only be used by you and those in your party (if you are renting our second bedroom). An iron and ironing board are also available. Let us know if you need anything. Chances are we have it!
HOT TUB- You are welcome to use the hot tub, but use caution and use it at your own risk. We keep it cooler in the summer, and hotter in the winter, so that we can stay outside longer, but can adjust the temperature for your comfort.
PARKING- There is street parking available at no charge. We are also just a few minutes from the train station.
Please help us to keep the house clean and neat, for the enjoyment of all. The telephone number to our house is (phone number hidden), and my cell phone number is (phone number hidden))
* Most of all. ENJOY YOUR STAY. We will do all that we can to ensure that you do!
Carol was an incredibly congenial and hospitable host. We were happy with every aspect of our experience--comfy bed, lovely home with wonderful front porch, delicious breakfast, great location, off street parking, many good food and drink options nearby. We will certainly return when we next visit Windsor. Thank you!
We could not have asked for a nicer and more comfortable place to stay. Carol is super cool and really made us feel at home. She even went out of her way to make a delicious vegan breakfast for us. We were only in town for one night, but she made us wish we could have stayed a couple more!
Carol hosted my husband and I for our third wedding anniversary. I chose Carol's place because of the proximity to downtown, the amenities and her beautiful neighborhood. Everything was exactly as the posting described, but the real pleasure was Carol herself. Carol was a wonderful hostess; she loves her community very much and was a wealth of knowledge about the area. Her home was lovely, breakfast was great, and we had great conversations. We had several things that we wanted to do while we were there, but also took Carol's suggestion on things to explore.
My husband and I truly enjoyed Carol and will definitely stay with her again the next time we are in Windsor.
Carol was a lovely host. We sat on the veranda for a bit, and I saw cardinal birds, bunnies and squirrels. It is a nice neighbourhood, and a walk on the boardwalk viewing the skyline of Detroit is a must.
The room has a great bed and lots of fluffy towels are provided.
We were very pleased with our accommodation. Carol and Pat were warm, welcoming and generous hosts. The location of their home was perfect for us and we thoroughly enjoyed morning coffee on their lovely front porch. Our room was clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfortable with lovely bedding. The bathroom was also very clean with high quality towels and updated plumbing. All in all an excellent stay!
We truly enjoyed our stay with Carol & Pat; they definitely went "above and beyond" to make our stay memorable. They are both great conversationalists and interesting people! :-)
We were treated to many unexpected extra's - delicious breakfast, fresh homemade bread, home-grown cherries, etc. We also much enjoyed just sitting on their veranda with a coffee or cool drink to watch the evening fireflies.
This is a great location near Windsor's beautiful waterfront park and its kilometers of walkway; we especially enjoyed the views of the river and Detroit skyline.
The room was very quiet and comfortable - especially the wonderful bed! All the features you wish for are there including a private bathroom.
We definitely recommend this as a great place to stay especially if you want to interact with very friendly & knowledgeable hosts. This is more than just a place to stay because you will leave having made new friends.
Carol was a great host and went out of her way to ensure that my stay was enjoyable. I appreciated the time she devoted to giving me a true Detroit experience, her knowledge and obvious attachment to the Windsor/Detroit area made my visit all the more memorable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Carol and Pats place to anyone interested in visiting this part of the world.
Happily retired from a career in education, I enjoy travelling and adventure, and now have more time for both. I have visited several countries in Europe and plan to go back (an extended stay in Italy is still on the list!) and have hiked through the rainforests of Costa Rica and stayed in remote villages.
I am a native Windsorite; I moved to Toronto for five years in the 70s and came back because I missed the amenities offered here in our international location. Since most of my family is located in the U.S., I have travelled seamlessly between the two countries my entire life. I enjoy everything that the unique Windsor-Detroit area has to offer, and will help you to find the best places to go on both sides of the border, for arts, culture, food or entertainment.
Having travelled much for business and pleasure, I hope to make your stay here comfortable and enjoyable. I love to meet people and I am looking forward to meeting you!
