The Space

Country Cosmopolitan! This Victorian home is the perfect place for you to stay while you are exploring Hudson, NY. The home has a wonderful private yard and screened in porch where you can watch the leaves turn color, bird watch and enjoy the occassional deer sighting! After you have spent your day lounging on the porch you can take a 10 minute walk and be where all the Hudson action is!

The house is a well furnished, private home and yard, walking distance to all wonderful activities such as Art Galleries, Antique Stores, Music Venues, Theater , Hudson River Boat Launch, River Park, Fabulous Restaurants, Boutique Clothing & Accessory shops. Hudson, NY is also a close car ride to the Berkshires, Catamount Ski Resort, the Catskills, Olana and many local hiking spots, wineries and farm stands.

The home has 2 bedrooms with a Queen size bed in each room. There is a kitchen, dining room and den. The smaller bathroom has a shower and toilet. The larger bathroom has a sink and a toilet. The home is elegantly furnished with antiques and collectibles.

I do have a carriage house that has room for an artist to work as long as you keep it in good condition with tarp on the floor. There is electricity but no heat. You could also paint in the attic as long as you lay something on the floor for protection. If you are a very messy artist than my place is not for you as I cant come back to the house with it in worse condition.

You do not need a car to enjoy the town of Hudson because you can take a scenic Amtrak train ride from Penn Station (2 hours from NYC) right into the town of Hudson. You will need to take a 5 minute cab ride to my house but after that you can easily walk to town.

Please email me with any questions you may have and please read the "House Rules" section tab!!

Guest Access

Let me know if you will need access to the carriage house.

Interaction with Guests

I will not be at my home while you are staying there. You will have my entire home for yourselves. I will be in contact with you before your stay and during your stay via email, text and phone.

The Neighborhood

Hudson is like a mini Manhattan yet still feels (email hidden) town. My home is on the outskirts of Hudson with just a 15 minute walk to the main drag (Warren Street). I am a 4 minute walk to Stewarts and there (email hidden) directly across the street.

Getting around

You can see all of Hudson via foot. I recommend having a car so you can take advantage of the surrounding areas (farms, lakes, caves, Catskill mountains, etc.) There are taxis in town. Bus transportation is not that reliable so I do not recommend it.

Other Things to Note

My home is NOT in MINT condition. It is a work in progress. If you are looking for MINT please look elsewhere. If you need a house that you can eat off the floor, look someplace else. My house is clean and orderly but not for a person who is going to come in with a white glove!

  • I stayed at Paula's place for a month and it was a fantastic experience. The house was very clean and well taken care of. Paula was very nice to deal with and was quick to answer any and all emails. The house itself is a beautiful old home set on a large private yard. I spent most evenings sitting on the screened in porch listening to the birds and enjoying the fresh air. Although old, the house is full of incredible antique furniture and feels very much like a home. I really enjoyed my time in Hudson and have Paula, and her house, to thank.

  • Paula (email hidden) - she was responsive, flexible and very helpful - including emailing us weekly updates on places and things to do in the hudson valley. The house was wonderful, full of character and does need some work as all old homes do - but for us it was part of the allure of this part of the world. We stayed for a full month to prepare for an art show we were doing and it was perfect. Paula gave us our space. We found that most of the time we drove into town (Hudson) but that was mostly because we were picking something up or just wanted to do all of our walking in town up and down Warren. The town of Catskill was right over the bridge which (email hidden) to visit and we did a lot of hiking including driving to Hunter was an incredible fall. The bedrooms were spacious - the beds were comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience stepping back in time - the antiques were quite lovely and just having to slow down enough to enjoy the porch and soak in up-state new york. We would come back - no question.

  • Paula's house was a good fit for our needs - it was clean, it was reasonably centrally located, so it was possible to walk or bike into town, and there were two separate bedrooms, each with a large bed and its own bathroom. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Since we split it among three people, it was reasonably priced. It smelled a little musty when we got in, but opening the windows quickly dispelled the problem. We didn't spend a lot of time hanging out in the house but it (email hidden) to come home to at night.

  • First off, it should be noted that the price of this accommodation is absurdly high, given what you receive. An appropriate price would be...well...nothing. In fact, the owner (Paula) should be paying the renters to stay here. Some other commenters have already observed that this house is quite unclean and unpleasant smelling, particularly in the downstairs area. I'd say that's a drastic understatement. And I don't mean to be hyperbolic here. My girlfriend and I are regular Airbnb users and frequent campers. We are not afraid of a little funk or a place that is "less than perfect"(Paula's words to me in an email). When you arrive at Chez Paula, you will be greeted by a dilapidated facade that looks like the set of a horror flick. But whatever. The outside isn't what's important. The much-described porch is screened in, but there's almost more hole than screen. The furniture on the porch is rusty beyond all measure, leaving marks on your clothing and being generally uncomfortable for sitting on (furniture's purpose if I'm not mistaken). Entering the house is a bit like entering a tomb - there is a moldy mildewy stank to the place that no amount of airing out will cure (we tried). The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes that are covered in filth. We had to wash everything twice before it was used and I think I still may have contracted tetanus. The living room is simply unlivable. We lifted a pillow on the couch and encountered a white crusty stain. Then promptly left the area. The sleeping areas are fine. Though one has a rather uncomfortable bed and is just feet away from a noisy, well-trafficked road. Most frustrating about my stay was that when I brought all of this to Paula's attention, informing her that we had decided to move to a nearby hotel (that was only 50 more a night per room and soooooo much cleaner - The Barlow, check it out), she did not respond at all. I was polite and respectful, but she was not able to muster even a meager apology. Hudson (email hidden). Don't stay here and enjoy what it has to offer.

    Response from Paula:

To all my future airbnb guests. It was way to hurtful to respond to this heinous review about my mother's home so I am going to copy and paste a reference's response to the review. Let it be noted that I did not respond to Sam's request for a refund because I was out of town for the Labor Day weekend and the Jewish Holidays. In addition, Sam claims that he has rented many times via airbnb yet he has no reviews at all. With my references permission...Krista states "I have rented from Paula before and when recommending her place to a friend recently, I couldn't help but notice her latest "review" from "Samuel". I felt the need to respond as I take exception to every single thing said. Yet as I attempt to counter each excessive claim, I realize there is no point, as it clearly isn't a review at all. I'm sure it's not so easy for Paula to laugh it off as the misdirected rantings of an angry person but I do hope interested folks take note of the vitriol and move on to some of the more equitable reviews. We are all entitled to our opinions, but they are subjective and relative so we can we keep in mind that we ARE still talking about someone's home? One would hope reviewing the place would take precedent over being an asshole. The house is an old Victorian that is not in the newly-restored condition one may find other such houses. Paula is working on it, in the meantime it (email hidden) to stay, ESPECIALLY for $175 a night, it is full of character, kept clean and comfortable. Everything is original and antique, the photos shown represent it well and that includes the so-called 'horror-flick facade'. Paula is very frank about its quirks and when one agrees to stay there, it is under the pretense that it will be a country-cottage-like experience, not a bed and breakfast and not a hotel. The claims made simply aren't true, there are no more holes in the screen than screen, the dishes are not worthy of contracting tetanus, these are ridiculous statements and I won't give them due notice except to point out the absurdity of them and to ask people to look at the photos, read the house rules, talk to Paula, and decide for themselves. "

  • Paula was fantastic as a host. She shared events happening in town in advance and responded to any questions I had within an hour. The house is super cute and was a short walking distance from the rest of town.

  • Paula is quick to respond and very helpful. She sent us great suggestions for fun things to do during our stay in Hudson.

  • The house was lovely and quaint and in close location to the main strip. Everything about the house was as expected and described.

    July 2013
  • From the very beginning, Paula was in touch with us often and very quickly. Since this was our first Airbnb experience, I really appreciated how fast she was in her communication, particularly because there were some downed trees on the property and she was concerned for our safety. Paula also recommended some DELICIOUS restaurants (Wunderbar should not be missed!) and some fun shopping in the area. Lastly, Paula was flexible with the check out time, which, since we were driving a long distance, we really appreciated! I would give Paula herself 5 stars!!!

The upstairs of Paula's house was cozy and bright. My mom and I each had a private bathroom and sleeping area and the beds were comfy and clean. We were out for most of the day and we just fell into bed at the end of the night. There were some "quirks" to the older style of the house (such as a sink that didn't work, a finicky microwave, and creeky old stairs in front), but that didn't bother us.

It should be noted that we spent most of our time upstairs, because while those rooms were inviting, the downstairs of the house smelled of mold and was relatively dark, even during the brightness of day. Opening windows to air out the house didn't remove the smell downstairs, so we stayed upstairs.

The porch was dirty and dark, hidden by the overgrowth on the property. It was hard to imagine being able to comfortably sit out there, not because of the antique furnishings (most of which were very tasteful and added charm), but because it needed a good scrub down.

The outside yard of the property (which did feature some downed trees, as Paula warned us and was scrambling to take care of) was overgrown with bushes, flowers, and trees and it would have been hard to use the yard for any meaningful purpose.

We had a very nice stay in the upstairs of the house, and, because we did not need an entire house and were only sleeping there, felt very comfortable. This house has real potential as a charming Victorian.

  • this house was great! it was clean, plenty of room and in a great location. we drove from nyc and were excited to have a driveway to pull right into. we brought our bikes and rode right into town which was less then a mile away. the location was super convenient! the house was adorable. this was my first time using air bnb and will definitely use it again in the future!

  • We so enjoyed our stay at this charming Victorian style house in Hudson. It was a bit farther to walk than we anticipated, but it was not a difficult walk to the business area. The shops and local galleries were so much fun and the local cabs were very reasonable. ( we walked to the area and then took a cab back) We had no problems and if you are looking for a place to enjoy the towns and villages and local history of the area, this was a great B&B for that! We also attended the Duchess County Wool show and it was a easy and inexpensive train ride to Rhinecliff. Great stay, lovely atmosphere and so charming.
