Come stay in our spacious home in walking distance of Cal Poly (10 min) and downtown (25 min). Full of color, light, art and folk art, the house was designed in early 90's by Steven Pults. Now, with our kids gone, we're happy to share it with you.

The Space

We have three bedrooms available. You are looking at Linnea's room, which is a little is smaller than Juliet's but still spacious, bright and airy. It has an exceptionally comfortable queen-sized bed (memory foam on a hybrid spring and cotton futon), a desk and a chair.

Juliet and Linnea's rooms have a shared bath, so we try to rent one room at a time, or to rent both rooms to the same party, but there may be times when you are asked if you mind sharing the bath. During peak season weekends, June-August, it's fairly likely that the bathroom will be shared.

Guest Access

Guests can use the gardens, back deck and the pleasant ground floor living room anytime, and usually the kitchen. There are toys and books in the living room, a big screen for dvds (no TV) and a stack of games for rainy days.

We ask that you respect our family's daily routines when using the space on the second floor: the kitchen, the dining room and the back room. Feel free to make yourself at home if no one else is using the those areas or ask if it's okay to share them.

The third floor is private.

Interaction with Guests

Tom and I love sharing our home with guests from around the world. International travelers ourselves, and hosts to exchange students and SERVAS travelers for many years before discovering Airbnb, there's nothing we enjoy more (email hidden)ly conversation at the dining room table, on the deck, or by the fire.

The Neighborhood

San Luis Obispo has amazingly good weather year (email hidden)ly downtown, many excellent restaurants, wonderful music and arts, and the best chocolate around. We're ten miles from the beach and an hour from Hearst Castle, in the midst of great wine country in Edna Valley, Paso Robles and more.

Our home is in Monterey Heights, the northeast corner of SLO, next to the university campus. A ten minute walk south takes you to San Luis's uptown district, halfway to downtown, where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes: Splash, Steynberg, Central Coast Brewing - and our own Mama Ganache chocolate shop.

A 25 minute walk, 10 minute bike ride or a 5 minute drive away, San Luis Obispo's charming downtown is bigger than one would expect for a city this size, with a lovely creek walk lined with cafes at its center, interesting side streets, and a mix of local and nationally known stores.

Don't miss the Mission and its garden, the small but always interesting Art Museum and the History Center right across the street, and the Children's Museum, which our grandchildren haven't tired of yet, all along the creek walk.

Getting around

A bus stop is two blocks away, and the Amtrak station about a mile. Easy freeway access, street parking available for one car.

Other Things to Note

Tom and I are members of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. We voluntarily pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city (in addition to state and federal income taxes).

  • Eve is very warm and inviting. She is extremely knowledgable about the history of San Luis Obispo and it was pleasure speaking with her. The house is very unique, spacious and gets a ton of natural light (which I love). The room and bathroom are clean and comfortable.

  • We had an awesome time with Eve and Tom! This is a lovely room in a beautiful house and we felt welcome and comfortable throughout our brief stay. Numerous coincidences between Tom and Eve and my husband and I were a reminder of how fantastic it is to make connections with people through airbnb. We would highly recommend this place and the fine company it keeps!

  • Pros: easy going hosts, well-decorated crafty home, location close to the freeway and downtown. Cons: shared bathroom. Thanks again Eve & Tom for having us.

  • Eve and Tom were absolutely fabulous hosts. The rooms were wonderful, clean and more than we expected. This was our first booking with Airbnb and was a great start. The house is in a great location, very quiet and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay and if we are in the area again, would love to stay here.

  • Eve and I have known each other through our local community and talked on the phone to discuss another date as I had a last minute dog sitting client come up the day I was going to stay
She was kind understanding and flexible about having me stay another time

  • We loved staying with Eve! Their house was beautiful, and they provided us with everything a guest could need. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was super clean and tidy. We would stay here again in a second! We highly recommend it!

  • My mom and I enjoyed a lovely stay in Linnea's room. The room was very comfortable with more than enough space for two people. We felt instantly at home upon our arrival. Eve's home is just amazing and as a former resident of SLO, I can tell you her home makes for the perfect stay in SLO. Her home is so unique and the location was perfect! You can walk to Cal Poly and are only a 5 minute drive from downtown. My stay here was my first airbnb experience and I'm sold! I will definitely stay here next time I am in SLO.

  • - EN - We stayed just one night in SLO. Eve was very welcoming and communicative. The house is beautiful and the room was very nice. However, we had to share our bathroom with other people (we were informed andok with that) but they seemed don't care about cleanliness... They didn't empty their bath water and they didn't flush toilets... Moreover, some people arrived around 10:30 pm without reservation. They made a lot of noise just behind the door of our room whereas we were trying to sleep. We had to leave early in the morning and when we woke up, someone was sleeping in a couch in the entrance.

    Response from Eve:

I'm so sorry you came on such a crazy night. It was graduation weekend Cal Poly. Unfortunately, your neighbor fell ill that evening and was inconsiderate about the bathroom. She apologized to me and I hope to you. The people who came in late that night had booked the wrong night, and because it was graduation weekend and every bed in town was taken, they had no place else to go. I am so sorry that they too were inconsiderate. I'd made up the sofa upstairs for the man who slept on the chair but he never made it up the stairs, I guess. I can't imagine so many things going wrong on one night ever again!
