About This Listing
Full of color, light, art and folk art, our home is in walking distance of Cal Poly (10 min) and downtown (25 min). We're happy to share it - and a mini chocolate and wine tasting - with you!
We have three bedrooms available. You are looking at Linnea's room, which is a little is smaller than Juliet's but still spacious, bright and airy. It's furnished with a brand-new exceptionally comfortable queen-sized bed, a desk and a chair.
Juliet and Linnea's rooms have a shared bath, so we try to rent one room at a time, or to rent both rooms to the same party, but there may be times when you are asked if you mind sharing the bath. During peak season weekends, June-August, it's fairly likely that the bathroom will be shared.
Guests can use the gardens, back deck and the pleasant ground floor living room anytime, and usually the kitchen. There are toys and books in the living room, a big screen for dvds (no TV) and a stack of games for rainy days.
We ask that you respect our family's daily routines when using the space on the second floor: the kitchen, the dining room and the back room. Feel free to make yourself at home if no one else is using the those areas or ask if it's okay to share them.
The third floor is private.
Interaction with Guests
Tom and I love sharing our home with guests from around the world. International travelers ourselves, and hosts to exchange students and SERVAS travelers for many years before discovering Airbnb, there's nothing we like better than a good conversation at the dining room table, on the deck, or by the fire.
San Luis Obispo has amazingly good weather, a vital downtown, many excellent restaurants, wonderful music and arts, and the best chocolate around. We're ten miles from the beach and an hour from Hearst Castle, in the midst of great wine country in Edna Valley, Paso Robles and more.
Our home is in Monterey Heights, the northeast corner of SLO, next to the university campus. A ten minute walk south takes you to San Luis's uptown district, halfway to downtown, where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes: Splash, Steynberg, Central Coast Brewing - and our own Mama Ganache chocolate shop.
A 25 minute walk, 10 minute bike ride or a 5 minute drive away, San Luis Obispo's charming downtown is bigger than one would expect for a city this size, with a lovely creek walk lined with cafes at its center, interesting side streets, and a mix of local and nationally known stores.
Don't miss the Mission and its garden, the small but always interesting Art Museum and the History Center right across the street, and the Children's Museum, which our grandchildren haven't tired of yet, all along the creek walk.
A bus stop is two blocks away, and the Amtrak station about a mile. Easy freeway access, street parking available for one car.
Other Things to Note
We'd love to share a free mini-wine-and-chocolate-tasting with you. Ask us about it!
Tom and I are members of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. We voluntarily pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city (in addition to state and federal income taxes).
Please use water sparingly. We are in the midst of a severe drought.
Please stay in close touch about your arrival time so we can be here to welcome you.
Parking is restricted in our neighborhood on weekdays. If you come during the week, we have have one parking pass which we will lend you when you come (please remember to give it back!).
If you have more than one car, one will have to be left a few houses up the street at the end of the restricted area. On the weekends there are no restrictions.
Juliet's room is right below our own, so if you come in late, please keep your voices down. There is a strictly enforced 10 PM noise ordinance in the city of San Luis Obispo.
You’re welcome to make yourselves at home in the living room outside the bedrooms anytime, or in the garden or the back deck. Provided we aren’t using it ourselves, feel free use the kitchen and the second floor living space too. The third floor is our private space.
Guests have their own refrigerator in the pantry. There’s microwave near the refrigerator, an electric kettle, an espresso machine, a French press and a drip coffee maker on the counter that you can use. Coffee is in the freezer, tea in boxes and tins by the kettle. Cups are hanging above the coffee machines, glasses are in the cabinet above the microwave. There’s filtered water in the fridge but the tap water is fine to drink.
Lily Bear is a rescued Chow Golden Retriever. She can be barky and will occasionally growl because she’s still a little fearful, but if you completely ignore her at first, she’ll eventually come to you. If she barks as you leave the house tell her “Bear stays” firmly and she’ll get the message. She rarely tries to get out the front door, but if she does get out, leave the door wide open and walk away from it to where she can’t see you, and she’ll come back in a few minutes.
The black cats are Olive and Alice. They live upstairs. It’s fine to let them in the front door so they can scoot up the stairs before Lily sees them.
Leave the lights on in the entry hall when you go to bed. Someone will turn them off.
Lovely home, nice host, Eve shared good places and her own stories to us, hope we could stay there longer.
Eve and Tom were very warm and nice hosts. The room clean and well decorated.
We had a lovely time tasting wines and talking (french and english) about our lives. Thanks again !
Great hospitality. Eve and Tom are indeed friendly and undertanding. The house is beautiful and we enjoy our stay. Thanks again Eve and Tom.
Eve and Tom are just wonderfull people, really interested in the people they meet through airnbnb. We got a great reception with winetasting and delicious chocolaterie, and later on shared our views on many things, from the drought in California to the art of writing books. Thank you for a great reception, your hospitality and (already) friendship. We highly recommand a stay with them in this beautifull place called San Luis Obispo.
It was an absolute pleasure staying at Eve's. The house is eclectic and very charming. Eve provides everything you might need, including chocolate and snacks -- and the bed was very comfortable. Eve kindly accommodated me by informing the other guests that I'd need the bathroom to get ready for a wedding when I arrived (since our rooms shared a bathroom). I would highly recommend staying here.
