Carl was friendly and helpful. Jenifer was not present for our 5week stay in Breadfruit. The location is great for shops, restaurants, beaches and Boardwalk. The Queen bed was comfortable and air conditioning in the bedroom was a godsend as the kitchen area was very hot for cooking. The two balconies were great-one for breakfast and dinner when the temperature is cooler and the other during the day with a cool breeze most of the time.
We had a great stay at Karibou Gardens. The area is very quiet and peaceful and the other guests are very friendly. At the south end of the road there is a great sheltered beach for young children that we went to every day with our son. The friendly dogs and puppies living at Karibou Gardens that really made it feel like home too.
If you want to enjoy an exotic place with the comforts of home, Karibu Garden is the perfect choice. Everything exceeded expectations -- we had two room-sized verandas, surrounded by flowers, a breadfruit tree, finches, and one lucky morning we saw a monkey family!
Jennifer greets and treats you like a relative, Carl provides philosophical thoughts and an Insider's Tour of Barbados (no brochure for his favorite places), and their son lives at their other home in Brooklyn, so they understand Americans.
Our kitchen even included a blender for tropical fruit smoothies, and there's an outdoor gas grill in the shared space. Easy beach access was at the end of the street (azure water, white coral sand and rocks -- bring water shoes and goggles). A nearby church rang hours and melodies; the "coconut milk ,man" delivered his bottled drink, and everyone was friendly -- children and the "watch dogs" stopped by, and people from many countries visited to chat with Jennifer (the United Nations and European Union both have main offices nearby).
This is a sanctuary with air conditioning and wifi; a bit of paradise with the convenience of a bus line and great supermarket nearby.
Advice: There is a British influence here and many Bajans have lived in London or Canada, so sophistication blends with subsistence living. Most women wear dresses/ skirts and some carry umbrellas for sun and rain The local farmer's market at the Art Gallery included French baked goods, imported sausages, along with local wares. We are not Hotel/ Resort people, so we had everything we wanted and needed. I already have a list of things to do when we go back... Jennifer knows a reflexologist, which could be interesting. I kept saying "amazing" the whole time I was on the island... and the only pesky insect I noticed was sand flies at the beach at dusk. Came home to mosquitos and my town pond.
