I am offering 1 bedroom in my cozy South Philadelphia home. My home is located in the walkable (or bike-able) Newbold section of South Philly. It's less than two blocks from the South Philly Tap Room and Ultimo Coffee (both among Philly's best), and just a five minute stroll from the dozens of hip shops, bars, and restaurants along East Passyunk Avenue - recently named one of the "10 Best Foodie Streets in America" by Food & Wine Magazine. It's also close to South Philly classics such as the Melrose Diner and Pat's & Geno's cheesesteak shops.
Center City Philadelphia is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute subway ride away (the subway stop is 1.5 blocks from my house), and with plenty of parking nearby exploring the city by car is easy as well. As a real estate agent and avid explorer, I'm happy to provide tips and advice on things to see and do while you're in Philadelphia.
The bedroom is air conditioned and features a plush single bed as well as a dresser and armoire. The entire house has WiFi internet, and I also have hundreds of books that you're welcome to take off the shelf for a quick read - including Philadelphia travel books with ideas on things to do. I also provide guests with a guide to several of my personal favorite neighborhood spots.
In addition to the bedroom, guests have access to the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The living room has a television with streaming Netflix & DVD player, and the kitchen is usually well-stocked and a fun place to cook breakfast or dinner or to just hang out. I also have a small back garden with a built-in bar, another fun spot to hang out when the weather is nice. If I'm around you'll probably catch me cooking and I'm always happy to share whatever I make.
You'll be sharing the house with myself, my wife Kate, and my super-friendly cat, Jose. So if you're allergic to cats I'm sorry, but if you like cats you'll love him!
I want you to feel at home, so I'll keep the rules limited:
1. Feel free to use anything in the kitchen, but please clean up after yourself as well as you can.
2. I like to be a good neighbor, so if you're going to be rowdy please keep that inside or in the back garden area, and within reasonable hours.
That's it - otherwise, the only rule is common courtesy and enjoy your visit!
Very homey experience. Hosts were welcoming, pleasant, and generous with their space and food. The cat is friendly too! The twin mattress is very comfortably firm, the pillow was supportive, and the room has a nice light. I would have liked perhaps one extra bed pillow for reading in bed, but that's me! Street is easy to get to from City Center via bus or subway and not far from Broad Street. I did get to the recommended Ultimo cafe on my last morning and had a delicious mocha latte and almond croissant. The bathroom has a heat lamp, which was great when taking a shower, and there was a shelf for me to place my toiletries. The towels were soft and there were extra if I had needed them. The wireless was convenient and worked right away. They didn't mind me watching the cable after they had retired for the night. I forgot to ask how to use the coffeemaker for my last morning, but I couldn't have made anything as good as Ultimo's latte anyway! The host made brownies and scones which were delicious. They have lots of Philly literature and information in the room and that was helpful for the small amount of sightseeing I could do on a training weekend. The hosts were easy to talk to and friendly and made my short busy stay very pleasant. I would stay there again.
I had a nice (short) stay here and nothing but good things to say: clean, good location (close to the subway), and hosts that made me feel welcome, even though I didn't get a chance to meet them due to the fact that I was there for such a short time. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.
Even if he wasn't here when we arrived James succeeded in welcoming us in the best possible way : thank you again for the advice on paper and for being so organized !
Great place to stay, excellent location. I parked my car on the street and left it for three days during the week and it was fine.
James is a very accommodating host. While arriving in Philly, our bus was severely delayed, and yet he stayed up so that he could let us in. He was very helpful, and gave us a lot of information leaflets, maps and brochures about Philly that were really handy. We didn't really get to see him much, but was great to talk to when he was around. His cat was really cute and friendly.
He's a little far from where all the touristy attractions are, but it's really close to a metro station, so travelling around the city was not a problem at all!
Overall, a great first time airbnb experience!
James and his wife are really great hosts. The room was spacious, with AC and a very comfy bed. The flat has wireless Internet.
They answered all my questions and directed me to what I was looking for.
Thanks for hosting me!
Nice hosts, nice place. Convenient to public transportation, restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Parking is available on the street for free (I found a spot within 1 block every time).
This was my first ever stay at an airbnb, and I will definitely do it again.
I'm orginally from the small town of Hopkinsville, Kentucky but I have now been in Philadelphia for 9+ years after coming here for college. I have been a real estate agent for the past five years, and have gotten to know the city very well . I enjoy reading good books, hiking, biking, traveling, gardening, playing music, cooking, and eating. I'm happy to make recommendations on the best ways to enjoy these and other activities in and around Philly!
