ABOUT a small cozy house NOSTALJI:
This place is HOME STAY style. Not a Guest house. Hotel, neither. I want you to experience something different in Japan, especially in Kyoto. Not staying at hotels, guest houses or backpacker’s houses but staying in a unique place where you can do only in Kyoto, that is to say, TOMO's house NOSTALJI ．We need to have "HOMESTAY CONTRACT". If you do not respect the rules, deposit is not refundable.
The purpose of your visiting me should be not staying with me as a tourist but living as part of the family even if it's for a short time. Don't miss the chance to have the same life-style as local Japanese people do! Many Japanese are not rich at all. Neither am I. So please do not expect too much. Dinner is simple and my house is very small. So do many Japanese.
Location is very good, it's just 10 minutes walk from Central Kyoto station so you have easy access to many touristy places as well.
Dinner is included in the price. I'll prepare simple dinner for you. But if I have no time to prepare dinner for you, please choose one from below in stead.
①I can cook breakfast or brunch.
②I can pay back 500 yen/night to each person.
③I can give one-day-bus-pass to each person.
④You can have a rental bike for free for canceled dinner.
If you decide not to have dinner at Nostalji, I'm sorry it's not refundable and there is no option.
Possibly between 11:00 and 18:00 please go out. In case you want to stay home all day and turn on air-conditioning (summer) or heater (winter), I have to charge 500 yen for extra utilities.
I hope my place will be your second house in Japan.
Washing clothes: One time is for free during your stay.
Oh, one more important thing.
This house has 3 rooms. One is a kitchen. Another is a living room and the other is a bunk bed room (for 2 people). If you are a solo traveller, please go to th other listing "Nostalji for 1: Dinner include". [RENTAL BIKE]
600yen/day. I have two bikes. But if you stay at Chian (100 year old house) at least one night, it's free for one day.
A shower room with hot water is outside. I put a small heater there. But I recommend you to go to public bath(bath house/510yen) just near my house if you are not used to cold weather.
Using Airconditioning... 500yen/12 hours
Using Washing machine..For free/first time
300yen/2nd time or more
When you send me a booking request, please mention that you agreed with all the conditions and rules. And if you are with someone, please tell me about him/her.
Ahhh this man is very original
If you like the adventure you can try to rent his place.
He doesn't accept us in this house but, only fews hours before our arriving he ask us to change and he hosted us in the other side of the town in to a big 100 years old house, typical but with the same comforts than 100 years ago…….
He is honest he refund us about the dinner than we never had, the taxi for our transfers but our arriving was really a shock! and we lost our first evening in Kyoto.
He is a good person but, before book his place, try to know him better and ask him to respect your rules as you accept his severals rules.
We only stayed with Tomo for one night but it was long enough to see the big heart this guy has. He popped on some jazz tunes while he cooked us dinner - it was just like being in a good friend's home. A very unique experience, highly recommended!
Had a wonderful time staying with Tomosan! Quirky house, lovely man and friendly vibes, couldn't recommend a stay here higher
Great stay with Tomo-san. He hooked my band up with a gig in Kyoto, cooked a delicious meal for us, and we had a great jam with him! Lovely man - thank Tomo-san!
TOMOsan's place is as advertised; a small and cozy place.
Don't expect any luxuries; a squat toilet, bunk beds, a very steep staircase and a shower outside.
That said; we slept really well, the shower was better than expected and we had a great experience living in a typical Kyoto house.
(But squat toilets? In Belgium we call them French toilets, In France they call them Arabic...
Understandably nobody wants to take credit!)
The reviews are right -- our stay was such a unique and personable experience. The biggest perk is dinner with Tomo, who is an amazing cook and a genuinely kind- hearted individual. He is beyond accomodating and flexible. Right when we arrived, he had a map drawn out, complete with directions on how to get to our destination. He also gave us a bus map of Kyoto and gave recommendations for other sites to visit that are less touristy and crowded. Tomo is also quite the entertainer (musician/magician/comedian) -- your stay will not be boring!
We arrived in November and it was a bit chilly but Tomo had plenty of thick blankets for us in addition to a hand and body towel and even a blow-dryer! He thinks of everything. We also had an entertainment area (like you see in the picture) all to ourselves stocked with pretty cool selection of music. His shower is also pretty awesome!
We ended up staying an extra 2 days because we had such a great time and now a good friend in Kyoto.
During our time there, Tomo was opening up his own hostel which has the same decor and feel of Nostalgi!
Our stay with Tomo-san was really incredible! It was so memorable and special! His cookings were definitly delicious (and he is so toughtful because we are muslim and cannot eat pork so he prepared everything specially for us!) we really enjoyed his music too! What a talent. Tomosan is a very inspirational person and his place is just as amazing since it is so cozy. If you really want to experience a JAPANESE style house, this is the perfect place. It is also very near the most touristic busroutes/station and the Kyoto Station (we walked from Tomosans house to the station with our 30kg backpacks with no problem :)) Also his cellphone was really relieving.
Tomosan knows extremely much about what to see and whatnot how to go there etc. and he just helped us making a special plan. If we go back, we'll definitly love to stay here (or at his new place) again!
Tomosan OKINI! :)
Remarkable experience at nostalgy. Tomosan was very nice to us and the location is very near from the Kyoto station. If you want to live an unique experience, you should go there without hesitation ! Tomosan is a very good cook and what he did for us was excellent and always different ! If we go to Kyoto again, we will definitely go there again ;-)
We had a good time staying at TOMO's house. TOMO is really a nice, interesting person who is full of energy. He sings, dances, plays music. He is also good at cooking Japanese Cuisin. We love what he cooked. After we came back to Singapore, we miss his cooking and music a lot. TOMO, thank you ^-^ !
This is Tomo's home; and it represents the very ESSENCE of Kyoto. If you are fortunate enough to be touched by it and share your true nature with it; you will have learned one of the lessons of life...honesty within.
And as Tomo describes, "...this is not a hotel..." he is right. It is Tomo's home; with it comes all the unique quirkiness, friendliness and helpfulness of who he is. My stay here with Tomo as host, gave me an opportunity to experience a little piece of Japan's deep and complex cultural heart.
A rare and unique way of discovering yourself by staying at Tomo's. Thank you.
