Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home quite immediately. Carol and Keith were very friendly and showed a keen interest in getting to know us. They were very helpful and were always keen to answer any question that we may have had.
The Studio Cottage was impeccable and very homely. We quite liked the style and the way in which the different decorative aspects of the place blended into each other. The classical and modern art paintings on the wall provided a chic yet homely atmosphere which was further enhanced by the books on the shelves available for the guest to read. The cottage was well furnished and the hosts can be commended for having anticipated for any eventualities that may have slipped the traveler’s mind (as it so often happens) - from bathroom accessories to kitchen utensils.
The fact that the place is situated in very close proximity to a shopping centre and restaurants, it allows one to take a pleasurable 10 min walk to the shops. In general, it has been a pleasure to stay at Carol & Keith’s place and there is no doubt that it has been ticked on our list of future places to spend our holidays again.
Carol and her husband welcomed us very warm and friendly, even for our big car they found a place. The small appartment in the garden was very clean and nice. We got very good tips for visiting Durban meanwhile our 4 days stay. That area of Durban is very quiet and nice.
Carol and Keith are very kind and helpful hosts! I enjoyed staying at their apartment in a quiet and safe area in Durban.
Arriving felt like a warm welcome. Thanks for our valuable conversations, dinner and your help, you made my stay by helping with giving just the right tips.
The cabin is nice, private, views a beautiful swimming pool and some heart-warming pets.
Would for sure come back, when in Durban!
Thank you Carol and Keith. A true home from home! The cottage was perfectly located, comfortable, quiet but also very close to shops and restaurants. The cottage had everything you need to feel at home. I will definitely be staying again next time I am in Durban. Highly recommended!
I was in Durban for the Indaba travel show- on business. As a hotelier and tour operator I wanted to escape the hotel and tourism crowd just for a bit :) I myself also own b&b, technically grew up in, so I always try to get that homey feeling at times during my travels.
I do not want to be harsh to Durban, but if it wasn't for Indaba I would never have visited it, partially for my ignorance about the city and partially because of iffy rep that the city has...
I can say now that I was soooo wrong ! As a hotelier, the importance of first impressions has been studied by many and implemented by few. I was blown away during my initial arrangements with Carol with her graciousness from arranging my car service to answering all of my questions before and during my stay.
I was a bit late with my arrival to her place but that was not a problem, I was sooo blown away - yet again, with the welcome that I got from Carol and her husband! The loveliest couple in the world !! As I was being shown the way to the lovely cottage, I was sooo charmed with the whole ambiance and had feeling that I am in the middle of "the midsummer night's dream" :) lights, nice pool and the lush garden with bohemian feel to it, made me forget why I was there.:)
Cottage is lovely, very clean and follows the cohesiveness of the whole place. It is located in a nice and convenient area of the city and close to the taxi station from where you can cheaply go anywhere. Also, very close, walking distance to the botanical garden - must see!
On your way from and to the airport, PLEASE ASK CAROL for car arrangement! Driver is their friend and charges less than any other taxi or car service (cars and taxis can be a bit shady in Durban).
My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to spend more time with Carol and her husband because of my work for they are such worldly and hospitable people - sorry Carol, I hope next time I will have more time:).
So don't think about should you book or not, just book it and have great time !

About the Host, Carol
I am an art curator working in South Africa and internationally. My husband Keith and I enjoy hosting people and therefore find airbnb a great occupation. We have a house which is over a hundred years old which we have modernized over the years. The self catering apartments are all in our tropical garden and guests enjoy the peace and calm whilst being close to the city. We have always and still travel extensively with Paris being a favorite destination. We also collect art which enhances our environment.
