Charming Bungalow near Light Rail

House - Private room · 31st Ave, Seattle, WA 98144, United States

The 1924 bungalow-style house is super convenient to Lake Washington and Mt. Baker Beach, as well as the light rail station to downtown (15 minutes) and the airport (26 minutes). Plus, the neighborhood is great for walking, eating and shopping.

The Space

The house has wi-fi and ample free street parking. The room has wood flooring, a large closet, a double bed and desk, and a view of a green and serene garden backyard, which you are welcome to use. The bathroom is shared among house residents, which include mom, occasional young adult daughter, international student and 2 cats (cats have separate facilities) Winston will stop by to check you out and will sleep with you if you keep your door ajar.

This cozy house has bright rooms, oriental carpets, and warm colors and furnishings combined with welcoming atmosphere in a great neighborhood. If you have time, be sure to walk to the lake and along the park that will take you 3 miles to Seward park, the home of a 120-acre old growth forest!

I compost and recycle, so please ask about that if you are cooking and eating in the house.

If two people prefer not to sleep in the same bed, I'm happy to set up a mattress on the floor for an additional $5/night.

* Third guest - $15 / night.
* One time cleaning fee of $10 for one or two nights.

Guest Access

Guests can use any of the shared living space and backyard. Feel free to use the fridge to store your food and the kitchen to cook, as long as you clean up after yourself.

Interaction with Guests

Guests can expect welcoming host, interesting conversation, and advice for getting around Seattle. Actually, chatting with guests is my favorite part about hosting. But if you want privacy, that's fine, too.

The Neighborhood

Mt. Baker is an old neighborhood with 100-year old houses and great architecture. You can easily walk to a grocery store (QFC), a drugstore (Rite Aid), hardware store (Lowes), restaurants (Italian, French, Ethiopian, Thai, American) parks, and Lake Washington.

Getting around

Light rail is a walk away. Four bus lines within walking distance can take you downtown (7, 14), across town (8,), and to the University District (48). There is information in the room about various sights and neighborhoods to check out, as well as bus schedules.

  • Kristin was an awesome host and her cats are so cute! The room was clean and spacious enough for the two of us to stay in for a few days. Overall great stay!

  • Kristin is very friendly and communicative. Her home is clean, relaxed, homely and welcoming. We stayed for a whole week and just met in the early morning before she left and in the evening when we got home. But there was always a light, welcoming atmosphere.

Information on the web-page is complete and fits reality.

    Thanks Kristin, for your hospitality.

Worth to mention is the QFC market a few blocks away on Rainier Ave. S. It's not cheap, but if you look well, you can buy all the healthy stuff you may need for reasonable prices. With bus 14 to Downtown you pass a cheap and good fruit market on 31st and on S Jackson Str near 23rd Ave S the Red Apple Market.

  • My girlfriend and I had a great time at Kristin's. She was really nice to talk to and gave us some great food recommandations for the beautiful Mt. Baker Neigbourhood.
The place itself was also nice. Close enough to the city to get there quickly and far enough away to relax in the evening.
Kristin's charming cat Winston made the relaxing part even easier!
We'd love to come again one day.

  • Kristen was a great host! She was lovely and interested but knew when to give you your own space. She even invited us to a slide night - so lovely!
The room was great along with Winston! I fell in love. Such a beautiful and warm kitty cat. A good location only 15 mins away from downtown. Thanks for having us :D

    Response from Kristin:

I hated to cancel YingYu's reservation, but I found out I was expected at an out of town conference and my usual backup host was not available. Thanks to YingYu for being graciously understanding.

  • Easy stay. Kristin made everything simple. Awesome!

I'm from the East Coast but have been in Seattle for many years. I love to travel, but since I'm not traveling these days, I enjoy meeting people who are! I have hosted international students since 1992. Being in the NW, I like to get out to the mountains and islands on foot, wheels, skis or kayak. In town, I do (New England) contra dancing and will happily drag you along if you are interested.
