it was awesome!
Jacobe's house is beautiful and his deck overlooks the beautiful Pacific ocean. When we arrived, there was already a fire crackling in the iron stove and we had a great time relaxing.
His kitchen was more than adequate and we enjoyed a nice evening cooking, baking bread, and talking.
Beautiful spot. View is actually better than advertised.
As others have reviewed, the view of the sea is spectacular, and that is indeed the attraction. It is a good value for the money.
The rest of the experience that is relevant for future customers:
1. The heater never worked, and we endured two nights and three days of cold. Owner was out of country and could not help.
2. DSL signal lost to router. Owner never could help either
3. This is a rustic place. Do not expect accommodations typical of a say a modern hotel room. Dirt road access, downstairs rented to roomers (who were cool), one bathroom (any more than two adults are a challenge.)
4. Lastly, a problem for Airbnb to solve - we booked this last minute, about 26 hours before the stay. The owner literally took the last minute to confirm. He beat the deadline by 15 minutes. We were all ready to just forget it and started to make plans. The last minute acceptance caused us to scramble big time. It seems Airbnb ought to change the rule for short fused requests, and force owners to reply sooner, like within eight hours.
Seating on the deck looking at the view is heaven. The ocean, San Francisco in the back and the surfers waiting for the next wave: really cool and relaxing.
The flat itself is nice, yet rustic. The living room is slightly smaller than I had imagined, but there is a large dinner table and large kitchen (with view!) that gives you a lot of space to gather. The two bedrooms are comfortable (one remains super cold as it never gets sun in winter). Good for four people, not so great for more (sofa bed in the living room, only one bathroom).
We didn't manage to have the hot tube, wifi and heater work during our two days/two nights stay, and they were a few other missing amenities (no bed linen for the 5th person, no kitchen towel). The owner was actually out of the country and couldn't help. He had left the downstairs tenants in charge, but they didn't know how to fix these. This made communication quite complicated and created a lot of frustration. The owner was however very understanding (when eventually we managed to contact him after we had left) and we agreed on a partial refund to make up for these disagreements. I’ll watch out for the next few reviews, and if the above mentioned elements get fixed, I might considered staying at the house again /recommending it.
Positive feedback on Airbnb team who was super helpful in sorting things out on this one. Now I know why we pay Airbnb fees and it's worth it!
We stayed here for 3 nights before Christmas and enjoyed it very much. Lovely spot, views, hot tub. We were 4 adults and we were very comfortable in the house. A few unexpected things to share though:
The furnishings have changed quite a bit since the photos. Most notably for us – there is no gas grill on the deck.
Wood burning heat is the ONLY heat in the house. We arrived late afternoon (after flights from the East Coast) to a very cold house. So we turned on the heat – there is a thermostat on the living room wall. An hour later, still in our coats, we realized there was no central heat and began to stoke the fire. Added caveat: there is plenty of firewood, but you have to chop your own kindling and come up with your own paper.
Same evening, the space heaters in the bedrooms blew the circuit breakers and we had to scout in/outside for the electrical box to restore power.
During this time we tried to reach the owner for assistance/clarification but were unsuccessful. There were no written instructions in the house.
Once we figured everything out, we had a wonderful time. I would recommend the house with the above disclosures, though feel the rental is overpriced, given the challenges.
We had a great time & actually locked ourselves out. Despite being remote, he was able to take care of us by planning ahead with his neighbors. There was a septic tank issue where their septic tank broke and was leaking into the neighbors house. We couldn't use the bathroom for some portion of the day.
Definitely recommend the place. Great dude.
This was a fabulous location, right above the ocean listening to the waves and a short walk down to the beach or into the small town center of Bolinas. We had a nice fire in the wood burning stove at night. And luckily for us the weather cooperated nicely, staying warm and mostly clear. If we'd been socked in with wind and fog it would have been a disappointment not to be able to take advantage of the views and the deck and the beach. But at least there is still the hot tub!
The apartment was spacious. The atmosphere did not have a resort-like feel or that of a 'vacation home': it was very personal and home-y, so your experience of the ambiance will depend somewhat on how you mesh with tastes of the owner. The kitchen was easy to use. Accommodations were comfortable, but not luxurious. The bed was very firm - fine with me, but not as comfy for my companion. I would repeat a stay here - it's all about the location. Thanks to Jacobe for sharing his home!
We had a great thanksgiving here! The house was great with a well stocked kitchen for cooking the big meal and the views were amazing!
We spent an unbelievable time, the view & the house are even better in real than on the pictures. Thank you Jacobe for being so accomodating !
