About this listing
This is a traditional cave house that is situated on the cliffs of Oia, Santorini, and more specifically in the neighborhood of St.Spyridon. This house is amongst the top privileged ones, having a stunning view over the caldera, a breathtaking scenery that most of us have enjoyed only through postcards or advertising imagery. To add to that, it is located right on the side of the most photographed church, St. Spyridons’, the one with the 2 blue domes.
The house is 83sqm and features a huge veranda of 43sqm.
It consists of three bedrooms, one of which is a fully autonomous master bedroom, a large vaulted living room, bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. It can comfortably accommodate 7 people, whether couples or families with children or even large groups of friends. It has three double beds and one single bed.
The residence is decorated with beautiful antique furniture.
This is a self catering accommodation.
Amenities provided: towels, bed linen.
This cave house is great! It fit the five of us very well, and is quite cool and pleasant even on hot days. The view from the patio is spectacular, and the location is great, so good, in fact, that it draws wedding parties, tourists and photographers from 9:00 am to sunset. Luckily, Anna, the older Greek lady that lives nearby was fantastic at keeping people off the roof! Yiannis, the fellow who helps the renters of Blue Dome was absolutely fantastic! He helped us find restaurants, beaches, pools, and he organized transport for us. He even took our teenagers out to the nightclubs in Thera. He is a gem!
The Bluedome Cave House was everything we imagined and more. If you are after the true Santorini Experience then it does not get better than the Bluedome Cave House. The views from the front porch are picture perfect literally, whilst sitting outside enjoying the view yourself you will feature in photographs going all around the world. You will also become an expert in wedding photography. The house is perfect for two couples with plenty of space, you're right in the middle of it all and in the best part of Santorini (Oia). It is quiet and peaceful but close enough to the action when required.
Giannis was absolutely exceptional from the moment we landed via ferry to the moment he put us in our taxi transfer to the airport he was available literally anytime of the day and without fault co-ordinated and arranged everything we asked of him. Giannis is the man about Oia and makes you feel right at home from the get go.
For the best coffee, juices and smoothies get down to Passaggio. 1800 do a 'solid' without being amazing evening meal with a nice rooftop view and Ammoudi Fish Tavern needs to be done one evening for your seafood experience, enjoy the walk home after!!!!!!
Thank you very much for making our Santorini stay the best!!!
The cave house was perfect for a dream vacation in Santorini. There were three of us staying there, so we had plenty of room. We loved the location - being in the center of Oia and walking distance to many great restaurants, bars, shops, and hikes was awesome. We cooked breakfast in the kitchen every morning and ate on the porch while watching the tourists and enjoying the incredible view of the Caldera. It was definitely entertaining to see so many people (and weddings) from around the world, but as other reviewers have mentioned, it's not exactly quiet during the day because of the crowds - if you're okay with that, it's the perfect place for you. We had a small problem with humidity/mold towards the second half, but Jiannis was extremely accommodating and helpful and we are sure that they have dealt with the issue for future guests. Overall, if you are visiting Santorini, Oia is the best place to be, and if you're living in Oia, this is the best place to stay.
The view from the Blue Dome Cave house is amazing! Giannis was wonderful as well, helping us make reservations for sunset dinners and arranging our transportation.
There are many tourists that take pictures around the house on a daily basis but other than trying to pass them going up the stairs they are not a problem. There are 61 steps down from the main walkway to the house, something to keep in mind. The location is great and there are any wonderful shops and restaurants nearby.
My party of five thoroughly enjoyed the lovely view at the Blue Dome Cave House. Every morning and evening, we chilled outside to soak in the view.
Yiannis arranged our roundtrip taxi/shuttle from the port to Oia. Yiannis and his colleague helped us carry our heavy luggage up and down the steps to the house on our arrival and departure. Half way into our stay, the shower cord broke. We contacted Yiannis and he showed up an hour later with a brand new cord, and he installed it right away. He was amazing!
On the other hand, we didn't realize that there were countless tourists around the house from 8am to 9pm, which was a nuisance. They were loud and they would trespass onto private property to take photos - on people's roofs and inside people's courtyard. Additionally, many pre-wedding photos are shot around the house. Thankfully, a neighbouring elderly woman would sometimes yell when people trespassed - she was like a neighbourhood security guard. :)
Lastly, we did find the house very damp, despite turning on the dehumidifier and emptying the water every day.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and we're looking forward to stay here again in the future!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the blue dome cave house! It was a dream from the moment Jiannis showed up and carried all of our luggage down those many steps to the house. The view is amazing, the house is idyllic, and the location is perfect. This is THE spot to be if you want to stay in Oia. Jiannis was a very kind, friendly, welcoming, knowledgable host and we feel so grateful to have met him! He is also a big deal on the island and will get you into to all the hot spots ;)
The views of the Caldara and Oia from the porch were absolutely gorgeous just as described in the other reviews. And the home was centrally located in Oia so it was very easy access to shops and places to eat. We found the space was roomy enough to fit all 5 of us very comfortably. Yiannis was very welcoming: he met us at the bus, carried our bags to the house and made sure that any needs we had were taken care of.
From other reviews I had been expecting lots of tourists taking pictures around us, but I had thought this would mean people stopping by and snapping pictures as they walked by. What I had not expected was that there were a steady stream of professional photographers that set up shop on the walkway right outside our porch, and even on our roof. Mostly they were taking pictures of Chinese brides in full regalia, often accompanied by large, talkative family groups. The steady stream of these groups from 10 AM till dusk did detract from our enjoyment of the beautiful surroundings.

About the Host, Bluedome
My family is from Santorini. I used to spend my summers in Oia as a child and has always been a special place for me. My goal is to share this experience with other people.
