Breathtaking mountain view in upscale quiet neighborhood on the Windward side of the island of O'ahu. Avoid the night-long noise of bustling Waikiki for some rest in between daytime adventures in our contemporary style home. About 3 miles to beautiful Kailua and Lanikai beaches, often rated in the top 10 in the world. Kayaks, surfboards and other water-sport can be rented by Kailua beach.
2 miles to charming downtown Kailua Town with plenty of local boutique shops and many restaurants of all different cuisines. We also have a nice $6 movie theater (4-screens) and a small shopping center (market, restaurants, Starbucks) a half mile (1 km) from the house. Close to many popular hiking trails. Municipal buses go everywhere on the island and there are stops at either end of our street. But, we are at the top of a steep hill, so you might prefer renting a car at the airport. Only a 30 min drive to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay. Also convenient for a beautiful coastal drive up to the famous North Shore.
Your end of the upstairs hallway has the Private room with QUEEN size platform bed and full closet and a full bath with tub & shower. Starting July, I will have a friend as a long term renter in an adjacent room, with whom you would share the bathroom. She is very nice, over 50, and stays mostly at her boyfriend’s place. Your host's master bedroom is at the other end of the hall, separated by a home office. Backyard has a large pool and oversize spa off the lanai (patio) and an enclosed outdoor shower & dressing room on the side yard. BBQ and / or eat outside (island style) at the table and chairs on the lanai. Wireless internet works throughout the property.
We share the common areas - family room with 50" 3-D TV with cable, Wii, etc. Large living room (with a TV) and formal dining room with a cathedral ceiling, breakfast room with a view of the mountains, the lanai, 1/2 bath downstairs, and a full kitchen including dishwasher, oven, microwave, toaster oven, large refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker and a new washer/dryer in the garage. Completely fenced yard for privacy includes an outdoor clothesline. All rooms have ceiling fans and extra fans are available. There is some AC in the house, but hardly ever needed. Your host is a busy professional and has 3 friendly indoor cats. Tradewind breezes keep plenty of fresh air flowing in and cat dander out. We try to be very accommodating.
We are not extremely active, but will be happy to give you pointers and info to help you enjoy your stay. We keep beach mats and a couple of boogie boards for use by guests. We'll also teach you how to pronounce Hawaiian street names and a few words you'll be hearing to get you by.
Please book at least a few days in advance of your arrival due to delays in communicating across time zones. (6 hours earlier here than Eastern Standard time, 10 hours earlier than Greenwich Mean Time.)
You'll have a key to the house. We'll share the common areas. I occasionally have weekend parties, at which you are welcome.
Interaction with Guests
This is your vacation, so up to you whether you want minimum interaction or a nightly chat to help plan your activities. I leave early for work and often come home late, but you'll have my cell phone number if needed.
This is an upscale neighborhood, with well maintained properties. Not your typical Oahu neighborhood. Mainlanders will feel comfortable staying here. Very nice, friendly neighbors.
There's good bus service on the island. But, my house is at the top of a hill and the bus stops are at either end. The good news is we're safe from tsunamis up here on the hill. ;^)
Other Things to Note
The house is not childproof, so no infants or toddlers.
no glass near the pool - we do have nice plastic goblets and glasses.
We keep screen doors closed to keep our cats indoors.
We try to leave the beach outside - we have an enclosed outdoor shower.
Must clean up after yourselves in the kitchen - dishes into dishwasher, and hand-wash pots and wooden utensils.
No indoor smoking and no heavy smokers, please.
Mistreatment of our pets will not be tolerated.
It was our first time using Airbnb and we are lucky to stay at Mark's house. Mark is a wonderful and helpful host who made our stay comfortable. The location is quiet and convenient. Thanks to Mark's guestbook and further recommendations which helped us plan our itinerary during our stay. Highly recommended.
Mark è stato molto premuroso e accogliente lasciandoci comunque piena libertà e riservatezza.
The only word to describe the house is paradise. Mark is nice, courteous and warm, he makes you feel like stay at grandpa`s home. And Say hello to the King-Bad man and two Queens, three lovely cats.
Thank you, Mark. Drink less, :P

We had a wonderfull vacation in Mark's house!!House is clean, quiet, can relax.Mark was a perfect host!!!It was our great experience in Hawaii.Mahalo.
Love staying in the outskirts of Kailua. The view is breathtaking. Mark is a delightful host. Even though I lived on Oahu in the past, there are always questions and he is knowledgeable about so many events on the island. Great accommodations, he made me feel right at home.
Mark was a very professional host. We had everything we needed for a relaxing trip -- lounge chair & towels for the beach, boogie boards and even hats. He was attentive and yet knows how to give his guest enough privacy. Also, his backyard view is even better than the photo. Would highly recommend if you have a car.
The House and everything else was just great. Mark was a good host and we felt like living at home. We would definitiv come back for another stay.
Professional from O'ahu, Hawai'i, working in IT as a Project Manager. I'm originally from Boston and Providence, and have been lucky to have lived in Hawaii for the past 8 years. I love animals, movies, good food, travel, good conversation, and meeting people from around the world.
My goal is for you to enjoy the vacation the way YOU want to. Some guests like a lot of interaction and some prefer minimal contact during their stay. This is all up to YOU.
