Kayaks, surfboards and other water-sport rentals by Kailua beach. 30 - 40 min drive to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, or upscale and outlet malls. 2 miles to charming downtown Kailua Town with plenty of local shops and local restaurants. (Also a new Target store.) Close to many hiking trails. Includes parking. City buses go everywhere on the island and there are stops at either end of our street. But, we are at the top of a hill, so you might prefer renting a car at the airport or in Kailua. We also have a nice $6 movie theater (4-screens) and a little shopping center 1/2 mile from the house. I will be happy to give you pointers and info to help you enjoy your stay. I can also teach you how to pronounce Hawaiian street names and a few words you'll be hearing to get you by. My goal is for you to have a wonderful vacation.
Please book at least a few days in advance of your arrival due to delays in communicating across time zones - 6 hours earlier here than Eastern Standard time, 10 hours earlier than Greenwich, England , and ½ a day to much of the rest of the world. Please read my reviews.
You'll have a key to the house. We'll share the common areas. I occasionally have weekend BBQ / Game Nights, at which you are welcome.
Interaction with Guests
This is your vacation, so up to you whether you want minimal interaction or regular chats to help plan your activities. I sometimes leave early for work and often come home late, but you'll always have my cell phone number.
This is an upscale neighborhood, with well maintained properties. Not your typical Oahu neighborhood. Mainlanders feel very comfortable staying here. Very nice, friendly neighbors.
There's good bus service on the island. But, my house is at the top of a hill and the bus stops are at either end. So car is easier. The good news is we're safe from tsunamis up here on the hill. ;^)
Other Things to Note
The house is not childproof, so no infants or toddlers. A second bedroom is available for an additional $50 per night. If you want this, let me know and I will reply with a special offer - it is not rented separately.
no glass near the pool - we do have nice plastic goblets and glasses.
We keep screen doors closed to keep our cats indoors.
We try to leave the beach outside - we have an enclosed outdoor shower.
Must clean up after yourselves in the kitchen - dishes into dishwasher, and hand-wash pots and wooden utensils.
No indoor smoking and no heavy smokers, please.
Mistreatment of our pets will not be tolerated.
We enjoyed our stay at Mark's house. The room was as described. The backyard had a lovely view. Mark is a great host--very friendly amd welcoming. His cats are wonderful. We would stay with him again.
Mr. Mark is a very hospitable host prepared an elaborate greeting card with guest room label on the door and printed house guidance pamphlet on the bed. All warm and sweet details gave us as the first time strange guests much comfortable and hospitalbe.
House is so big especally for ordinary chinese civilians, and in that block, there are few houses equipped with well-maintained pool and spa. Inside the house, every thing is clean and neat,well-equipped kitchen room and living room. Mark explained how to use those utilities and facilities in kitchen, pool, yard, machines etc with patience. Mark also prepared plenty of guide books how to play and have a fun in Oahu island and Kailua (website hidden) the wardrobe of guest room, host provides many folded articles like beach parasol, snorkel mask, beach chairs, ice pack etc. In the guest private lavetory, many considerate small wash kit and cosmetics beauty kit provided by host.
Because we are a couple spending our honey moon in Hawaii,Mr.Mark specially purchased a nice champagne for us. We enjoyed that sweety champagn besides pool under the full moon, so sweety! One of reasons we choose the house, is the parking guest car is so convienient and just around the house door. After travling in Waikiki beach and Kailua town, I and my wife both agree that Kailua town is much better and more fun than Waikiki.
Mark was awesome and so was his house! First of all, it is in a great location with a ton of grocery stores and things to do around. He was so hospitable and gave us free reign of his entire house. It was exactly what I was expecting by reading his description on Air BnB and I couldn't have been any happier with this choice. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to stay somewhere out of town and for a quite and cool place to relax.
Marks place is great and he's a great host. He has a big hospitality and he is quick to respond. If you are looking for a place to relax, this is the place to stay at. Nice house, great views and not to far from Kailua beach if you have a car.
it's a perfect house with a perfect host! Mark is a nice guy, he gave us many advices for our vacation. His house is clean, beautiful and quiet！we enjoin our vacation in Mark's house!
Mark was warm and welcoming throughout our stay. He made us feel right at home upon our arrival. He showed interest in our vacation agenda and experiences and always let us know whatever extras he provided to make it more enjoyable and at ease (guide books, beach towels and gear, cooler, bottled water). The home was always clean and comfortable. All the areas in the profile were available for our personal use. The neighborhood is well kept, quiet and family friendly. We felt very secure coming and going throughout the day and evening.
It was our first time using Airbnb and we are lucky to stay at Mark's house. Mark is a wonderful and helpful host who made our stay comfortable. The location is quiet and convenient. Thanks to Mark's guestbook and further recommendations which helped us plan our itinerary during our stay. Highly recommended.
