About This Listing
If you like the mountains, views, gardens, sunrises, sunsets, bocce, privacy, birds, and the like, you are found! Zen paradise that makes you feel like you are on another planet, yet you are very close to beaches, parks, restaurants, and culture.
Hello! Please check out the photos on my other listing of the same house (in my profile called "heaven on earth"). The pictures on this room need updating, as we have done some work on the house and yard to make it a bit more spectacular! If you are looking for a beautiful setting, peace, redwoods, and relaxation, you've found it!
Watch fireworks from the house on the 4th of July! Unreal, distant views of an incredible firework show without leaving the house. No traffic. No entry fees. No crowds! Just a glass of wine and a great view.
Top reasons people stay here (and come back):
1.) Best view of Santa Cruz Mountains ever. With two decks that are bigger then most apartments, you can choose to sit on our front deck and float high above the valley with views downtown Felton. OR you can chill on the back beck with a fire-pit table and the most stunning outline of distant mountain ranges, as hundred foot trees dance as the breeze blows.
2.) My obsession with birds has lead to many feeders, and lots of finches, turkeys, hummingbirds, and even a hawks nest.
3.) My hot tub is so relaxing. Best place in the WORLD to float among the tree limbs (like a bird). Sunrise central.
4.) Santa Cruz hotels are incredibly run down, expensive, laden with unending traffic, and in poor areas of town. My house is private, light and airy. It will make you feel relaxed.
5.) We just installed a huge bocce court in the back yard, we have a nice pool table, and on not windy days summer days, we have a ping pong table out. Cool to relax at home.
6.) There is a million things to do within a few miles. Beaches, zip lines in the redwoods at Mount Hermon, many parks with hiking, restaurants, Loch Lomond, wine tasting, horseback riding, and much more. Born and raised here, I can give you guidance of cool stuff to see and do- Santa Cruz is so much more then a Boardwalk!
7.) There is about 10 places to sit and read a book or magazines, undisturbed to the sound of the forrest. We are so fortunate to enjoy the solitude on the hill.
The rooms we host in are the ones with the pinball machine, and the one with the pots on a shelf on the wall.
15 minutes from UCSC. 20 minutes from Beach. 10 minutes from Henry Coewell State Park. Feel like your a thousand miles from anyone. This house is situated high on a hill, no neighbors to see. Yet just 5 minutes off highway 9. Outside of the Santa Cruz "fog belt," sunny most months of the year. Join us for Open Studios in October!
Panoramic views of mountains, Scotts Valley, and Felton. 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2600 sf. Ten acres. Gated driveway, house has state-of-the-art alarm, for further ease of mind. Two huge decks for sunning, both with jaw dropping views of the mountains. Features full kitchen with nice appliances, two outdoor eating areas, two indoor dining areas, pool table with plasma tv, TV with satellite in room, wireless internet. Sprawling lawns, various roses, heirloom tomatoes, even fresh organic eggs from my chickens. Parking is off street, and gated. Yoga room. Laundry. Pick up some take-out, and sit outside on the decks and enjoy the the outdoor speakers on both decks and all living areas. Seasonally decorated (love goofy holiday decor!).
Huge and awesome Cal-King bed (an incredibly comfortable, new, and sleep inducing bed wrapped in high-thread count, white sheets). Beautiful views. Private and clean. Next to large and clean red bathroom. Dresser to place your things. 42" TV with Dish Hopper service, view of woods, overlaying mountain ranges, birds, bocce, and veggie garden. Normally I only have one extra room rented, meaning you would have exclusive use of the bath. However, I sometimes have friends or an addtional airbnb guest, and in those times the bathroom would be shared.
TOT included in price (county tax).
We do have video surveillance all over the property- of course it is not in your room or bathroom.
This is a wonderful neighborhood, filled with nice families who mostly commute to SF or SJ. Crazy, but living here is worth it! Regarding services and businesses have one of everything, and each is excellent.
You need a car.
Enjoy your time here! It is a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy life.
We do require a two night stay for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday check-in.
We require people sign a waiver as soon as they arrive. (It's paradise, but its still America)
Please, no smoking permitted on the mountain- Middle of a forest and not worth the fire risk.
Please do not go in master bedroom, office, or garage. Mostly becuase I have to keep the clutter somewhere :)
Please don't wear shoes in the house- we recently had our floors refinished.
We don't eat beef or pork, and kindly request it not cooked in the kitchen or BBQ.
My dog Teak (the big black lab) is convinced she is the queen of the earth, and does not allow me to allow other four legged friends on the hill.
Please be smart about water use. Of course you may shower, and in fact, we would appreciate that you do this. Lol. But we are in the worst drought on record, have no municipal water, and need to conserve wherever we can. Thank you in advance for cooperating on this!
When you use the hot tub- help us keep it clean for you. Take a quick shower first (I won't explain the need for this!) Please use plastic cups (never glass). Close it when your done (turn off jets and lights) and release the lid lock. Never force the cover closed- if its difficult at all, the safety bar has not been released. If you cannot close it, or it feels like it is taking any level of force, please ask for assistance, we don't mind at all!
Lastly, we have a wonderful house keeper who comes on the last day you are here. She comes between 11 and 12, so we must be strict with our check out time. Occasionally, we have had guests not notice the check out hour, and our poor housekeeper waits to get started.
I absolutely loved this stay at Justin's place in the mountains! First of all, Justin makes you feel completely at home in their magnificant house. Secondly, the views just simply cannot be beat. You are at the top of a hill looking over the mountains on either side, where you can relax with your coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. The hot tub is a treat, and though I never got to use the bocce ball court, it has great views as well :) . The bed was the most comfortable thing I've slept on in ages. BIG thanks for all the tips and easy communication. I'll definitely be back if possible :)
What a fun and welcoming experience with Justin and Jaye! They were extremely warm, kind and hospitable! The house was epic, tidy and gorgeous. I had a lovely time and will definitely be back to enjoy the Santa Cruz mountains, sunshine, and laughter. Thanks again!!!
We had a fantastic time at Justin's home. The spot is amaing - absolutely gorgeous and spectacularly maintained. They were the most gracious of hosts, and had a ton of fantastic ideas on what to do in the area and where to have breakfast / dinner et cetera.
We 100% recommend staying with Justin.
This was our first Airbnb experience and we were not sure what to expect honestly...but we had a blast! Justin and Jaye are awesome hosts and their home is amazing! The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom close by and roomy. Yes, there will likely be other people staying in the room next door and sharing your bathroom, so you have to keep that in mind, but we are not people who stay inside for very long and it didn't bother us. We love to be outside doing things and this property is so large, it was easy to find your own "space" and there is a lot to do on the property itself - bocce ball, hot tubbing, playing pool, relaxing on the front porch swing, enjoying a bottle of wine by the firepit table...
We really enjoyed hanging out with our hosts and appreciate that they invited us to join them in listening to a Fleetwood Mac cover band in Felton Saturday night. And if you love to mt bike or hike in the hills, this is the place to stay! The hot tub is a great reward after a long ride too! I would definitely stay again, even by myself, because Justin and Jaye are so accommodating and fun you don't have to actually be there with someone to have a good time. If you want to get away from it all, bring a book...there are so many places to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet on this property!
So in summary, unless you are looking for a place with 100% privacy, this home is a great find!

Now I know what it takes to have 5 stars with 100 reviews. Justin and Jay go above and beyond to make their guests' visit memorable. We felt like we were hanging out with friends while there... relaxing and beautiful house and yard.. can't wait to go back. cheers guys!
One of my favorite Airbnb experiences so far. The location and the landscaping were both gorgeous (loved the front deck), Justin was a very friendly & accommodating host, and my wife and I had SO much fun playing fetch with the dog Sam. We'd love to come back again.
Wow, what a beautiful place. This is one of the most amazing houses I have ever been to. The house is set on a hill and feels very remote, as it is surrounded by forest. However it is only a few minutes drive from a sweet little village and 25 minutes drive to Santa Cruz. They have a gorgeous dog and wild deer on the property.
Justin and Jay are really lovely people and were very warm and made us feel at home. I would definitely recommend this place!

About the Host, Justin
Good day! My partner Jaye and our pups Teak & Sam (Smith) look forward to meeting you. We grew up in Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz, and can point out a thousand things to do on your visit. We get along with everyone. Hobbies are house projects, running, food (local produce and heirloom vegetables), computers/electronics, hiking, restaurants, real estate, art appreciation, p90x (need to do more of this), happy hours/wine bars, campy holiday decorations, chicken watching (WAY cooler then a fish tank and you get eggs), museums, and meeting good people.
