Today Balchik is a small but very romantic Bulgarian seaside town. With its white rocks, and houses standing in tiers, this is a preferred place for rest and tourism by the people of art and culture, scientists and foreign visitors. With its narrow streets and picturesque landscape, the town is a living symbol of a peaceful world.
One of the most interesting places in the vicinity of the town is the Palace "Quiet Nest" - a modest building constructed upon three terraces, combining elements of the Moor style, Mediterranean architecture and the typical Bulgarian house. The extravagant minaret renders a touch of oriental opulence to the building. The architectural complex was built by Italian architects Amerigo and Agustino within the period (phone number hidden). It was the summer residence of the Romanian queen at the time of the Romanian occupation of South Dobroudzha.
The place is famous mainly for its exotic botanical garden - the biggest and most diverse in the Balkans. Flowers and trees from the Mediterranean islands, the Pacific Ocean, the Black Sea, South Asia, and America delight the visitor. The garden is a "residence" of about 3,000 species (over 250 of which are cactuses), set up between waterfalls, streams and ornamental canals.
The area of Touzlata is located 4 km. east of the town and is well known for its curing mud. A balneo center was built here beside the two lakes, formed by old landslide. It receives patients suffering from disorders of the bones. A large recreation complex, a lot of villas, bungalows and a camping site have been built here. There is a mineral water spring with temperature of 31oC
There are three modern golf courses in close proximity to Balchik. The engagement of the world class designers as Gary Player and Ian Woodsman make the place a nice European golf (email hidden)ere are also other interesting places in the region – the village of Kranevo, the rock capital of Bulgaria – town of Kavarna, as well as many camping sites. The reservation of the Kaliakra fortress is also near. Balchik and the region around it offer diverse accommodation, catering and entertainment options.
The yacht port offers a variety of cruises and water sport activity.
There is no doubt, however, that Balchik is most popular for its possibilities for sea tourism. The beautiful beaches in the region around the town, as well as the fresh nature attract many tourists in the summer months.
Information materials about the cultural sites and Balchik are sold in all museums and the gallery.
There are live performances every day at about 4pm. You may enjoy listening to the Bulgarian folk music and watching Bulgarian folk dances. It is free of charge. And you do not need to be a guest at the casle. Just walk to the castle and see it from the beach
Apart from the big restaurants in the palace, in the hotels and downtown, there are a number of small private restaurants, coastal stalls offering seafood, pizzas, spaghetti and other kinds of European cuisine. The grocer's shops are a good opportunity for practical tourists who cook for themselves.
For children 10 years old and older.
The appartment looks great and it has all that you need. It's very confortable and the view from the balcony is good (you can see the swimming pool). The location is not so difficult to find, since the building is across Hotel Paris, but we spent some time finding it, because you have to first enter on a little street from the main streat and only after that you will see the building. The employees from the building were really helpful when we had some little problems with the toilet and the internet, they were always there to help and fixed everything quickly. The only impediment we found was that Balchik is not really developed as a resort, so it doesn't really have beaches, except 2 not so big beaches that are a little bit far away from the location (about 15-20 minutes walking). There is also some beach close to the residence, but it's not right next to the (email hidden)'s across the seafront and there are rocks before the entrance in the water. Per total, we had a great time and Balchik is a beautiful town. If you have a car, you can also visit Albena (it's really close and it has huge beaches), Golden Sands or Varna.
I stayed at Kira's place for a week. The size of the apt is good with a huge bed and a nice small balcony overlooking a super clean swimming pool and the mountains. The location is about a 5 min. walk to a few restaurants, shops and the botanical garden and about a 20 min walk to the town of Balchik and the sea- down and back up a steep hill. The walk wasn't so much fun in the heat, but there is a bus just in front of the apartment complex. You can also take the bus easily to Albena (beach). The apartment itself is okay - good for a week or less. The building and neighbors are very quiet but you can hear music from some other location - very late some nights - but if you're not a light sleeper it's not too bad. Kira herself was fantastic. Super easy to deal with, responded to everything immediately and was even willing to reschedule my trip due to the flood (wasn't necessary). All airbnb hosts should be so good. She also arranged a driver for me from the Varna airport to the property (and later to Burgas) who didn't speak English but was really friendly and helpful and a joy to drive with.
The place is nice. Note: in December it is quite cold there so the aircon is struggling to make it livable even when works around the clock.
