Peaceful & beautiful fully furnished and equipped open-plan loft-style maisonette in Islington in a magnificent art-deco building with 24-hour concierge communal gardens, roof terraces with stunning views, fully equipped gym, steam room and sauna .

The Space

Unique and beautiful third floor (with elevator) open-plan loft-style 710 square foot (66 square metres) maisonette (2 floor mezzanine) with triple-height windows is situated in a magnificent art-deco building called The Beaux Arts (the interiors are based on New York Grand Central Station). If you are a fan of New York loft warehouse spaces, then this is the one for you.

The building has a 24-hour concierge and includes access to communal gardens and roof terraces with stunning views overlooking London's skyline, a fully equipped gym, steam room and sauna available for use! The flat is very also very peaceful and doesn't get any outside noise or noise from neighbours.

Apartment a large reception room with huge comfy leather sofa (if a third person is staying they usually sleep on this, although there is the option of a blow up full-size double bed instead), bathroom (w. bath & shower) modern kitchen (inc. dishwasher, washing machine) and master bedroom with dressing area on a full-size mezzanine level.

Bed is king-size, super comfortable, has a futon mattress on it and a dual-control electric blanket which is great if you have a bad back. if you use it, set it to a few hours of timer or you will roast by the morning!

There is also fast wifi internet access and full access to uk digital tv channels including on-demand and free movies. there's also a great dvd collection and a good library (please don't remove anything from the apartment but you are welcome to enjoy during your stay). there is no gas in the property - everything runs on electricity.

The Beaux Arts Building is steeped in history and has excellent transport links - close to Upper Street, Central London (20mins by tube), Camden Town (3 stops on tube), Highgate / Hampstead Heath (short bus ride), Kings Cross (2 stops on tube), Oxford circus and has good access to the overground from Highbury and Islington which goes as far as Richmond and Clapham Junction the the west and covers the whole of East London.

There are great views and acoustics from Arsenal stadium (should you wish to listen to a match or concert and don't have tickets - go to the roof!). Numerous bars, pubs and restaurants are nearby. If you would like a list of my favourite must-see and do places, don't hesitate to ask!

Transport info:

Upper Holloway 0.3miles (Overland)
Archway 0.7miles (Northern line)
Holloway Road 0.6miles (Piccadilly Line)
Arsenal 0.6miles (Piccadilly Line)
Finsbury Park 0.7miles (Victoria Line)

There's a bus stop at the top of the road with buses that go to Old Street, Shoreditch, Kings Cross, London Bridge etc (number (phone number hidden)).

Very quick to get into Central london, also trendy east london for bars in Dalston. West London is very quick on the overground also. VERY VERY good night bus links if like me, you like staying out late.

(please note that the apartment is furnished but my sister has moved out and i have moved in but new pictures have been posted to reflect this. there is also a new bed now!)

if you want bare minimalism and find helmut newton offensive, this is not the place for you.

Guest Access

whole apartment - however, there are some cupboards and trunks which are clearly not for guests use. the cupboards and drawers in the bedroom for guests are clearly marked. food in the kitchen that is left out and clearly marked for guests to use is available to them also.

Interaction with Guests

i am available if they need anything/have any questions but generally i leave them to get on with things. 99% of the time i do things by email and phone and don't actually meet them due to time and location constraints.

The Neighborhood

diversity, central, near everything, good transport links, including night connections. the Waitrose supermarket and a host of pubs off the beaten track. safe to walk around at night with lots of late-night amenities available. Easily accessible to all airports.

I love my neighbourhood for its diversity, unpretentiousness, closeness to everything, amenities.

Getting around

excellent transport links
highbury and islington 10m bus or 20m walk
holloway road 5m bus or 10m walk
tufnell park or archway 20m walk
upper holloway train 10m walk
buses - (phone number hidden), many others
night buses - good links from all areas of london
piccadilly line to holloway road straight from LHR under 1 hour
train from gatwick to london bridge or victoria then bus from london bridge or victoria line to highbury and islington
stansted get train to tottenham hale and jump on the victoria line
luton - first capital connect to kings cross

Other Things to Note

I tend to need a few days' notice. generally I don't book for more than 2 weeks but please ask - dates might work out! please email before sending through a request. the prices for days, weeks, months are listed on the site and should come up when you plug the dates in.

children are treated as adults and count as an extra person. please read house info - yes it's the whole flat available, the price should show up when you put your dates in and please ensure you put the correct number of people in when enquiring.

also open to house swaps if they are in places i need/want to go! (New York, other areas of America, etc.)

i don't accept bookings from someone with no photo and all guests must be verified. I also ask for copy of passport from all guests staying.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We stayed at Carolina's flat with our 1 year old son for fuor days and we have enjoyed every bit of it. The flat was full of personality, clean and cozy, not to mention the wonderful view of the City's skyline! The big sunny rooftop was (email hidden) to chill out and our son had a lot of fun in the playground situated just in front of the building. The only negative aspect was that we had to pay for our toddler as a grown up person, whereas hotels and Airline companies don't, making our stay a bit overpriced. Carolina was very attentive and when we had a small issue she solved it in a heartbeat!

    Response from Carolina:

apart from the dirty nappy left in the kitchen in a gift bag (which the cleaner thought was something important and did not check to throw away!), Anna and her family were great guests.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for six days in May, and the apartment was perfect for us. The kitchen is really well equipped, so it's easy to save money and cook at home if necessary, which was very useful, but it's also near lots of great pubs/restaurants as well. It's close to several tube stations (about a 15 minute walk) and there are several buses which run regularly right at the end of the street. We found it very easy to use as a base for exploring London, but also enjoyed just relaxing in the apartment, as it is a very cozy and sunny apartment. Carolina was also very easy to get in touch with and very friendly. I would recommend both the host and this apartment to anyone!

A refaire !!

  • I found this place for my mum to stay for a month, mainly we chose it because we live just around the corner. But (email hidden) it is! My mum very much enjoyed her stay there and especially the view over London's skyline is stunning. She slept very well, which is really not a given and said the bed was very comfortable and despite the decor not quite what she's used to, she felt very much at home. The kitchen is well equipped and she enjoyed cooking in it. Unfortunately we're moving, if we weren't she'd be very happy to stay in Carolina's flat again! Carolina (email hidden), very easy to contact and helpful.

  • Loved my stay! Carolina was there when I arrived and was very courteous. she gave me the rundown on everything, and had explained some past issues so I would be up to speed on what I needed to know about her concerns. there were enough towels and clean bedsheets. I was there for 5 days and it was the perfect space for 2 and the location is amazing. Pubs, little restaurants and even an Odeon movie theatre. I had a great time. Thank you Carolina!!!

  • Fabulous apartment, beautiful building and great location. Carolina is a very helpful host and thought of everything we might need for our stay. It made our break all the more pleasurable and I'm looking forward to staying there again when I next visit London.

  • Carolina's flat is lovely, full of character (email hidden)rolina was really helpful throughout, highly recommended.

  • We were staying at the apartment during the whole August 13! Luckily Carolina helped us to split the payment in two parts so we had an opportunity to afford this flat! The apartment is amazing especially for Art lovers. It is smaller than it looks in the pictures, but perfect for a couple. The location is very nice. Picadilly line, lots of bus stations around that can take you to Camden, Trafalgar square, London Bridge, Angel, Oldstreet etc. The whole building is nice with the cute garden and the roof place. In the morning you can listen to Chopin played by the neighbor pianist upstairs. The whole building is about art, music and London life. What I didn't like is that there was some of Carolina's "not for a guest use" stuff in the flat, so I always felt myself little bit uneasily. But overall I recommend this apartment to absolutely everybody. Moreover, If you choose between the apartment in the 1st zone and this one, I highly recommend you to pick Carolina's place, as there are no tourists in the area, so you can feel the spirit of regular London life. Ask Carolina about nice restaurants around, she knows the good ones.

  • This is my first experience with airbnb and I am very satisfied! Carolina was a super great host, flexible, answered all of our messages very fast, gave us a lot of useful tips about the area around the flat, she was also fond of us enjoying our stay.
The flat itself was clean and tidy and it was easy to get to the city centre with buses (basically just outside the flat) running all day and night. We found the interior and decoration in the flat very interesting and different, but in a good way. (I fell in love with your huge windows!) I would defenutley stay in this flat again and I could very much recommend it to others.

    Response from Carolina:

thanks louise, glad you had an enjoyable stay.

  • Carolina's apartment had everything we needed. It was neat and located near a bus stop that was a ten minute ride away from the tube.
The check in process was a nightmare. We had arrived from Madrid and despite having paperwork and ID, the concierge would not let us in. It was quite frustrating. After an hour and numerous phone calls to Carolina's sister as her number was not listed on the airbnb site, he reluctantly let us in.
Other than that, our stay was comfortable and Carolina was very apologetic about the mix up checking in.

    July 2013
    Response from Carolina:

Having discussed the situation with the concierge and seen the paper that Jess showed the concierge, it had no information on it about the flat, just a map. everything needed for check in is in the house manual and my telephone number is listed on the site and in every single email i have ever sent so not sure why this was so difficult. noone else has ever had trouble checking in.
