Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Welcome! The Okra Inn is a beautiful historic home located in the lively Mid City area on the Canal Streetcar line-a quaint direct ride to The French Quarter running 24/7. The Inn is a 6 bedroom double. This listing is for half of the duplex, a private space including 3 bedrooms. The beauty of the building, convenient location, and friendly, attentive, knowledgeable hosts make the Okra Inn the perfect place for your group to fall in love with New Orleans. Check out our reviews: guests love us!

The space
The Okra Inn is a historic, renovated camelback house in the lively Mid City area on the Canal Streetcar line. The Inn features 11 foot ceilings throughout, original pocket doors, beautiful crown molding, a living room, dining room, two full bathrooms, a front porch, back balcony, back patio and our own blend of artsy charm. The house contains a kitchen stocked with cooking basics.

The house overall holds two units, and this listing is for half of the double (duplex). All of the indoor spaces mentioned in this listing are private to your group; you will have keys to your front door and will not share indoor space with anyone. Please note however that there may be another group renting the other half of the house and you may see them on the porches or back patio, and you may hear muffled voices through the walls.

The decor strives to be a cozy, funky version of classic New Orleans, with kitsch alongside original art, elegance alongside a feeling of homey comfort. We want the house to be clean and pleasant, but without a sense that guests should be afraid to touch anything.

We strive to be pet-friendly. However, please send a message before booking if you are planning to bring pets.

Guest access
We want you to feel at home while staying at the Okra Inn. Guests have full, private access to half of the double, which includes a living room, dining room and kitchen, as well as three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The porch and back patio are shared and the back balcony is sectioned off between the two sides of the duplex. The indoor space is private to your group, and you will have keys to the entry door.

Do note this listing is for half of the double (duplex). We ask that guests be conscientious of noise inside the house for the sake of other possible guests and outside the house for the sake of our neighbors. Normal voices and television at a moderate volume are usually not a problem for guests on the other side, but music, loud voices, and shouting can be disruptive. We also have noise monitors installed on the property to comply with the City of New Orleans short term rental hosting requirements.

Other than in an emergency, we will always ask for permission before entering the space while you are there.

Other things to note
RESPECTING OTHER GUESTS
This house is a double and this listing is for half of the double, so it is important that you are respectful of noise levels for the other half of the double and for our neighbors when outside.

We have noise monitors installed on the property to comply with the City of New Orleans short term rental hosting requirements.

RESPECTING NEIGHBORS
We do feel strongly about being respectful neighbors. We ask that guests watch noise levels outside of the home after 11pm. This is especially important in the back patio/balcony area, which is close to neighbor's bedrooms.

Neighborhood highlights

Mid City is the heart of the city! Hop on the streetcar and enjoy a short, quaint ride (for $1.25) to the French Quarter anytime, day or night. As well as the Quarter, Mid-City is a good spot to access the rest of New Orleans' memorable neighborhoods such as Uptown, Treme, and the Lakefront.

Or enjoy all that Mid City has to offer. We are within ONE MILE of:
More than 50(!) locally owned restaurants, including Parkway Bakery and Tavern (probably the world's best po'boy shop)
More than 15 bars (including three music venues)
Five coffee shops
Three grocery stores and two specialty markets
One very large beautiful park (City Park, which is larger than New York's Central Park!)
One art museum (The New Orleans Museum of Art)
One sculpture garden (Sydney and Walda Besthoff Garden at New Orleans Museum of Art- it's beautiful and free!)
One bayou (Bayou St John, the only one in town)
One famous beignet stand (Cafe du Monde in City Park, open 6 AM-midnight)
One famous Italian bakery and gelato shop (Angelo Brocato's - and they bake everything in a little house next to ours, it can smell great!)
One beloved sno-ball stand (Pandora's)
One accessible swimming pool (The Drifter Hotel)
One Hurricane Katrina Memorial
Kayak and paddle boat rentals (On the Bayou and in City Park)
Great examples of New Orleans' famous above-ground cemeteries

Y'all are going to love it!
