Open, sunlit, and cozy, this home is available for solo travelers couples with a couple kids (or not) Please find relaxing escapism in my 1880's old world home located in the middle of Crested Butte's historical downtown. My house sits only 2 blocks off our main Street.
Character abounds not only in this authentic and charming structure , but within it's 2 inhabitants , Kate ( me..a human & long term local~ artist ) and Shackelton the CAT, who will be your hosts during your stay. Presently, Winter 2015, I have a housemate~ Tara is 44 , inhabits a small 3rd room and is not often home due to a heavy work schedule. She is a sweetheart and always with a smile. Please check to be sure she is still here as she may have found her own place by the time you read this. My home is not remodeled and has it's un remodeled qualities and is my wee castle! ~ :)
Whether winter or summer, there is always plenty to do here in the mountains ~ I would revel in connecting you to the beautiful place I live and immersing you into local culture while introducing you to the local color.
There is 1 large bedroom with a king sized bed as well as a couple of cool and comfortable surfaces upon which to lay your head downstairs in the main room. (THE DAY BED AND THE DOOR ROOM WITH THE BLUE LIGHTS)
There is only one bathroom with a tub / shower , which is lovely and light, so we'll be sharing that space, along with the main room and kitchen. (The Master Bedroom is upstairs)
Wifi is free and FAST and there is a large TV used for only movies, so the lack of modern amenities leaves time for outdoor exploration, banter and reading~
My home is only steps away from the main street and the bus stop is across the street, making a loop to the mountain and around town quite easy. Off street, free parking , is on my property , which if snow cooperates, In winter...has a snow cave..another story entirely, which a couple of the photos show.
Light breakfast upon request~ There is always coffee, tea, and half & half.
If the dates you're interested in are not available, please write me a note anyway, as sometimes people have a change of plans, or I can point you to friends who are also now renting rooms via Airbnb.
Another perk , besides no cleaning fee ( Please don't take advantage of that and trash the place :) ~ Is that if you need transportation to a hiking or skiing trail, I have my beloved beater hero truck , Hiroshi , ( He's Japanese and my hero) to haul you and your gear to and from a desired trail head . In a very specific, possible up charge scenario, I could meet you and your comrade(s) w a European picnic at the end of your adventure. Snow, rain , or shine! I also have town bikes here for guests to use, with a security deposit.
For the musicians viewing this, I have a beautiful and in tune up right piano and a Yamaha guitar that I'm still trying to learn about, for you to have your way with~
One last detail that is important to mention is my steep stairs. Though the steps are not narrow, they are not suited for folks with injuries or disabilities.
NOTE~ Please no pets ( Shackelton will torture the hardiest of dogs ) and no smoking inside the house.
I look forward to meeting you and contributing to a most memorable visit to Crested Butte! Kate
When you stay at my place, the room and the main living area is all yours! I can be scarce or present, depending on what you prefer.
Interaction with Guests
We can hang out or I
can almost disappear.
My neighborhood is in the middle of the Crested Butte Historic district and is so easy to just walk 2 blocks to the main street. The whole town is my neighborhood and is filled w vibrant personalities and easy going folk who are nice to visitors.
The free bus stops right out front every 15 minutes. My room is the one next to the motor, so not to worry about that too much.
Other Things to Note
I often have a bottle of wine or a 6 pack waiting for incoming guests.
I request that everyone in the house respectfully keep noise at a minimum, in the event that anyone needs to sleep. I've stayed in an Amsterdam hostel with 16 snoring people, so I can sleep through most anything~ within reason :)
As there is only one bathroom, please be quick, or if you need time in the bath or with the Sunday times , please ask others if they have need of the facilities first.
I'll know more as things are revealed !!
OK, so you can stay at the Elevation or the Grand Lodge up on the mountain when you're in Crested Butte. And those are both good options, but I gotta say that staying with Kate down in town is what you want to do instead. Kate's hospitality made me feel incredibly warm. Loved our chats at her kitchen table and getting to meet some of her friends. I also had some great private time in the room. The bed is very comfy. And of course you're only a few blocks away from all the great restaurants and shops that town has to offer. I'll definitely be staying at Kate's place again when I return.
Staying with Kate was a fantastic experience! Her home is cozy, clean and comfortable, as was the room we stayed in (which has an amazingly comfy bed!). Kate was incredibly welcoming and it was wonderful to get to know her and also Crested Butte through her eyes. Her home is two blocks off the main street, so in perfect walking distance to everything that Crested Butte has to offer. We will definitely be going back to stay with her and would recommend Kate to anyone!
Fantastic, eclectic little mining cottage in the middle of Crested Butte. We had a wonderful time hanging out with Kate and Shackleton. Hoping to return asap!
I feel like my stay in Crested Butte, with a long time local as cool as Kate, has connected with me in a way that my imagination keeps finding it self deeply wrapped in the history of such a paradise. It was the best of my many stays in CB.
It also helps that I timed my trip with the most beautiful time of year...If you don't ski I mean. But Kate is so cool it would be fun anytime of year!
Kate was wonderful! Her home is so charming and in the perfect location right off of the main street. She has an outgoing and warm personality that made us feel immediately comfortable and welcomed. We loved everything about our stay.
Kate was an absolute gem of a person, artist and host! She made me feel so welcome in her home and her home-town. Kate's place is so much fun, with creative flairs throughout and it feels super cozy. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in and she has plenty of plush pillows that would put the nicest hotels to shame. And getting to know Kate was a huge bonus on top of it all. I will absolutely be back and look forward to it.
Kate's place was situated right in the middle of crested butte and was very convenient. The interior was inviting and comfortable, equally matched by Kate's personality. She clearly took pride in welcoming guests and making their stay painless. Though my stay was brief I always felt secure, and well looked after.
Having grown up the youngest of 4 and having lived with room mates my entire adult life, I have maintained a solidly flexible nature, which may have been there to begin with? I enjoy surrounding myself with people , animals, and the outdoors. I love almost any dog who crosses my path and fancy myself a bit of a Dr Doolittle. The creative thread runs rampant in these veins which becomes quite evident in my art.
If I had to ask friends to write this piece,(which I'm doing right NOW) I suppose they'd say I am easy going and entertaining.
I try to be helpful and to connect people with people and with what they seek.
