About this listing
Open, sunlit, and cozy, this home is available for solo travelers couples with a couple kids (or not) Please find relaxing escapism in my 1880's old world home located in the middle of Crested Butte's historical downtown. My house sits only 2 blocks off of our main Street.
Character abounds not only in this authentic and charming structure , but within it's 2 inhabitants , Kate ( me..a human & long term local~ artist~ social beast ) and Shackelton the CAT, who will be your hosts during your stay. My home is not remodeled and has it's un remodeled qualities and is my wee castle! ~ :)
Whether winter or summer, there is always plenty to do here in the mountains ~ I would revel in connecting you to the beautiful place I live and immersing you into local culture while introducing you to the local color.
There is 1 large bedroom with a king sized bed as well as a couple of cool and comfortable surfaces upon which to lay your head downstairs in the main room. (THE DAY BED AND THE DOOR ROOM WITH THE BLUE LIGHTS) ***** I have another smaller room w a full sized bed. If you have more in your party, that room is $80, which I prefer to rent in attachment with guest(s) who you know, as my place is pretty small. If I have other inquiries, I'll always ask the main room renters if it's ok to have an extra traveler while they're here. ~ It'd be more like a real B&B w multiple people about~
There is only one bathroom with a tub / shower , which is lovely and light, so we'll be sharing that space, along with the main room and kitchen. (The Master Bedroom is upstairs)
Wifi is free and FAST and there is a large TV used for only movies, so the lack of modern amenities leaves time for outdoor exploration, banter and reading~
My home is only steps away from the main street and the bus stop is across the street, making a loop to the mountain and around town quite easy. Off street, free parking , is on my property , which if snow cooperates, In winter...has a snow cave..another story entirely, which a couple of the photos show.
Light breakfast upon request~ There is always coffee, tea, and half & half.
If the dates you're interested in are not available, please write me a note anyway, as sometimes people have a change of plans, or I can point you to friends who are also now renting rooms via Airbnb.
Another perk , besides no cleaning fee ~ Is that if you need transportation to a hiking or skiing trail, I have my beloved beater hero truck , Hiroshi , ( He's Japanese and my hero) to haul you and your gear to and from a desired trail head . In a very specific, possible up charge scenario, I could meet you and your comrade(s) w a European picnic at the end of your adventure. Snow, rain , or shine! I also have town bikes here for your use to pedal around town.
For the musicians viewing this, I have a beautiful and in tune up right piano and a Yamaha guitar that I'm still trying to learn about, for you to have your way with~
One last detail that is important to mention is my steep stairs. Though the steps are not narrow, they are not suited for folks with injuries or disabilities.
NOTE~ Please no pets ( Shackelton will torture the hardiest of dogs ) and no smoking inside the house.
I look forward to meeting you and contributing to a most memorable visit to Crested Butte! Kate
When you stay at my place, the room and the main living area is all yours! I can be scarce or present, depending on what you prefer.
Interaction with Guests
We can hang out or I
can almost disappear.
My neighborhood is in the middle of the Crested Butte Historic district and is so easy to just walk 2 blocks to the main street. The whole town is my neighborhood and is filled w vibrant personalities and easy going folk who are nice to visitors.
The free bus stops right out front every 15 minutes. My room is the one next to the motor, so not to worry about that too much.
Other Things to Note
I often have a bottle of wine or a 6 pack waiting for incoming guests.
I request that everyone in the house respectfully keep noise at a minimum, in the event that anyone needs to sleep. I've stayed in an Amsterdam hostel with 16 snoring people, so I can sleep through most anything~ within reason :)
As there is only one bathroom, please be quick, or if you need time in the bath or with the Sunday times , please ask others if they have need of the facilities first.
I'll know more as things are revealed !!
The 'roo'm on the right is a grandma couch transformed into a private, cozy bed created with door walls, that suits kids to young adults , who are NOT tall. It's also great for movie viewing whether for one person or a couple!
I could go on and on about how amazing of an experience I had at Kate's place, but I'm only allowed 500 words! I traveled alone and was looking for a place to stay so I could do some exploring of the area around CB. Not only did I get an extremely comfy bed (I never wanted to get out), but Kate showed me the best hospitality -- better than any 5-star hotels I've ever stayed in! Kate's historic house is darling and one of a kind. Her cat, Shackelton, is a sweetheart, who will cuddle with you at night, or leave you alone if you aren't the biggest cat lover. If I had to describe Kate's space, it would be comfortable and enchanting. There are lots of pillows and blankets around to snuggle up with if you're looking for rest and relaxation. And Kate lives literally steps away from downtown CB, so if you're looking to be close to coffee, shops, restaurants, outdoor rentals, etc., you're in the perfect spot!
My experience at Kate's was one for the books, for sure! Not only did I stay in a safe and comfortable house, but I also made a friend in the process. Kate is a local and knows almost everyone in town. She invited me out with her friends and took me to some of the best spots in CB. These were places that I would not have known about unless I was taken around by my host. My trip to CB was only going to be 3 days and 2 nights, but I ended up staying another night and day because I was having such a great time. If my schedule allowed, I would have stayed another 3 days!
Not only do I recommend Kate's place for an Airbnb stay, but I tell my friends, my family, and anyone else who is going out to CO, to go to CB and stay with Kate. I also plan on traveling back to CB and staying with Kate again in the near future. You will not be disappointed!!
We had such an amazing time at Kate's lovely, artistic and whimsical home. The location is INCREDIBLE!!!! Nothing could be better. Shuttle right outside her door to go up to the mountain. The moment we walked in, we were at peace. She even had a bottle of wine on the table as a welcome gift! She was so helpful from the first contact. I had questions about things to do, and she even gave me some fantastic recommendations for hikes, restaurants. She welcomed us, and we instantly became friends. We cannot wait to come back for another visit. Thank you for everything Kate, you made our weekend away celebrating our 7 year anniversary more than we could ever imagine!!!!
Kate & Shackelton were excellent hosts! The directions were easy to follow and the house was just as described. It is a super short walk to Elk Street and we enjoyed all that Crested Butte had to offer. Kate left us notes and recommendations for good eats in town. The King bed was wonderful as stated by many other guests, true to form. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will definitely stay with Kate if/when we are back in CB.
Kate was awesome - we were only in town for a short pd. of time but it was great to stay w/ Kate and to experience the Butte from a local's perspective. House and room were great - funky, creative, and accommodating at the same time. We were also appreciative of Kate's energy and hospitality - after a long day of biking the trails around Crested Butte, we arrived and were quickly invited for Bloody Mary's at one of the local watering holes. If you are in the area, we would recommend staying with Kate (and Shackleton)! Thanks again Kate!
Kate was a wonder host for my first Airbnb experience! My wife Maria and I spent three days at Kate's place in Crested Butte. I came across Kate's Airbnb posting after doing a google search for accommodations in town in my price range, and decided to take the Airbnb plunge. It worked out great! Kate's communication was great from the get-go. I was in touch with her after booking, prior to arriving, and throughout our stay. Kate is a very personable and charming host, and made use feel very welcome at her home. Communication was great throughout the whole process - Kate always promptly responded to our calls and texts. Kate was flexible as to our coming and going, which was important to us, since we didn't have set schedules. I'm glad I got to meet Kate, who is a wonderful artist - ask her to show you her illustrations. The pictures accurately reflect Kate's home, which is one of the original homes in town, dating to the l890's, which Kate has tastefully decorated. I've often walked around places I've visited and wondered what the historic homes are like - it was great to get to stay in one of the original CB home, and not in some chain hotel. Kate's place is two blocks away from the main drag - close enough that you can walk to all of the action, but far enough away to not hear all of the action when you are trying to sleep. There aren't many places to stay in the historic part of CB, which was a big plus.
Do yourself a favor and stay with Kate the next time you are in Crested Butte!
Kate was a wonderful host and we had a beautiful stay in crested butte staying at her home. The house itself is beautiful-superbly decorated, super comfy-and the bedroom was perfect! She helped us figure out some great hiking trails and even took us out for coffee at the morning :) the location of the house is prime too, as they aren't very many listings within downtown created butte. Thanks for a beautiful weekend Kate!
Kate was very friendly and accommodating. She left out the makings for great coffee (we're early risers) and breakfast. The room and bed were very comfortable. Be aware that the stairs are very steep and the one bathroom is on the lower level. Perhaps just a concern for more mature guests. This location was prime for visiting all the wonderful quirky places to visit in lovely Crested Butte. We had a friend join us in Crested Butte so she stayed in the extra bedroom.
About the Host, Kate
Having grown up the youngest of 4 and having lived with room mates my entire adult life, I have maintained a solidly flexible nature, which may have been there to begin with? I enjoy surrounding myself with people , animals, and the outdoors. I love almost any dog who crosses my path and fancy myself a bit of a Dr Doolittle. The creative thread runs rampant in these veins which becomes quite evident in my art.
If I had to ask friends to write this piece,(which I'm doing right NOW) I suppose they'd say I am easy going and entertaining.
I try to be helpful and to connect people with people and with what they seek.
