Aloha and Welcome to Hale HaHa and the Beautiful Garden Island of Kaua’i.
Although we have posted similar information elsewhere in Hale Ha HA, some information bears repeating. You are staying in a residential neighborhood. We want your visit to be safe and enjoyable for both you and your neighbors.
(website hidden) good neighbors:
a.Keep noise to a minimum, especially before 8:00 am and after 10:00 pm.
And, please do not use remote door lock. The beeps disturbs our neighbors. Please be considerate.
b.Turn off outdoor lights at night whenever possible. We enjoy our dark nights when the stars are bright and beautiful. And, of equal importance, some of our wildlife can become disoriented at night if lights are too bright.
c.We have a non-smoking ordinance in Hawaii. There is no smoking within 20 feet of all public buildings and there is no smoking inside Hale HaHA..
d.Whenever possible, please recycle. If you will keep cardboard, newspapers and glass separate it can go to our transfer stations for recycling. Also deposit bottles and cans we donate to help others. As in other communities, our landfill is stressed to the limit. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated for generations to come.
e. LOCK YOUR CAR DOOR MANUALLY ! The beeps disturb our neighbors.
2.Beach Safety: Be mindful of the surf. Our shorelines face thousands of miles of open ocean. Northern winter storms and southern summer storms can bring us extremely dangerous surf conditions. NEVER turn your back on the ocean – summer or winter. Rogue waves can appear even in calm surf conditions. You can check ocean (email hidden)/ocean_report. There are lifeguards at Haena Beach Park, Hanalei Pavilion, Lydgate, Poipu Beach Park, Salt Pond and Kekaha. Take a flashlight at night, many holes go unfilled.
3.9-1-1: In case of fire or medical emergency, call 9-1-1. The address and phone number of your accommodation has been posted on the inside of the front door, along with the Non-Conforming Use Certificate or vacation rental Registration Number 5109. For non-emergency assistance, please call (phone number hidden). This will connect you to Police Dispatch. The phone number for Wilcox Hospital in Lihue is (phone number hidden).Weather: We do experience flash flooding during periods of heavy rain. If you must drive during this kind of weather, drive with extreme caution. Heavy rain can cause the road out of Hanalei to close for undetermined periods of time. For up-to-date Traffic and Weather information, please call (phone number hidden).Disaster Emergencies: On the first work day of each month at 11:45 am, our Civil Defense sirens are tested. However, if you hear these sirens at any other time, please tune to AM radio station KQNG (“KONG”) at AM 570 for up-to-the-minute reports and directions. You can also check the front of the Kaua’i phone book for emergency, disaster, evacuation and shelter information.
6.Security: Be cautious with your personal belongings. It’s always best to keep your valuables nearby. Lock your car wherever you stop and park.
7.Island driving etiquette:
a.Please honor the posted speed limits. Frequently check your rear view mirror. If there are cars
stacking up behind you, pull completely off to the side of the road and let them pass. This can also be helpful when driving at night as our dark roads can be confusing. The cars following you likely know where they are going and can help light the way for you.
b.If you are lost, remember that this is a small island and you can’t get really lost. Keep driving until you find a safe place to pull over and turn around. If you can head downhill, you'll get to the ocean within a few miles. NEVER make a U-turn on the highway.
c.When navigating the one-lane bridges, cross the bridges caravan style. It’s usually appropriate
for 5 or 6 cars to cross at a time. A simple rule of thumb is: drain the lane; if you arrive late – wait.
d.When parking at the beaches and parks , be sure to park fully off the street, in assigned or clearly marked parking spaces. Never leave valuables in your car and make sure it’s locked.
e.If you want to stop and enjoy the scenery, please pull completely off to the side of the road.
Most of all, enjoy your visit to our beautiful island! Aloha, Susan & Jodie

Hale Ha Ha was a delightful place - fully equipped for fun by kids and adults alike. A short walk to the beach and the town, a beautiful garden on the premises, and a wonderful home - perfect!
This house has it all. Definitely the best value for your money on the northshore. The house felt homey and familiar, the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. This lovely house is located just two blocks from the beach and also about a 5 minute walk into town. The local farmer's market is also just across the street so all in all the house is quite centrally located. We stayed in the Mountain Studio which is about as comfortable as it can get. The bed is super soft, all the kitchen appliances are modern and up to date. There is an outside shower to wash off sand and a ping pong table downstairs! Tons of beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, sunblock and anything else you might want for a day at the beach. Susan was very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again for sure!
The only part that I found somewhat confusing initially was the set up of the house. There is one section of the house that is three bedrooms and a livingroom/kitchen while the other section of the house is 2 studios. Apparently the house can be rented as a whole (5 bedrooms) or the studios separately.....but when you rent the studios, you are not renting access to the rest of the house.
Super great place to stay. The house was fully setup with everything you'd need and in hindsight we would've brought less then half of what we did bring. Perfect place for a family with all the amenities.
Susan was also great giving us tons of local info. and I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to visit Kauai. I hope to be there every year in the future.
Very peaceful & convenient location, a cpl blocks from Hanalei Bay beach & shops. Susan is a very gracious hostess. House is a great deal for a family or several couples.
